Please stop. The Tigers made the playoffs because of both Avila and Harris. Can we move on?8 points

The ultimate takeaway from his words. He's a black hole who lacks any sort of humanity. Sure, same as it ever was, but he's becoming less subtle and more sloppy in his old age as well. It's ironic that his strongest support continues to come from self-professed Christians, because I cannot think of a public figure who symbolizes spiritual death quite like he does.3 points

This Is Spinal Tap The Princess Bride Stand By Me. Those are all perfect movies, in my opinion. They all had the perfect amount of humor and heart and every single joke lands. And Rob set aside his ego and let improvisers improvise. Those movies were all perfectly-cast. When Harry Met Sally, Misery, A Few Good Men..........man, that's a list.3 points

"Trump Derangement Syndrome" has been a useful construct for Trump over the years, but the reality is that there are plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike Donald Trump (as a leader and as a human being) and the construct is often used in a way to delegitimize any of that criticism or dislike for him in a way that doesn't have to address the substance of it. Same with "Orange Man Bad".... a rhetorically clever but cynical and ultimately meaningless phrase that effectively absolves the user from having to deal with any substance behind whatever criticism is being lodged. The reality is that he's just a bad person and always has been... and we're now seeing an even more unfiltered version of him due to the inevitable loss of control that was always going to happen as he got older. And his critics have always had a better read on things than some would like to admit.2 points

We are lost. There will be not one person who are following him now ever stepping back. You can see that, can’t you?2 points

That would be my message to the league if I'm Dan Campbell or Rod Wood. "Our defense sucks. I know we play sticky coverage and I know we are going to get some calls against us. But it needs to go both ways. We can't afford a bad holding call that kills the drive. We can't afford a missed DPI on a play that should bust it open. Both happened Sunday, multiple times."1 point

Please explain what the **** TDS is and how whatever it might be is bad to the point to warrant it being used as some kind of slur. You are incapable of criticizing the man without some kind of caveat or disclaimer. As if you are afraid of something. What is it? Will you be kicked out of Macomb County? the man is the president and leader of a vicious and killer cult and every bad thing he does needs to be highlighted and spoken about. If that’s TDS then do be it.1 point
-
What are you talking about? He’s a **** stain on this country and should be treated so.1 point
-
Trust me, some of you folks on this board have TDS. That said, you're right, there is projection with it too, which is needed by your brain when you're in a cult (MAGA) to be able to rationalize the behavior. His statements on Reiner is not surprising. Unpresidential, undignified, unbecoming, but certainly not surprising.1 point

I think earlier in the thread I said no I would not sign anyone to these contracts. I would make an exception in Skubal's case. His change up is an insane pitch. His work ethic and competitiveness are excellent. I think he's up there with Verlander and Scherzer. I always hated they let them go and I don't want to lose Skubal.1 point

They point at the book, but if they bothered actually reading it or internalizing many of it's lessons, they wouldn't hold someone like this in such high esteem. Because again, with how he has lead his life and how he comports himself, there's no better avatar for spiritual death among public figures in this country IMO. And Christians wonder why so many Americans take a skeptical view of the Christian faith in this country... when all you do is talk, but then turn around and exalt someone who lives a life that goes against all of what your faith purportedly stands for and goes against all of the things that you judge everyone else for, why wouldn't you expect people to be cynical about it all? It's honestly sad that in such a horrific act that took away someone who created art and added to the culture as Reiner did, we have no choice to address our narcissistic (and addled) President who will stop at nothing to insert himself into the story and make it all about his personal grievances. What a shame.1 point

but....SHOULD they sign skubal? do you sign a PITCHER to a monster contract before the new cba is signed? how many more years does skubal have left at this level? 2? 3? im sure this has been bandied about before in this huge thread, but i need a palate cleanser after reading people fellate al fricking avila for multiple pages.1 point

If the Lions win their last three games, all winnable games, they have a 94% chance of making the playoffs.1 point

I'm glad some posters for these GDT are posting during the games because otherwise I'd be worried they were off somewhere strapped with TNT ready to blow up a public place.1 point

