No that was Schefter, while Harbaugh was literally in the plane on the way to A2, who claimed it wasn’t a done deal.

Schefter was on the weirdest broadcast since 9/11 when Damar Hamlin had to be resuscitated.  I think he and Suze Kolber were both dumbstruck and it took a person named Booger Macfarlan to actually talk them back to lucidity.    I marvel at that because a grown man is going by Booger and he's actually pretty cogent.

ESPN making Schefter do commentary and analysis is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. He has built contacts and relationships to be 1a or 1b with Rapoport for breaking stories in the NFL. They should let him do what he does well, and stop making him do more.

Per reporting, it's the UMPD investigating (which seems to be very busy lately), not the FBI, Washtenaw County Sheriff, or AAPD, which is probably an encouraging sign for Weiss as to the severity of whatever he's accused of doing. I can't imagine UMPD has a devoted computer crimes division and I would think they would pass along or coordinate high crime investigations of that sort to larger departments. Maybe not but just my thought.

"Computer access crime" could be literally anything though. Using someone else's account without their permission... Hacking university files/databases... Crypto-mining, as was mentioned... Telling DoorDash that your order didn't arrive when it actually did... Literally anything.

At the U there are IT policies you can violate, which would put you at risk of Univeristy sanctions, and then of course there are crimes. Something that got elevated from ITS (internal IT) to UMDPSS would seem to be on crimey side but there could be some grey areas - for instance if you used a U account in some way that was an alleged Title IX violation I could see that ending up at UMDPSS.

All we know right now on the Matt Weiss police investigation (MaizeNBrew)

Quote

This took place between Dec. 21-23 inside Schembechler Hall — leading up to the College Football Playoff semifinal against TCU — according to a statement from U-M police chief Crystal James obtained by ESPN.

According to the University of Michigan police filing, “An employee reported fraudulent activity involving someone accessing university emails accounts without authorization. Upon further investigation, it was found that a crime may have been committed.”

Meaning: Somebody inside Schembechler Hall who works with Weiss found out what had been happening and reported it to the police (or perhaps to their boss first, and then later on to the police).

“I am aware of the ongoing investigation by the University of Michigan Police Department and fully cooperating with investigators,”: Weiss said in a statement to ESPN. “I look forward to the matter being resolved. Out of respect for the integrity of the investigation, I will not have any further comment.”

This incident was officially filed as a U-M police matter on Jan. 5 at 12:44 p.m.

He probably used a department computer to send an email to other coaches promoting the idea of running a trick play the first time Michigan was down near the goal line vs TCU. Lock him up.

Some sort of powerplay.  The forces of Sherrone Moore are decapitating Weiss.  They should know that Weiss' operatives will avenge him and that some of those operatives are Vulcans.

You're saying Moore is fighting against the supremacy of Weiss Power?

It's got to be fairly bad if they were searching his house.

Computer crimes................doesn't necessarily mean kiddie porn.............Any porn on a work computer would get most people in trouble.   Could it have been gambling related?   Was he using work computers to gamble.  Was he trying to buy drugs online?

I don't do anything that isn't work-related on my work computer.  I've know someone that was fired for using a work computer to print out betting slips for College & NFL games for the office pool.   (One of our stations is the Ann Arbor affiliate for U of M football and gambling was not legal yet).     If he hadn't used office equipment to print it, he would not have been fired.

If the report is half accurate, it says someone was hacking into other people's e-mail. What would you do with access to someone else's e-mail? Maybe steal various account credentials there? Doesn't seem to make much sense that an assistant FB coach would be involved in relatively low level larceny though - they are pretty well paid, so I have no other immediate guess.
