The whole concept of the WBC during spring training, during players ramp up period, has always seemed disrespectful to players health, especially pitchers, putting them in intense competition before they are 100%. I don't blame a player for wanting to stick to his routines.1 point

I want to reiterate that I do not “hate“ the WBC, even though I’m not interested in it in the least bit. But one of the things that makes me roll my eyes is how all the announcers are making a big deal about Skubal pitching “only once” in the WBC and explaining it because “he’s looking at a big payday.“ Maybe he sees it as an intrusion into his usual spring training regimen and that he’s actually focused on the Tigers just because that’s what he does. Full stop. Although he probably wouldn’t look at it in this manner, because it’s the way I’m looking at it, it’s a corporate profit maximization scheme. Why sacrifice your health for the sake of a corporate spectacle? Of course, everything is a corporate spectacle for profit maximization, but this just strikes me as an egregious version of it.1 point

Colin Grey found guilty in GA yesterday - 2nd degree murder and manslaugter, for leaving Colt Grey in possession of the AK-47 he had given him despite the obvious signs of his instability. Jury deliberated only 2 hrs. Colt Grey still awaiting trial. But here is the line that stopped me in this story: Seriously, you couldn't think of a better diversion for troubled teen than the deadliest weapon you could find? All I can say is it's too bad this Yahoo's genes were ever in the pool. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/03/us/colin-gray-verdict-apalachee-shooting.html1 point

I like that the new service is offered for subscription via mlb and available in the same app that I have for mlb.tv. It was annoying to go into the mlb app to watch other games but having our local game blacked out and hai g to switch to the other app to get our game. I presume these games will be integrated into the espn/disney app like the rest of the mlb app offerings.1 point

En****tification at its finest. But on the plus side, these games are available now. When I grew up outside of Michigan in the 90's, I could maybe watch two Tigers games a year. Now I can watch 153. You were already paying for the Tigers games, it was just baked into your cable package.1 point

Don't forget, the issues that caused the casualties in Afghanistan were facilitated by Trump's lack of planning. I will forever blame those deaths on the Orange Anti-Christ1 point

Part of me wants to say I'm a republican still. I feel like the party moved, not me, so why should I have to classify as something different? But I'm sure that's not completely true anymore. Not sure if I've moderated or if I still fall under classical liberalism.1 point

Deuteronomy 18:20 from various versions of the text. KJV, ESV, GW, and Catholic I won't include the Mormon or other latter versions because that would be supreme irony.1 point

Yes, I remember that too. I worked at a station on the edge of town. Open field to the West. 6 am, cold as ****. Had to take the cap off, which had a padlock. Froze in winter. So fun. Junior in high school. Went through the oil embargo of 73-74. Had to ration gas. Not on the bingo card. We had cars lined up down the street. What's crazy...Before that happened that year, there was a huge concert somewhere around here out in the sticks. Big name bands. When I went to work on Sunday morning the place was full, even parked along the streets to get in. I opened the door, called my boss and said - get the hell out here. What a zoo. I got to meet and talk to the guys from Brownsville Station. That was super off the charts cool, and I did smoke in the boys room.1 point

What we don't produce ourself we import. From 2023, but probably not much different today; When oil prices didn't go nuts today I thought about the above. The straight doesn't mean much to us. But at the same time, Brent crude, which will have a bigger impact on that part of the world, didn't go nuts either. Most of Iran's oil goes to China, which is probably why the straight is still open (there are reports this isn't true as well). You need money to fight a war, and oil is money. You can't print it either. :-)1 point

It absolutely does not need to go away. And no, him developing a midrange shot would not help his value, it would hurt it. Teams would pray Duren shoots the midrange all game. League averages by distance: At rim: 65–70% Midrange: 40–45% Three-point: 35–38% What that translates to as points per shot Rim: 0.68 × 2 = 1.36 points Midrange: 0.43 × 2 = 0.86 points Three: 0.36 × 3 = 1.08 points If you’re shooting 43% from 18 feet, that’s equivalent to shooting about 29% from three. Congrats, way to spend all of those developmental hours on turning Duren into Ausar Thompson. Get him in a gym this summer shooting thousands of three's. He doesn't have be Steph here, he doesn't have to shoot 40%. 33% is the floor, if he can hit that then defenses at least have to pay attention to him out there. That would create a lot of spacing for Cade and others, unlike Duren shooting the midrange where his defender will still be near the paint.1 point

Oil prices are up nearly 8% so far today at over $73/barrel for crude. I suspect with the Straits of Hormuz being completely shutdown now that this problem only escalates and oil prices spike further up. This will of course cause gas prices to climb higher and higher in the coming weeks. People often measure their feelings about inflation on the price of gas. They're already on edge about the cost of living. If and when gas prices jump markedly higher, Trump is going to get ROASTED on gas prices just as Biden did when he was in office. FAFO.1 point
