  1. I’ve decided to not watch today. Instead I will surround myself with ocean water, bikinis and sandcastles.

  6. We all should have know that they Tigers were not as good as the one that played at a 100 win pace the first half. Weaknesses have been exposed and they are going through a slump. All the teams trying to catch them have been through this too. The Indians went through a 0-10 stretch, the Twins 3-15, the Royals went 1-9. The Tigers still have a 7-game lead and are still strong favorites to win the division over teams with similar warts. I hope they add some good pieces even if it's only relievers.

  7. 60 - 46 is a bloody good record. It will correct back. We’re winning this division ladies and gentlemen. Hang tough.

  10. Current slump, yes. Previous 140 games, this team was so balanced they didn’t have a losing streak greater than 3 games and had the best record in baseball. When basically every hitter and pitcher is slumping at once, it will look bad. The rotation overall is solid. The hitters as a whole are solid. The base running has been exceptional (can’t tell in this slump as they aren’t on base) The bullpen has needed swing and miss all season (and last). 140 games says a lot more about who they are than the last 11. They need a breakout, to stop pressing, and get back to working counts on offense, and pitchers not letting innings blow up. They still need bullpen help (and yes, Bednar may have prevented Tommy K from being blown up immediately after it happened before.

  23. We have to face the reality that his supporters know what he is and just don't care because he serves their purpose of being against stuff they don't like. David Brooks, now a WaPo refugee at the Atlantic, wrote a piece about the fact that American is now a culture without standards of any kind. We don't care about right or wrong or abstract morality or idealizations of good and evil - everything is transactional. There are no norms that anyone cares about violating. And if Trump gives Trumpers what they want, they could care less what kind of Ogre he may be. The only thing that can put Trumpers off Trump is that they stop seeing him as on their side. which is not the same thing as him being good or evil at all. There is some potential for that happening over the Epstein stuff but probably nowhere near enough to make a significant political difference.

  24. So they would need to designate Baez for assignment and basically be done with him. And you want them to keep a guy who can't hit and isn't as good on defense? Sweeney has no future in the big leagues other than possibly a utility guy or the guy who plays in AAA and gets called up when injuries happen.

  25. I agree, I don't think he'll be forced to deal with the consequences for his actions. Best case scenario is more within his base finally figure out who he truly is rather than continuously falling for whatever false imagery they have about him.

  26. Yes, 6-5 listed 240. Similar to Judge. A kid that young and you know will still grow. He could put up a similar career path as Judge. Maybe better. I could say to draft guys like that but this guy is a once in a decade( at least) type. Can't believe he didn't go #1.

  27. There are a half dozen stats from that game where no other player in history can check them all off for their career. He checked them all in one game! My vote for best game by rookie ever. Maybe best game for a player ever. As for best rookie seasons there are a few that stand out - like Williams, Pujols, DiMaggio, McGwire, Judge, Alonso, FRobby, Walt Dropo, Fred Lynn (and others).....and can't forget Fidrych and Fernando. Kurtz is on pace for a similar year. Could get to 40 HR (and had 16 this year in the minors). He has the look of a stud.

  28. Two more promotions to Toledo without corresponding moves, meaning there are likely two more pitchers hurt that haven't been officially logged on the IL. They are four over the roster limit right now, so there are four players unavailable that we don't know about... which is why the Hartlieb's and Jackson's are coming up.

  29. Other than a 13 at-bat stop at AA last season, Kurtz' ops has never been below 1.000. That includes this season. Dude is a stud Nick Kurtz College, Fall & Minor Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com https://share.google/BODDMh8TLFDNonwYF

  30. Here’s the run differential in the past 13 games, which adds up to minus 56 L4 L9 L8 L4 L2 L3 W1 L3 L3 L5 L7 L4 L5 You could have gifted the Tigers 3 free runs each game and they’d still only have gone 2-8 with 3 ties.

  31. This is non competitive slop. I’m done saying they are better than this. There’s something fundamentally wrong when everyone loses their ability to produce at the same time.

  33. At least this Tiger team and season will be talked about for a long time but for all the wrong reasons. Is there a betting line for when they lose the division lead? Has Harris figured out yet you can't build a WS contender by other teams DFAs yet?

  34. The guys who overperformed last year and came back from injuries have underperformed. The guys who overperformed earlier this year have stopped performing. The pitching doesn’t even deserve to be called “erratic,“ it’s just plain bad. I’m not sure bouncing back to mediocrity is even possible now. None of this makes much sense. It just seems unreal.

  35. I think Nick Kurtz produced more offense last night than the entire Tigers team has in the 9 games since the All Star break.

  38. Is it? Small sample size and I think circumstances factored in. No college bats this year worthy of our first pick. And with Clark and McGonigle 1-2 in Law’s recent prospect rankings, seems those choices are working out.

  39. I don’t think it is, nor anyone else here likely. But their flaws are being exposed right now with no aspect of their game working. As inexplicable as last season’s finish/this year’s start was, so is the current tailspin. This is not an “all in” roster. Make moves that will help this season and beyond, trading from organizational depth—no rentals, unless the price tag is so low it’s hard to say no.
