The Red Sox just fired Alex Cora and almost all of his coaching staff. Chad Tracy has been promoted for Worcester to Boston as interim manager. John Henry and the Fenway Group definitely have the money to convince Hinch to leave the Tigers.

Wow, that didn't take long.

He’s under contract.  Next?

Yeah, he literally just signed an extension last year. I don't know who the BoSox are gonna replace Cora with, but I know it's not gonna be AJ Hinch.

They're gonna replace him with Chad Tracy, who will get them playing better and get an extention.   Like Don Kelly.

Are you more like afraid A.J. Is going to quit his multi-year contract and leave his two-time playoff team well into fulfilling its plans to become a perennial contender, with some of the best young players in the game due to join the roster in the next few years? Or are you more like hoping A.J. is going to leave?

There is no reason to think Hinch wants to go anywhere, but the truth is that if he did, it wouldn't do much good to try to hold him to his contract and have him sit around without his heart in his job. Contracts on that kind of talent - artistic talent if you will, are of pretty limited value if they really want out. Another game would be the Sox (e.g.) could offer a title bump - "manager/GM" for example, for which there is probably an out in most managerial contracts - didn't we get Harris that way in fact?

Or they could just trade Hinch.

I'm going to go out on a limb and just declare that Hinch's heart is in his job here.

Setting aside that he's under contract, while the Boston name has a lot of prestige, the organization itself looks like a dumpster fire right now.

This is a better team and a better job at this point in time. He'd be crazy to leave for that job

You joke, but that's the only way this could actually happen. Lou Piniella (Mariners to Rays) and John Farrell (Blue Jays to Red Sox) come to mind.

I heard that John Henry is also planning on buying Kevin McGonigle from the Tigers.  Apparently he has that much money that he can convince the Tigers to sell him for cash.

I want Babe Ruth...do they still have that guy ?

Then Chris Ilitch will use the money to finance a new show that will be featured at the Fox Theatre, called Lately My Friends, which will be about Chris, several City of Detroit officials, and several from the State, all of whom end up at a condo in The District Detroit™ with hilarious consequences.

I guess money is the only consideration ever and always to some people … I don’t know if it is to Hinch.

It's not the only consideration, but it can be a big one. But beyond just salary, there's the offer of a higher payroll.

The Phillies just fired Rob Thomson. Donnie “Baseball except when it’s the World Series” Mattingly has been promoted as interim manager. John Middleton definitely has the money to convince Hinch to leave the Tigers.

Is the Red Sox payroll higher than Detroit this year?

To answer my own question, Detroit’s payroll is $13 mil higher according to Sportrac

I saw a tweet that Alex Cora was just offered the Phillies job, but I don’t know how seriously to take that.
