Again, as has been discussed her previously. The President of the United States, the one you voted for, said it is the responsibility of the President when a shutdown occurs. The blame falls on them. Trump is President, Republicans control every branch of government. They can use the nuclear option, remove the filibuster, and vote to open the government without a single Democratic vote. Considering the dozens and dozens of times the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans have tried to end the ACA or repeal significant portions of it, I can't blame Democrats for finally showing some stones and standing up for something. They know damn well that the Republicans in Congress and Trump won't negotiate in good faith and may well not continue the ACA subsidies.4 points

I suppose we could quibble over how high the ceilings for Anderson and Lee truly are. But your questions are indeed valid. I don’t know what’s better. If you have faith in your internal evaluations, then I think the best approach is cash in the guys you don’t believe in, before they prove to others that they are nothing more than potential. in the case of those two, I would be surprised if they fetched much of anything at this stage. I’m not highly interested in making sure every last decent AAA prospect has a corresponding slot to provide themself. That doesn’t seem to work very often. It’s been two years now and Colt Keith is just now feeling like an asset. That’s a long way of saying I’d prefer they address the acute need that they have right now, and worry about being forced to trade guys that have value later once there is a true logjam. We often talk about that “good problem to have” in a hypothetical sense, but it’s been a while since I can remember ever actually having that good problem. Short answer to your question is that I think I’d rather gamble on them being good and underutilized, rather than trade them, but that’s mostly because I don’t think the bottom two have that much value in trade, and the top three can slot very easily into our future plans.3 points

Nice .. Yesavage was amazing!!!!! And in regards to my question earlier. All the Americans in here who are pulling for the Jays (specifically for reasons outside of the scope of baseball itself), I appreciate all of you, means the world with everything going on.3 points

Tonight Yasavage became just the second rookie pitcher (after Don Newcombe in 1949) to throw 11 strikeouts in a World Series game. He’s also the second-youngest pitcher (after Smoky Joe Wood in 1912) to do this. He’s also also the first rookie pitcher in WS history to strike out five consecutive batters. And he’s broken Newcombe’s record with 12. Some kinda night for the kid.3 points

Players who say God was on their side when they accomplish something doesn't make much sense. How about when they fail? Did their God ignore their needs? How about the other team/players? Was their god punishing them? And don't ever think about the American civil war....both sides claimed God was on their side. That didn't seem to work out too well for the Confederate side. God must hate racists. No hope for them. And then lets talk about these MAGA Christians. Look at their behavior. Deporting people in need. Denying school kids breakfast and lunches. Putting people in cages after seperating them from their families. Taking away millions of people's Healthcare. Taking food stamps away from the needy. And many, many more of their actions that make these Christians appear to be phony liars. Tell them that Jesus was woke and see their reaction. The hatred these people exhibit is a sure sign that they are in fact, not real Christians. They're just in a cult. The MAGA cult. And never forget, not all Republicans are racists but ALL racists are MAGA republicans.2 points

Of course not. But it’s still a good faith offer to guarantee 60 (with another 20 million parachute) when the tigers were still only on the hook for 10 heading into last year. Of course it sounds silly now, a year after he was excellent again and remained healthy. I think people severely underestimate the value to a team being able to go year to year with a SP. But Heyman and others like Evan P can’t help but go hur-Dee-hur look how cheap the tigers are, when IMO the reality is that a true long term deal was never going to be on the table and this particular offer was probably more of a formality than something either side believed would be accepted given the circumstances.2 points

A five person infield/DH arrangement of Bichette (or Bregman), Rainer, Kevin, Colt, and Anderson/Lee seems fine to me. Plus the system assets you got in return for an actually good version of Anderson/Lee? Sign me up!2 points

So the first five games were supposed to be tough. Talks of going 1-4 or even 0-5. They haven't played well and still finish the 5 have stretch 3-2.2 points

All of this talk about what was offered in the past isn’t remotely relevant. Wake me when someone reports what the tigers are currently offering, and then we can start talking about how far apart they actually are and how much of a gap there is to bridge. I hate this part of the offseason. Go jays. Just get it over with.1 point

Any time Republicans want to utilize the option to break a filibuster proof majority they can do so. Any time they want to extend the ACA subsidies, they can vote to do so, and get Democrat votes to open the government.1 point

The fact that there are no void years and no dead cap for 2030 is great and obviously leaves a lot of room for restructuring/extensions to help the 2027-30 cap #'s. A great job again by the front office.1 point

The Governor of Louisiana spending any time or energy firing or picking football coaches kind of makes you understand one of the reasons that Louisiana is considered the worst or usually bottom 4 states to live in. Every passing year I pay less attention to college sports - because it's just so disgusting. You've got people that starting Saturday aren't going to know where or how they're getting food, and states are spending money to pay off fired football coaches for not reaching unrealistic expectations. As far as this idea that the buyout won't come from state money - do you really believe that? I sure don't. I don't care about Brian Kelly, he's a piece of **** of a human, but he gets millions and someone will give him more and he'll keep being a piece of ****. The thought of Declan Sullivan's parents apologizing to Notre Dame is just so twisted.1 point

What if they already had Bichette? What would they do then? Someone can move to the outfield in a few years. Or maybe some of those guys don't hit well enough in the majors to matter. They aren't getting Bichette anyway, but if they did, these things work themselves out.1 point

My friend from Cuba, who has been working hard to get his permanent residency here, still had a wife and child there, as well as his parents. He reports they lost furniture but otherwise the housing structure is OK, and thankfully, so are they. Very scary time for a guy living in a foreign land separated from his family.1 point

Same. During the all star game, fine. Maybe in between half innings during a regular season game. But not in the middle of playoff action.1 point

Me either, but to @gehringer_2 point, I don’t think these are individuals approaching LSU and saying “I will write you a blank check to fire your coach.” More likely, the Athletic Department is approaching the individuals they know who could do this and propose them being the impetus behind a new direction. To that end, those individuals are not likely be to be seriously swayed by the description of the ask. Whether it’s “we want $52MM to fire our coach” or “we want $52MM for a new hard sciences wing” — even to the extent they would, someone willing to spend $52MM to fire Kelly would probably be willing to spend $25MM on an indoor field house for non-revenue sports…. But maybe not $77MM to both fire Kelly and build that indoor field house. I generally don’t think a state university paying any(!) employee tens of millions to do nothing and go work elsewhere because they were deemed to be a bad hire in the first place is a bad use of funds, regardless of the spin used to sell the use of those funds after the fact.1 point
