  1. The value you get back was not significant enough to sacrifice contention in 2026. They signed Framber and wanted to win.. Trading him was a bad business move.

  2. the confusion about the SOH is real, and the media is not really interested in figuring out what is actually happening. Problem is, do you believe the corrupt, totalitarian regime? or do you believe Iran? No good choices.

  5. So, when Rudy croaks, you think Obama will tweet out that he's glad he is dead? Now he can't hurt anyone else? No. Of course not. Only assholes would do that.

  6. Pitchers are always a risk, but they absolutely made the right move. Once they signed Valdez, there was no question keeping Skubal was the right thing to do.

  8. I have to imagine the Wings are trying to move one of their top 3 goalie prospects this offseason for immediate help. Guimond, Pradel and Gylander all showed some promise last season too I thought. It is a bit insane the goalie prospect depth they've built up, hope they can weaponize it.

  10. The only problem (OK - not the *only* problem) with MTGs epiphany is that if she were a more serious person she would have stayed in the House and kept up the opposition. But it points up how hard it is for the blue side to actually move these people to their side. Trump is losing support among people like Green who have come to oppose him on an issue, e.g. Green on Epstein, Carlson on Iran, but who still support too much of the remaining RW agenda to ever actually vote on the blue side. A couple of generations ago, when political difference weren't so culturally conditioned, it was a lot easier to get people to change parties over policy issues. Today getting a person across the divide is tied up in personal identity issues as well as policy preferences.

  17. I am confident the Tigers will survive and Skubal will return, but because of this he will only be able to go 5 innings in the deciding game of a playoff series, not 6.

  30. It was a dumb trade from a GM with no clue about the new CBA. It was 100% a trade you make in the past but you absolutely cant do it now under the new rules. They are now an apron team which means their roster is pretty much locked in. The new rules make it almost impossible to maneuver via trades and free agency is impossible. Their roster will have ehh, a good $250-$300 million in luxury tax payments in 3 years. They have: No PG. Absolutely nobody to distribute the ball. No Shooting. They make Detroit look like the splash brother era Warrior teams they are so bad. And Franz being out didn't do that. He is a career 32% three point shooter. Suggs being out didn't do that. He is a career 33% three point shooter. No PoA defender. Suggs can handle smaller guards like Brunson. But nobody to guard the bigger guys like Cade, Jalen Johnson, etc. Best part. They have no way to fix any of their roster problems because they are now an apron team. On top of that, they have no draft picks worth a damn to help fix any of their problems. If you make a deal like that, it has to be two things. 1) He has to be a star if you give up that much and lock yourself in that bad. Bane is a nice player, he is not even close to being a star. 2) He has to be the final piece to the puzzle. If you are going to lock your roster in because of all the new rules, you can't have massive holes to fix on your roster. They do. I love aggressive GM's. Hell, I had multiple aggressive trade ideas for Detroit. Difference is, none of them put them in the roster/salary hell Orlando is in for the next 3 years.

  31. I've been using Fedora for more than 15 yrs. It's the opposite of an LTS, releases come 2'ce/yr and updates every day. But Linux updates so painlessly, even the full release updates take less than maybe 1/2 hr. TBH, I probably still wouldn't advise someone to use linux if they are not open to learning how to maintain it. It's not particularly hard but you have be willing to do a searching when you have an issue and a little typing to fix it. OTOH, when stuff is broke, linux developers fix it FAST - usually a day or two.

  32. That play where McGonigle went to 2nd base (and ended up scoring) on that throw to 3rd base was a heads up, veteran type-like play. He plays way above his experience and age. Amazing.

  38. immigration is still toxic for the Dems. So here is the thing. Most people believe AI is going to lead to big unemployment. I'm less worried about that - at least long term. Historically, new techs have displaced workers but created more net activity. The best example is mechanization of agriculture. That eliminated the work of a far larger % of the population than AI will, but the Industrial Revolution that came with it easily absorbed all those workers. The thing is, we don't see where the new work is yet, so we tend to take the worst case view. However, short term, one thing that will be worse is the speed of adoption. Things move much faster today so the short term displacement can still be bad. In any case, that real fear over job losses in the economy, whether correct or not, certainly drives a lot of people who are not particularly evil to want immigration to go to/stay at zero. So they may vote against the kind of gratuitous cruelty of this admin, but any reform proposals with things like an expanded H1-B program are not going to go over well in an environment where the predictions are flying that millions of jobs are at risk.
