the market has spoken. this is all that Rodriguez was worth. and it is not very much. so the question is not, are the Os wrong? the question is, is the marketplace wrong? if the Tigers offered Carp or Perez for Rodriguez, the Os would have instantly taken that over Ward, a lesser, more expensive player, with less team control. but the Tigers did not make that trade for a reason. I am begging you not to think that the one of the worst run franchises in professional sports somehow has gamed the system and outmaneuvered 28 other teams to acquire a huge asset for pennies on the dollar. could that be true? yes, it could be true. is it? nope4 points

I don’t think Avila was as bad as some do. I even think he wanted to get us on the right track as far as analytics, development, etc, but he clearly was over his head. Harris has completely revamped the development system which has allowed some of Al’s picks to make their impact. Meadows was stuck. At this time last year most wanted Tork gone. Same with Mize. And if you want to use Harris’ FA signings against him, who did Al get in FA? Zimmerman? Upton? Pelfrey?3 points

I hope they pursue Cease, Valdez, Suarez and King. King is a big injury risk, but he is too talented to ignore.1 point

My son and I are going to see Sisu: Road to Revenge tonight. It’s basically a comedy where a lot of bad people are dismembered in an entertaining manner. In the first film, he was killing Nazis and in the second film he’s killing Stalinists. Count me in! I like seeing films where the agents of repressive regimes are brought to heel. It’s also just under an hour and a half, which is just about right for something that isn’t too deep.1 point

I think schools at the “top” of their conferences aren’t actually under the illusion that they are a contender just because they are at the top though. I think we might be surprised what fans/schools will tolerate. But I think it’s incredibly hard to know for sure unless you do it. Speaking only for myself, but I have become incredibly disinterested in college football. I don’t think it’s because of NIL or greed or whatever. I just find the games so boring now, and I think it’s mostly because there only a couple per year worth caring about for your team. Since when did it become necessary to pay 12 games and judge success by only losing once? It’s not fun or interesting to have close to 10 games already decided before the season even starts. I think the big matchups interest people because the teams are both good, not because they both happen to have gone 8-0 or 7-1 against scrubs. I would love to see them try to create a 14 team super league and play a 13 week round robin and then have a small playoff at the end. Maybe we would even get an interesting matchup that kicks off before the sun goes down.1 point

AI has junked up all the social media platforms regarding the Tiger offseason. I'm just glad my mentally handicapped brother isn't able to monitor all the stupid trades and assertions that Skubal "is a free agent" and that the Yankees need to go out and sign him.1 point

The producers of Dallas, to get around any leaks, filmed every cast member shooting him to stave off any assumptions... even his TV parents. Larry Hagman claimed Queen Elizabeth asked him who did it.1 point

Skubal was on foul territory again. They showed a clip of a guy asking him to sign a Yankees hat and Scoob declined. He told the guys he'll only sign Tigers stuff. He also said the crazy numbers we're seeing online aren't coming from his camp. They brought up trade stuff and it seemed to deflate his energy a bit. His last 2 online interviews seem to point more that he would like to stay in Detroit. I hope Harris doesn't have it in mind already that he won't be in Detroit longer term. Work toward something like 8/350. I fully get the risk. His competitiveness, talent and grit all fall into that cliche we hear about Detroit dna.1 point

I think Avila brought a lot of the right pieces into this Org, including a boatload of players and Hinch. But he was clearly in over his head. We're all thankful that Harris is our GM. And happy to be rid of Avila. Harris clearly understands draft and development, has invested the required resources in this and revamped it to be a proper developmental system, understands analytics and how to USE them... and is completely in-synch with Hinch. Who also understands draft and development and analytics completely. I like the emphasis in controlling the strike zone (both as a pitcher and as a hitter), and his drafts specifically for very high hit tool (power to be developed) and pitchers that can actually hit the strike zone. And I am also one willing to give Harris the time to get us to that Championship level... unlike Chas's idea that only he ("just about") is willing to give Harris the time... Avila was clearly over his head. But I think the effort to discredit Avila 100% for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING he did is asinine. IMO.1 point

We're a big company, so while we do have a large acquisition going on right now, this specifically was done for cost cutting purposes only. We were specifically told none of these jobs were lost to AI, simply we needed to get leaner and meaner.1 point

Things I believe: -Avila was not nearly as bad as he is often made out to be. -Harris has not yet demonstrated that he is the wunderkind that some claim. -Both contributed to the last two seasons postseason success. -Ilitch is not cheap, and if we’re not spending to some people’s expectations on the MLB roster, that is Harris making those decisions. -Jim Campbell never should have traded Jason Thompson for Al Cowens.1 point

The Wings have had at least 25 points through 20 games in 3 of the past 4 seasons including this one. They were 11-6-3 in late November 2023. They were 11-5-4 in late November 2022. One difference about those years is that the Wings were well off the division lead because the Atlantic was stacked. In past years, Toronto-Tampa-Florida-Boston were a wall you had to get through to secure one of the Atlantic's three guaranteed playoff spots. That doesn't exist this year, IMO.1 point

Avila was terrible. When you collect first round draft picks for so long, they are bound get in the playofs eventually. I expect Harris to keep them contending and making the playoffs consistently. As far as the last two years though, Harris did not contribute in any extraordinary way. I think any new GM could have done that. In 2024, They Tigers had given up on the season and Hinch (who was hired by Avila) was more responsible for the miracle than anyone else. In 2025, they almost blew it down the wire. I think Harris will prove to be a really good GM (I hate the term POBO) though1 point

I think there's a chance McGonigle spends most of the season in AAA, since he has never played at that level before. Then we bring him up in September for a pot of coffee, he maintains rookie eligibility into 2027 (or whenever the next season after this one is going to be), then we run him out there for a good shot at RoY and an extra first round pick in 2028 (or, you know, whenever ...).1 point
