I've got waaaay too much time invested this season so I'll see it through to the end. I'm not a fair weather fan but it doesn't mean I can't be disappointed in their play or choices made by management. I'm still hopeful and it ain't over until it over! You are 100% correct. Their record at the end of the season was right about where we put them at. Maybe I expected too much after such a great first half. The let down comes from sub .500 baseball they've been playing and not just the lack of quality players at the deadline but the less than quality players they did add to the team. It was almost like they sunk the team on purpose.4 points

I think the chances of the Tigers beating Cleveland are at least 50/50. I wanted the Tigers to win the division because that's the goal at the beginning of each season, not because I think home field will make much difference in this series. Home field is more enjoyable to watch as a fan, because I feel like I'm cheering along with 40,000 others instead of against them, but the players tune that out. The main reason I want the Tigers to beat Cleveland is because it is rare if ever that a chance for me to see Tigers play playoff baseball presents itself so perfectly. The ALDS would start in Seattle, it would be on a weekend, and my wife is out of the country this week so I'm alone by myself. As soon as the Tigers eliminate Cleveland I'd have a little road trip quickly arranged for Saturday morning to Sunday night.3 points

Sandy Hook impacted me more than any other political event except 9/11.3 points

Sandy Hook was a pivotal moment for me when it comes to political leanings. When the GOP came out and was like "no... we're not having any discussions" I knew then they were crazy people. If the knowledge of toddlers being nearly sawed in half with a gun doesn't move a person to start having a conversation on what can be done then there is no point. Obviously something is missing from their soul. I wanted away from those people and they've shown since they are as crazy as I thought.3 points

To most of us here gun control does not equal gun a ban. You keep harping on cars. Nobody wants to ban cars, and I would guess that 99% of those on this board are not in favor of banning firearms. And I would guess nearly 90% or more of the general population feels the same way. If you want to drive you need a license and if you get caught there is a price to pay. The same with traffic laws. If you own a car, most states require some sort of licensing and registration. Not to mention vehicle inspections and so on. Why do you oppose the same for firearms. If you want to own a gun you need to pass a stringent test showing 1) you are familiar with the rules and regulations, 2) you are competent enough to use the tool properly. Members of the armed forces, police forces require such training so why just pass out guns to every Tom, **** and Archie? That's all most of us are talking about RESPONSIBILITY. You're not handing your car keys to a 12 year old or to your 80 something relative who may not be competent any more to drive. So why allow that 12 year old or any relative who shows signs of mental distress to handle a weapon. All most of us want here is some accountability. And common sense. That said there are too many assholes on the road who ignore speed limits and other auto safety issues who don't deserve to get behind the wheel. I'm all for taking both their guns and vehicles away from them.3 points

I see the season as a whole as pretty much what I expected. The end was was very frustrating and disappointing and nothing to celebrate, but they played way over their heads in the first half. If someone told me at the beginning of the season that they would win 87 games and get a wild card. I would have been satisfied.3 points

A morally bankrupt individual making an intellectually bankrupt comparison between guns and cars? Must be another day in America. And this whole idea of "Charlie was a Christian gentleman just trying to create honest dialogue" crap that people (not just you) have been trying to snow the rest of us with is just eye-rolling nonsense. His whole "prove me wrong" format was designed not to genuinely engage with differing viewpoints, but to create gotcha moments that would resonate on social media. He was was, after all, a social media influencer first and foremost. I promise you never once did he ever post any video of him getting smoked in a debate by anyone. The whole thing was an intellectually dishonest exercise from the word "go".3 points

I am not saying the Tigers threw the game yesterday, but by every single metric except "recent success against," Cleveland is a much easier opponent than New York.2 points

Canada has expansive wilderness and hunting and people own guns. They just don’t own handguns and automatic weapons and their homicide rate is significantly lower.2 points

I'm not sure he thinks they are the guys to build around. Not to relitigate the trade deadline stuff but I'm not surprised if he had a "Let's see what we can get from this group but I'm not making special plans for them" attitude. He go the job 3 years ago. They made the playoffs in 2 of the 3 full seasons he was GM.2 points

and that's the other bait and switch we always get from guys like Kirk: "Responsible guns controls would be OK" but then every conceivable measure of any kind is reflexively opposed. So those are not honest positions, they are just rhetorical fig leaves.2 points

Tigers play at 1:08pm and the Red Sox-Yankees play at 6:08pm. If Tigers-Guardians goes past 4pm, probably all markets except for Cleveland and Detroit will switch to airing a 2-hour Red Sox-Yankees pre-game show.2 points

