well, you tell me. Since most states get by perfectly well without it and voter fraud is virtually non-existent in any state, who put it in place and why? Just a bunch of petty bureaucrats who think dotted i's need be dotted better? If so they need to get over themselves. If not that, any alternative explanation says something less attractive....2 points

All I’ve learned from the 1pm games is that we should have beat Green Bay and we should have blown out Minnesota.2 points

I hope that Torres accepts the offer. There may be a couple of more interesting options in free agency, but it sounds like the Tigers will be pursuing pitching more than hitting and I wouldn't want them to lose Torres and not replace him.1 point

I wouldn’t either, but he implied at is press conference that Johnson had to watch him do it for a while(after Lynn was fired) to know what he was thinking and he believed that Morton could learn that also. He also believes in what Morton brings on the passing side. So I could see it going either way. I could also see Campbell keeping Morton and continuing to call plays if that’s what he thinks is best. Whatever way, Campbell has shown he will do whatever he thinks is best for the team -and so far he has been proven correct many more times than not.1 point

JJ has a 17.4 passer rating in the game against the Bears right now. It's amazing we lost to this bum. I know he's essentially a rookie, but the NFL game looks way too fast, with way too much too process for him.1 point

'Permanently' until the end of the season? /..sigh../ There are many adverbs that might describe "till the end of the season". One thing that is permanent is that permanently isn't one of them! 🙄1 point

your point is valid that in the abstract, everyone needs to learn to be a responsible citizen regardless of their economic or racial circumstances. The question is whether constructing hurdles to voting that have no other factually supportable purpose than to be hurdles is even a remotely good or effective way to this.1 point

I still don't understand your problem with positional adjutment beyond presentation, but let's talk about WAA. WAA does include all the same defensive calculations as WAR. There are pros and cons of using WAA that go beyond presentation. The main difference between WAA and WAR is playing time. An average player can keep accumulating WAR as long as he performs above replacement. On the other hand, this player will always be 0 WAA whether he has 100 PA or 10000 PA. This might be appealing in HoF or MVP discussions, but maybe less so in roster construction discussions or comparisons between players who are not great players. For Hall of Fame discussions, players with high but short peaks will rank better in WAA, whereas players with longer duration but lower peaks will rank better with WAR. I think it's worth looking at both. For other discussions, the problem with WAA is that an average player who is actually a pretty valuable player will always be 0 wins no matter how much he plays. A player who has a great 50 PA before going down with a season ending injury will have a higher WAA than an average player with 600 PA. With WAR, the full-season, player will be about 2 whereas the 50 PA player will be between 0 and 1 which I think is more appropriate. That's one extreme example, but illustrations the potential problem with WAA in player evaluation.1 point

Tech has said they plan to increase their sports commitment by something like $225 million over the next four years. That may be enough to get them back to being competitive in the ACC. Franklin is going to cost them a lot $$ but I think there is something in his Penn State buyout that would offset what he would get from VPI or another school. As a fan from a distance, I’m not sold. I’d rather see a young up and coming coach form one of the state schools get the job (Bob Cheney at JMU for example) but I think Penn State among other schools have their eye on him as well. Va Tech and UVA are smaller versions of UM and Michigan State. Big dreams. I just don’t see it in football I guess we’ll find out Monday1 point

Yes, they need to decouple advanced defensive statistical evaluation from the economic-oriented metric that is Wins Above Replacement and create a separate metric that has a baseline of average. I think Wins Above Average (WAA) was supposed to accomplish that, but I don’t know how its calculations comport to WAR, of which I have a basic understanding, and I also don;t know whether or how it includes defense.1 point

He probably had no concept of what you readily thought of. I am constantly astounded by how other people seem to have no clue about effective and efficient driving techniques that are like second nature to me. Here’s one: People who constantly dive into parking lot spots on angles. Then they have to pull out a little, then pull in a little, then pull out a little more and pull back in, going back and forth in and out of the spot until they are perfectly lined up so they can fit all the way in. They have no clue about the concept of swinging wide into the parking spot so you pull into it straight and have an acceptable if not perfect landing the first time.1 point

In your address bar type: about:config there will be another empty address bar up top. In it search for: widget.non-native-theme.win.scrollbar.use-system-size Make sure that value is set to false Then again in the address bar search for: widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override there will be a number for the value. Just enter whatever you want, higher being wider.1 point

I had a big bump on the back of my heel. It became painful to wear shoes. Dress shoes were impossible to wear. What they have to do is grind it away. They do that by detaching the achilles tendon, grinding the bump away and then re-attaching the achilles. They also took a small piece of the tendon on my big toe and stitched it to my achilles to lengthen it a bit. But after that I could not put any weight on that foot for 2 1/2 months. I really don't want to go through that again, but I am going to have to at some point. Knee Scooters Rule ! It was cheaper to actually buy one than to rent one, so I own it. Wanna borrow it? You in Michigan?1 point

My mother in laws uncles were born in that time frame. All from Poland. Same way. They found money hidden in all kinds of places. $20 here or there. Garbage bags filled with cleaned out styrofoam containers and zip lock baggies. Can’t throw **** away. On the one hand I’m glad I don’t worry about money and am blessed with the means to be that way. I’m not rich but I make ok money I think and know of too many people who died in their 60s for me to not have fun now. I have no debt other than 9 years on a mortgage at <3% I love concerts and baseball and hockey games. Live life. I do not take it for granted but I also never saw a brinks truck driving behind a hearse on the way to the cemetery. but I also think of uncle Ted and Bruno and I wonder if I am wasteful and gluttonous.1 point

Lakers might have something here with Bronny. They are now 1-0 in games he started. Yeah, he only played 9 minutes and scored 0 points on 0-2 shooting, but so what.1 point

As far as I have always been given to understand, increasing the probability of getting caught deters prohibited behavior much more effectively than increasing the severity of the penalty being caught. But I would guess there is another thing at work here - which is that within the MLB administrative law system, 'tampering' has a formal definition as well as a set of precedents on past rulings - i.e. it's part of a typical English system of jurisprudence. So GMs and agents know pretty well where the lines not to cross are, and there are still going to be many modes of communication available that don't formally cross those lines or that might but are too difficult to prosecute, but still get a lot of signaling done.1 point

When I was in New Mexico sometime in the 1970s I purposely hiked up a mountain side because it was covered in clouds, and I remember being somewhat disappointed when I entered the cloud bank because it was nothing more than fog. It’s not like I thought it would be the texture of cotton candy or anything, but it had never occurred to me before that clouds are nothing more than fog.1 point

Boras to Cohen: Steve, next Winter I look forward to discussing Tarik's free agency with you and the Mets. Obviously, it would not be appropriate to discuss any terms while he is under control of the Tigers, but he did mention that he loves coming to NY for award season, and getting bagels at his favorite store at 440 10th Avenue. That's 440 and 10, Steve. If you are interested, go to 440 and 10, Steve.1 point

Make no mistake the RW is using violence as a tool for control. You ask any reporter, any pol, any higher level executive in the federal or state governments and they will tell you they fear for themselves, their families or their subordinates because of the unleashed horde/mob. J6 was a rehearsal and a demonstration.0 points
