I don't get nearly as emotional about games as I did even a few years ago, but tonight's game has been demoralizing.4 points

Murrow was right, —“This instrument can teach, it can illuminate, yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise, it is nothing but wires and lights in a box” The other part of that RTNDA speech... if the medium is driven only by profit and comfort, it will not inform citizens enough to sustain democracy. This is where we are now. Deregulate the media. When the Fairness Doctrine died...it became anarchy3 points

Up until the last month or so, I think the Tigers have performed above their talent level during Hinch's tenure. It's been an awful stretch, but I think firing him would be a knee jerk reaction and a mistake.3 points

Somehow me betting on Cleveland to win didn’t guarantee a Detroit victory last night. First bet I’ve won in months. I’ve doubled down and put everything on Cleveland again. If it doesn’t work, then there’s foul play afoot.2 points

Yeah, this is where I'm at. To be fair, I kind of thought the lack of splash at the deadline wouldn't impact their chances at making postseason. Whether or not it lessened their potential postseason success was harder to guess, as it's a bit of a crapshoot anyways. I never ruled out the Tigers having an extended streak of bad play, but didn't think it would coincide with either Cleveland or KC playing out of their minds. I mean the odds of both occurring were infinitesimal, literally. Having said that, some of the takes on here are over the top as well. For example, the "they don't care / are not trying" thing is tired. Often times it can be due to trying too hard, which doesn't work so well in baseball. I think anyone who's actually been "in the arena" with any type of team( whether in sports or business) knows it's not that simple. With regard to the decision makers and leaders, sometimes they're just wrong. Good ones admit it, reflect and adjust. If they don't, they will indeed lose their position (which will at least satisfy the bloodlust of the mob 😁). Going forward, a few more proven bats are a must, as well as more SP depth. It's foolhardy to think that you don't need 8 quality SP in this day and age.2 points

We're going to go out and find some former members and offer them a 1 day contract to do a game thread and then retire a MTS member.2 points

I think the 19 Ks is a sign the Tigers are pressing. I think Skubal trying the trick play is a sign the Tigers are pressing. I think Tork slamming his bat after his final K is a sign the Tigers are pressing. And I guess who can blame them. Time to re-set and win a darn game.2 points

I hope to never have Chlamydia but I can’t imagine its worse than the last 2 weeks as a Tiger fan.2 points

I think that better change soon or they are going to feel it in ticket sales. This season could lose them a bunch of casual fans.2 points

They are tied for first place over 157 games. They should certainly contend next year. They should be adding major league talent, not subtracting their best player.2 points

Right before they came back from commercial before the final half inning they showed the final out in ‘87 against Toronto. I actually got choked up. I was in high school. I started to think about how I was now (in 2006) married with 2 kids and a job and a house…. 19 years can be a small amount of years, like 2006 to now feels, or pretty much a lifetime, as 87 to 06 felt to me then.1 point

If they could have won one game over the last seven they would be in a much better position and now you want 2 wins ! Quite Bold of you sir.1 point

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise teams at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good teams, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild teams who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave teams, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my Tigers, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.1 point

No idea if there is legitimate news on this or someone just thought of it and put it on reddit, but there is a reddit post indicating that ABC could pull SEC football from Sinclear and Nexstar in response to them preempting Kimmel. One of the comments: "So, how did the American Revolution of 2025 start? A podcaster was killed in Utah and then ABC threatened not to air college football in the south." As I laughed at that, my next thought was 150 years from now, some teacher explaining that a 2nd civil war started over football and some dumbass kid raising his hand to say it really wasn't about football itself, but rather states rights to be able to watch football'1 point

Getting ahead of this will involve structures and norms that some people won't like. We need those structures.1 point

Glass half full: The Tigers now sit in the final WC spot, a game up on Houston with the tie breaker. They're going to make the playoffs and turn this around. Greene's home run signaled his turn around. It's going to happen!1 point

My MIL had a stroke and had definite memory issues. We took care of her for several years. Apparently no dementia per the medicos. I never said what I was diagnosing Trump with, but the leader of the free world is suffering definitively from a decomposition of his mental faculties combined with a power trip and his innate narcissism and sociopathy. Also to paraphrase his first Sec State Rex Tillerson, Trump lacks intellectual curiosity beyond that of a boy playing with matches.1 point

One of the Cleveland announcers, postgame, called Skubal’s snap over Tork’s head, “asinine.” I couldn’t agree more. I think that and Kwan’s leadoff bunt were the two most critical points of the game.1 point

At the beginning of the season most people were happy with the Tigers pitching staff. They were in good shape with plenty of quality reserves in Toledo. Now half of them are on IL and other half can't find the strike zone. This is why you can't have enough good pitchers.1 point

I think trading Skubal would mean throwing away the season. Any team picking up Skubal for one year is going to be all in, so they won't be giving the Tigers major league players. It would be a package of prospects.1 point

It hasnt been the problem of the pitchers. It's our inability to score any runs consistently.1 point

If ABC, on their own accord decided to suspend Jimmy Kimmel it's not a free speech violation. Your employer has a right to make that decidsion But when the FCC pressures ABC to suspend someone, then it IS a free speech violation. Pretty thick hair to split there. Gilbert Gottfried getting fired by Aflac after offensive comments post 2011 earthquake is not a violation. Obama never pressured Aflac to do it. Hey, we're going to hire a comedian known for his vulgar humor - nothing could go wrong there, huh?1 point

My thing is to do my utmost to leave the emotions in the game itself... especially when they lose. I have a distinct memory a handful of years ago, after yet another Lions loss, of thinking: "Wait, if the Lions had won... would I be super giddy excited and feel like my whole week was made? No? Then why am I letting a lose make me ultra grumpy and pissed off and taking it out on my family?" So now I let myself feel whatever emotion I want during the game, but then when the game is over I remind myself that a loss means nothing real and tangible to my life.1 point

Missed calls have been happening, in all of sports, for years. Every sport. The thing that really, really bothers me is the possibility of cheating being done because of the "legal" gambling. Every time a call is missed, or a questionable call is made, it makes me wonder, in the back of my mind, whether there's cheating going on.1 point

Some of it can be explained as emotions in the moment. I don't usually post much during the game, but I'm certainly shouted stuff at my TV as I'm sure we all have. I've always hijacked the Las Vegas catchphrase: "What's said during the game stays as 'during the game.'" That said, it is possible to go a little too far in a gameday thread.1 point
