“They” This whole right wing narrative of picking a few rotten apples out of millions to make one side out to be this murderous mob was about as predictable as the sun going up. We live in the dumbest timeline. I was at the Detroit one and my parents were in Sterling Heights. None of them were the lease bit violent.3 points

While true, I’m pretty sure this fairly describes every local media market. Of course, Harwell was an outsider when he first came here. I’ve often wondered how long it took for Tiger fans to warm to him.2 points

I must hypothesize again that there is a talent issue here, specifically Avila players vs Harris players, vs it being a coaching issue. You may remember this post of mine: I which I showed that when it came to controlling the zone this season, the Harris players in aggregate were among the best in baseball, and the Avila players were among the worst. But you may be surprised to learn that the end-of-season collapse was not the same for each group, and if we isolate September, we see there was almost no change at all for the Harris players, while it was the Avila players that ended up tripping all over themselves: Full Season Team Avila Harris PAs 6093 3997 2096 BB% rate 8.4% 7.4% 10.3% K% rate 23.9% 25.5% 20.8% wOBA .317 .318 .315 wRC+ 103 103 101 Sept Only Team Avila Harris PAs 911 632 279 BB% rate 9.0% 7.8% 11.8% K% rate 26.2% 28.0% 22.2% wOBA .294 .286 .313 wRC+ 87 82 100 So I gotta continue to believe that the hitting coaching is not the issue, and that the more Harris turns over the roster to be more players he acquires, the better overall results at the plate we will see.2 points

You can absolutely modify your own post. You absolutely can modify your own post and remove anything from it or change the wording. Come on. You know this.1 point

Hmm, this jersey choice would hardly inspire confidence for Toronto sports fans before a Game 71 point

One of Hinch's eccentricities as a manager is the degree to which he keeps his assistants buried. I don't believe we have ever had a manager who keeps his coaches away from the public to the degree Hinch does. For good or ill that means that as fans we see/hear virtually nothing about anything they do or what they think or their approaches as individuals. I find it a little odd but I guess as long as guys aren't quitting because of it...1 point

12M people...that has to be the goal for the next NK day. Got to cross that 3.5% threshold.1 point

Of the 3 you mention, I actually think Tork has the best opportunity as it currently stands to fit Harris' mold, especially when the challenge system is in effect. I think his walk rates will increase significantly and hopefully his eye that is currently almost too good actually becomes an asset.1 point

This will be the first regular season home game I am not attending since December 2022. Couldn’t make it happen with the work travel schedule. The beer will be cold and cheaper at whatever bar I land at, or from the couch!1 point

Both Rizzs and Rathbun were in a no win situation in Detroit. Following a legend who got tossed the way Ernie did at the time. They both ended up on their feet in a more amicable situation. Rizz, back to Seattle. Bob ended up in Atlanta (much closer to home and both he and his wife's family) Rathbun has had a good career doing college football and basketball. As well as being the Hawks lead announcer for several years. He also did Braves play by play for a while. In many ways, especially for sports media, Detroit fans have a bit of "small town" views when it comes to announcers. It's the "you're not from around here so your not one of us" attitude1 point

I saw a clip on X where Kris Draper was being interviewed about Finnie. It seems when he scouted him before the draft Finnie was not on the radar but ended up getting a lot more ice time than was typical due to injuries of other players. Draper saw Finnie’s skating as elite. He also said that Finnie has grown three inches since then. That’s a little hard to square with pre-draft and current measurements which both show him at 6’1” but agents sometimes exaggerate height pre-draft. And his listed weight is now 190 vs 170 pre-draft. Anyway, seems like Draper was in the right place at the right time to see Finnie’s talents showcased.1 point

I’m still getting used to the broadcast crews calling the Wings’ young players by their full names instead of the initials we’ve grown accustomed to referring to them as, lol1 point

And you have to consider the player. Some guys are just natural fielders - in the sense that everything about catching a ball sort of comes to them naturally - they can move with little impact on their confidence - Baez being the example. Those guys don't care where you play them. Other guys have to work at fielding, footwork, etc. A player like that may have competence and confidence issue if you don't let him settle into one position, and that can spill over into hitting etc. So like everything else - it depends.1 point

The same can be said about locking Keith into a position. They aren't necessarily going to stick him at third and leave him there every day.1 point

Yeah, no thanks for me to any of those. They definitely make the team worse next year, which if this was 2023 or even deadline 2024, it’s a different story, but where this team is now, no thank you.1 point

I think Paul was alright, but Gene was pissed off. But Gene was always pissed off. That's why Ace left the band. Gene got too serious. Peter Criss was getting bruises from Ace laugh-slapping him on the arm. That was funny too.1 point

Hinch made the observation in the end of season presser that you can't thinking about what you are trying to do once you are in the box, but I think that is where a lot of the team ended up - for some reason they started getting tentative, and that is just death because then you are always behind or in between. IDK - maybe when they are in that kind of funk just drop all the pregame planning for a while to switch it up and clear their minds? Or something else. But the thing that stood out to me is that we didn't hear word one about them having tried anything - so either they treat all that stuff as top secret (certainly possible, maybe likely as Hinch seems to like keeping his assistants totally underground, but why?) or they weren't doing much as a staff to change the mood. Even in the bad old days with Legendary Lloyd we would hear about Lloyd and various players working on this or that to try and help them break out of a funk.1 point
