papalawrence Posted May 30 Posted May 30 While Liranzo may drop in prospect rankings, Briceno is going to rise. OPS is now at .992, and this following his crazy AZ Fall league Quote
SoCalTiger Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Seems like lots of talent in the minor leagues. Next years rule 5 is going to be a headache for Harris. It could force some trades of the 15 or below minor leaguers and guys like Badoo, Rogers, Perez , manning, Lange, Brebbia, Owens , Mattison, Compos,Hinklen, Malloy and even Jung. We could be buyers and sellers at the deadline. 1 Quote

IdahoBert Posted May 30 Posted May 30 I’ve got this memory of players jumping from AA to the big clubs with more frequency than now. AAA now seems pretty much only for real prospects, and that a career minor leaguer like Mike Hessman simply couldn’t happen now. Did there used to be guys in their late 20s hanging out in AAA in the hopes that somebody could get injured on the big club and they’d be called up for a month or two and get a real payday? What changed? I asked AI this question and got an answer, but I’d like to know what real people I respect think about this. Quote

I would guess the elimination of MiLB bottom rungs has widened the gaps between the remaining levels - the net effect being AA is now further from the Majors than it used to be. 1 Quote

Arlington Posted May 31 Posted May 31 I'd prefer to see prospects make established players expendable. Once you start winning you can't draw as much talent from the draft or the international market. Quote
Cruzer1 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Liranzo is very young for AA, and he's very talented. He has plenty of time. Quote
1776 Posted May 31 Posted May 31 In Cobb’s start last night he went two innings. He gave up one hit while striking out three batters. without issuing a walk. Over 24 pitches, 16 were strikes. Not a bad first time out.. 1 Quote
Shinzaki Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Briceno is our best power prospect since....I dont even know Quote

So far Briceno's hasn't been bad. I guess Torkelson did combine for 30 across three MiLB stops in '21 but the minors were such a mess after COVID. Edited May 31 by gehringer_2 Quote

A guy like Badooo a 4 a type player? eveyr team has two nobody is going to be rushing to take our version. And rule 5 guys, there is a reason why few hit and most come back, they weren't worth protectnig to start with. Quote

To count on them over a an established player send you quicker to the cellar. Its part of the natural cylce, get good, add more experienced guys. Ride the wave, hopefully win something, then get bad and add more. Almost no team in the history of the game has won for an extended stretch with just their own guys. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Doesn’t the core of your team need to be home grown? I understand adding missing elements but don’t you need a base to add to ? Quote
RandyMarsh Posted May 31 Posted May 31 1 hour ago, SoCalTiger said: Doesn’t the core of your team need to be home grown? I understand adding missing elements but don’t you need a base to add to ? I think it either has to be home grown or players acquired through trades via home grown players. You can't expect to build a team via free agency. Quote
RatkoVarda Posted May 31 Posted May 31 serious question: do Sweeney, Malloy and Olson count as home grown? Quote
holygoat Posted May 31 Posted May 31 9 minutes ago, RatkoVarda said: serious question: do Sweeney, Malloy and Olson count as home grown? My personal metric for prospects acquired via trade is if they enter your system below AAA, they're homegrown if they make it to the big club. So yes on Olson, no on Malloy and Sweeney for me. Quote
RatkoVarda Posted May 31 Posted May 31 I'll say Vest is homegrown even they they "acquired" him from Seattle. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Hao-Yu Lee has quietly had a pretty incredible May. .326 BA, .421 OBP and .910 OPS. We don't have a spot for him here, but if something opened up with an injury to an infielder, Goodbye Kreidler, give this guy a shot. Quote

I read somewhere his fielding at third base is still quite poor so that's probably what's holding him back at this point. If true . Quote