At this point, I'm not as fixated on the playoff result. These are going to be high leverage low scoring games. The teams that makes more contact is probably going to win...that's probably Cleveland. I want to see what lessons they learn moving forward. They need more contact guys offensively and fewer contact guys on the staff.2 points

With the collapse the TIgers had along with how bad they have been playing I don't see anything to celebrate. Even though they made the playoffs I still see this season as a huge letdown.2 points

Shameless plug... With the 2025 regular season complete, this quiz has been fully updated. There have now been 161 players who have appeared in at least one game with the Tigers in the 2020s...how many can you remember? For your convenience, other decades... 2010s 2000s 1990s 1980s 1970s 1960s 1950s2 points

you know what - If the 2A fans want to push that analogy, my answer is I'd be happy as a clam if we had just as many rules and safety regs on guns, ammo, and gun owners as we have on cars, motor fuel, drivers, and drivers' licenses.2 points

I wasn't going to say anything but all of these whole alcohol celebrations bother me, as a non-drinker. A lot of kids watch these guys play and look up to them. It went from a celebration of popping champagne to a piss water beer explosion. Not sending a very good message...2 points

A part of me just wants this season to get over and done with so I can invest my time in worrying about things I can actually affect like the state of the world and the limitations of human mortality. <ducks>2 points

If the Tigers don’t make it to the World Series I would rather see a team like Cleveland or Milwaukee from “flyover” territory beat the big money teams that assemble teams recruited like mercenary armies sent to invade small countries.1 point

I think if you live a wild area, it's perfectly reasonable to be armed. I stayed with friend recently that has black bear and wolves moving on his driveway at night. And sure nature is just all cuddly all the time (not). I don't expect people to have to take their chances with a bear guarding cubs or a male alpha predator in a rutting craze. And I'd gladly see a lot more hunting of the XS deer population that prevents me from growing anything in a garden in my neighbor hood. So I'm not against guns for utilitarian purposes. But very few people have any legitimate need for a handgun, and no-one needs an assault weapon. If guns are to be present, every gun and every owner needs to be registered and the ballistics of every weapon need be filed before the weapon is sold and periodically re-verified.1 point

Of course I want them to win, but realistically don't think they have a chance. The Indians are the more talented team this season and I suspect are in their heads. At this point I have more confidence in Gavin Williams shutting us down than Skubal dominating the Indians. Im looking ahead to next season. I’ve been a bit of a Harris apologist, but that will end after this offseason if he doesn’t recognize that the Greene/Tork/Carp trifecta should be our 3rd-5th best hitters on the team. Maybe McGonigle and Clark will eventually fill in as our two best hitters, but we need two consistently better offensive players next season, acquired from outside the org. Also, let’s avoid the starting pitcher lottery picks and acquire an established #2, who can help us next season and serve as protection for a Skubal exodus.1 point

Cade said he has talked to Melo a bit about working out with him. They scheduled a few, but it ended up not working out but he looks forward to doing that. Career over.1 point

Generally speaking, I know i can walk in now and get a gun, beyond any waiting period. I have no record and no flags, etc. I'm just a normal dude with some cash. That should not be the case. The last time I fired a gun was 2019 in Texas when I asked my brother in law to take me to a range. That might have been the only time I fired a handgun other than a .38 in TN out in the woods. I've shot rifles here and there with scouts and again with family in the woods. I'm not a gun person. I don't have a problem for the most part with people who are. When I went to the range I saw the appeal. Like going to a driving range. Nothing wrong with that. But there should be restrictions on who, when, and what kind of guns we can get.1 point

If it is, I think it is open and shut for the first series. Out: Paddack, Rainey, Sewald In: Horn1 point

Not just the from media, but from Baseball itself. Three of the series feature Big Six teams (Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers). All three of those are accorded full three-hour slots during times of day people are most likely to watch. One series contain teams from flyover country. That series is accorded only a two-hour slot, which means they anticipate viewers flipping from that to watch the Cubs when that one starts. Now try to tell me they don't play favorites.1 point

Again, why are we comparing something that’s soul purpose is to kill, with something that is for basic economic needs? People own these two things for different reasons, making this an intellectually dishonest argument.1 point

I remember in 2006, we blew the division on the last weekend. It forced us to play the Yankees in a short series. That was the best thing that could happen, in hindsight.1 point

I also realize that Charlie Kirk isn't someone posters here would listen to. I didn't pay much attention to him either. However, he did a great job of creating dialog with people and especially people with different views. That was the whole point of his organization. We need more people talking and less political violence in this country.1 point