Anthony Geary, Luke from General Hosptial died yesterday. I always link Luke and Laura’s wedding, Prince Charles and Diana’s wedding, and the launch of the first space shuttle together in my memory bank. I was 7-8 years old and I vividly remember how big of a deal those were at the time. All happpend within about 6 months of each other in ‘81.1 point

well, there is nothing I'd love to see more than for Trumpers to have to have to win back their standing in decent society by making their appearances before an American version of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to explain what they were thinking. Well, a guy can dream.1 point

I told myself a few years ago that the day Trump died, I was walking up to the bar and buying a round of drinks. After reading his post on Rob Reiner, I might just walk around to all the bars in downtown Plymouth doing the same. What an absolute pure and total piece of trash that loser is.1 point

Alabama giving DeBoer an extension and then getting beat by Oklahoma would be the funniest thing in a while. I just don't see anything being done unless Alabama wins a couple games in the playoffs.1 point

I mean if he were to show grace even once it would shatter the egos of his followers who are more about the destructive power of the Presidency than noblesse oblige, the sustainment of positive values, or the progress of the human species out of Hobbesian despair.1 point

Charlie Kirk was Bull Connor who used a microphone instead of a firehose and dogs. While I don't think his death was justified, people getting canceled over chiding his death, while the President posts insane **** like this, is wild to me.1 point

This is Chris Guest’s scene but Reiner is just as funny because he gave him the right space and setups. That’s a skill too.1 point

I listened to his appearance on club random last month when driving back from TN. They were riffing about something and said during filming of The Bucket List Jack told him 3 rules to live by at their age. Don’t trust a fart, Never pass up a bathroom, never led a hard on to to waste.1 point

There are going to be some Avila leftover players. Harris just has to choose the correct ones, and let the others work their way out the Org. By trade, free agency, or otherwise. Quite a few of Avila's players have some team control left too so it's not going to be a fast process. But I could see Harris wanting to build around Dingler, Briceno, Liranzo, McGonigle, Rainer, Keith, Clark, Jobe, Melton... Those guys are easier to see than the rest. Anderson if he's good just as a DH. He and the others above fit his "mold". Whoever else has staying power will have to impress Harris to get it... showing that they deserve it. A mix of sourced guys I've listed. That's just the way it's going to be. Which is perfectly fine. I expect Harris to find or keep the right players, and Hinch & Fetter to turn them into perennial playoff contenders. It's Harris that I trust will make the right decisions. But wasn't it Harris that said "calculated risks"...? I'd like to see some of those calculated risks. Or at least MORE calculated than what we've seen so far.1 point

With Parsons officially out, there is a real possibility that each of these outcomes is just the favorite winning. Bears over Packers Lions over Steelers Lions over Vikings Niners over Bears Ravens over Packers Would leave the North at: Bears 11-5 Lions 10-6 Packers 9-6-1 A Lions win in Soldier Field and they'll win the North, probably be the 3-seed hosting the Seahawks or Niners at 11-6. A loss and they're probably on the outside looking in at 10-7 if the Packers beat the Vikings. All that being said, we should probably root for hope the Packers win again on Saturday Night. A Green Bay win allows us to control our own destiny again for the 7-seed.1 point

Same with Packers as well I think. Last 4 losses all set up the same way and defense could not get a stop.1 point
-
Well, today went pretty much as expected. Lions lose to Rams, figured the Bears would beat Cleveland, and the Packers would lose to Denver1 point

Why are we still giving Avilla credit for drafting the guys almost everybody else would’ve drafted if they were in a similar draft order? That’s sort of like saying “I won the lottery so I’m better than you.”1 point

We spent a delightful day in Caruacao this Spring as part of a cruise package. They are proud of their collection of baseball major leaguers. Andruw Jones, Ozzie Allies, Kenley Jensen, Jonathan Schoop, Jurickson Profar among others. Also one of my favorite descriptive salutations comes from there. Dushi....as in everything is Dushi1 point
