I didn’t plan on going to any of them because of weather. I’m past the point of being miserable at a game. If it’s under 50 and damp or windy… I am out. -

My third postponement this season. 3 out of 5 games so far. -
A Brit friend of mine claims Reed is his hero.

Sister in law lives there. Went for their wedding and again 4 years ago. Take the canton/Novi/Plymouth area. Multiply by 30. That’s the metro Dallas region. Every road is just miles and miles of subdivisions, new subdivisions, strip malls anchored by Lowe’s or Home Depot or Wal Mart or Costco…. Every mile is another one. Do a 360 and you will see 4 construction cranes.

He had some condition or disorder that makes his voice like that. I don’t remember what it’s called. I don’t care enough about him to look it up. But it’s due to a specific thing.

I'm basing my question simply on reactions I see from Canadian friends in terms of pride. Gord Downie is a good one b/c I remember when he died listening to my Canadian friends at the game (I am surrounded by you) go on and on about it. Like I remember Gordie Howe's funeral being broadcast on CBC, like he was a President. And he's got the new Bridge!

we had a work outing at Nemo's before going to a game and many of us did exactly that. -

The legend was that during the game he walked down the street to whatever was where Casey's pub was and listened on the radio, but I don't think that's true. -
Yes. This is not a path you want to go down.

oh so now I don't feel like crap for not going tonight b/c of weather. Was hoping to see JV tomorrow. -
Damn that sucks.... it's like finding out a celebrity I like is a scientologist. It really skews my viewing.

Is it fair to say that outside of government/military that Gordon and Gordie are Canada's biggest names? In terms of national pride?

I know the legion halls are struggling. Returning vets are not joining. Part of it is simply demographics. Before you had clusters of people living together in cities and the inner ring suburbs. The "boys" wanted a place to go. Now people are scattered all over the place and the need to "get together" is diminished in part by social media. We don't in general gather like we used to socially because we're connected in other ways. That's in all aspects of life. Even 20 years ago I was more likely to just go hang out at a sports bar with friends to watch a playoff game on a big TV. Now I can do that at home and just text everyone or post here. I've only been to legion or VFW halls for funeral or grad parties. We also have a polish and Czech catering hall that I've been to for events and it's very similar in nature. I love those places. The paneled walls.. cheap beer in the small glasses.

Ohio got kind of a big head there....

I think any company that tells you your house is worth $$$ should legally be required to buy it from you for that price if you wish.... kind of like what Elon did with Twitter. Xfinity's app is the same way. Before I could just go there and do a reboot of something. Quickly. Now with the "better app" it seems like all it does is try to get me to buy more internet or security. In order to do anything or get any info, you have to basically use the AI chat tool.

Once we hit 2020 I have to do mental gymnastics to figure out what year it was if someone throws out something like “37 years ago….” if you tell me 30 years ago I think 1979. Not…. Freaking college!!!

I’m tired of apps for companies making this transition from a utility to just pay my bill or get support to something being used to sell me services. The latest is my mortgage. Before I can get to payment options they keep pushing me to refinance or telling me how valuable my home is if I want to sell.

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2023/05/01/annex-nightclub-shooting-downtown-detroit-nightclub/70170431007/ This nightclub is basically across the street from Comerica Park. A block or so down from Brass Rail. I used to walk by it after every game before changing my parking situation when going to games. Sometimes on Friday people will be lined up to get in, there's always loud cars in the street, a big crowd gathering. People coming while others are leaving the game. Throw in what's happened in Greektown. With some big events coming to downtown this is something the city will need to jump on and get a head start. Greektown is not what it used to be. I hate blaming "nightclubs" because it sounds like something an old person would say but activities that start later in the evening and center around alcohol often don't end up well. But you also don't see this happening at Harry's or Bookie's or the other bars. Something about a "nightclub" draws people prone to fighting and shooting. We had issues like this in Dearborn about 10 years ago where two bars, that no longer exist, would advertise these late night parties with DJ's and every weekend there incidents late at night. The city finally took away their liquor licenses and some other thing that allowed them to host parties. Ford bought the buildings and built Wagner Place. We went to Greektown one summer evening a few years ago and it was surprising the change. Cars speeding around. People were yelling at each other all the time. Not quite a family atmosphere. It used to be Greektown was the only place you could go. Now it's the last.

part of it is the transition from black and white to color.... I think. I was born in '73. For me history was often judged that way. Looking through old photo albums it seemed like most anything before me was black and white and with me was color, give or take a few years. Also with regard to 9/11.... it seems more current to us because we're still fighting "that war" in some regard, or we were until we left Aghanistan. 9/11 and Iraq/Afghanistan are linked and were a 20 year incident. Time runs together.

Regarding Miggy and sales. It’s not a direct correlation but a tool to promote the team. Like Coke advertising. Everyone know it’s there. Nobody sees a ad and runs to the store. Keep the brand out there so that people are encouraged to go even if he’s not the precise reason. By constantly seeing the ads a family might decide to book a game this summer instead of doing something else. And when they do announce a final game if it’s before the end I bet we see an increase. I just checked for 4 on Oct 1. Got 89 results. Checked Sep 12 and had 186 results. So I think that’s some evidence -
Well since he's an "illegal" then those aren't god given. That only applies to 'Muricans. Not Mexicans.

the weather is going to be ****ty. They are school nights. Games start at 6:40.... I don't think those starts will have any impact on sales. I have tickets tomorrow and could exchange some for Wed and I don't feel like doing it b/c of the weather. I'm over watching crappy teams in crappy weather. I can go to more games in the summer when it's nice out. -
