Am back home in Vancouver. I tell ya, even before this loss, Mariners fans have a serious case of expecting impending doom, given the team’s history of failures notably in the 116-win year. They were so excited today, no trash talking at all (except for one guy who told me to “go s*ck Eminem’s c*ck" and whose appalled friends immediately shushed him), and after the final out many just sat there in stunned silence and sadness, they weren’t angry or anything. I was so freakin’ pumped I absolutely flew the 150 miles on the highway between T-Mobile Park and my home. Soundtrack for part of it was listening to the final innings of Dan & Dan’s radio broadcast archived at mlb.com. Now I’m still antsy, might grab my headlamp and go for a jog. Go get ‘em, Tigers!13 points

@lordstanley has to be on cloud nine right now. I think he deserves a playoff share. Clearly his aura fed into the win.5 points

And some people think that bringing up any mention of Nazis is lazy, accusatory, or automatically disqualifying of the argument at hand. But it’s totally appropriate when the analogy fits. It may have been an overused trope back in the 90’s but **** Godwin’s law. A threshold has been crossed. This admin is doing Nazi **** and they deserve to be called out on it and those defending it need to have the balls to defend it or admit to it.4 points

That's something I've always wondered, too. I was always taught to pray in private, but that's a whole different story.3 points

Not to them. If Jesus did indeed come back soon he’d be deported to El Salvador because anybody named Jesus is obviously Mexican or something.3 points

M’s have pressure for sure. But tbese are all good players and I don’t think anything will be the result of pressure. My thoughts relate to fan thinking. It doesn’t project to the players. If it did this team would be home by now. They aren’t looking ahead or assuming that game 2 is a gimme. And Seattle isn’t either. We have a good chance to go up 2-0 coming home. That’s gold Jerry!3 points

My wife and I are at a Chili’s in Kingman, Arizona, watching the game, which they were gracious enough to turn a channel to. Trail Skubal went to high school in Kingman Arizona. I am not making this up, and I did not set it up to be this way. Complete coincidence.3 points

When the U.S. customs officer asked me at the Peace Arch if I had anything to declare and what is the purpose of my visit to the States, I said “I am a fan of the Detroit Tigers and I am here to collect Bert’s six runs”.3 points

And just like now, there were people then defending the 'right' of the Germans to strip people of their citizenship/legal status and deport them. And some of the people I know who defend the actions of today post things like 'Never Forget' on Holocaust Remembrance Day.3 points

Now the important thing is not to take the game tomorrow for granted just because we have the best pitcher in baseball on the mound. Not that our state of mind has any effect upon this.2 points

I don’t know why anyone cares. If the Tigers win the games, that’s all that matters.2 points

Why the FS1 guys so glum on their post game comments show. All four look like their dogs died.2 points

I feel like this so often at Lions games. Dude in front of me at the Browns game was probably 6’7. If he was standing, I was standing.2 points

..and as far as I know we still have a right to disagree with the reasons and say so. I wouldn't be surprised if we soon won't have that right any more but for now we do. And anybody who thinks it's okay to randomly bust into buildings, bust down doors, and remove naked children from apartments in the middle of the night? That's a person who has no soul.2 points

My wife loves the Bananas, wants to go to a game. I told her “have fun”. She said, “you don’t want to go, you love baseball!”. I told her, that is not baseball. I can appreciate the Globtrotters. It takes talent to dribble, dunk, and hit 3 pointers from the opposite out of bounds line like that. it doesn’t take talent to hit a 50 mph pitch over the plate, or throw out someone running 3/4 speed down the line. Now they are going to start a whole league around the concept. Just not for me.1 point

Yeah, that’s kind’of why I mentioned the offense needs to do stuff, too.1 point

Agreed, and can’t assume the Seattle offense will be quiet at Comerica. They really lit it up at Comerica just before the All Star break. T-Mobile is a pitcher’s park. Tigers need to win 2 more games and if they do it’s likely one of them will have been on the road, IMO (in addition to last night’s road win).1 point

Finnegan included? Montero has actually been reasonable also except of course last night1 point

I like Linda Ronstadt’s version I lived in Tucson, where she grew up and her family owned the major hardware store downtown from when the city was small. The Metro area is now 1 million people. When I lived there, everyone loved Linda because she was one of our own.1 point

One run might be enough against the Tigers offense, sadly.1 point

Another nice inning for Melton. I hope the Tigers start showing promise soon because I need to go to bed pretty quickly. I’m getting up at 3:35 AM mountain time to watch the European men’s cycling road racing championship from France the last major race of the year on HBO Max which is a lot less frustrating than following a baseball game that I take way too seriously. 100+ of these guys will be going 50 miles an hour down a winding hill on a “road“ that’s a little more than a path that an economy size car can travel down. It’s freaking terrifying. The race features, the biggest stars such as Tadej Pogačar (Slovenia), Jonas Vingegaard (Denmark), Remco Evenepoel (Belgium). João Almeida (Portugal), and Juan Ayuso (Spain). These guys are all great and I respect them all and Pogačar will probably win. Good night all get six runs for me.1 point
