  1. Yes, you will be frustrated when Javier Baez sometimes swings and misses a pitch by literally two feet. You will be frustrated by his high strikeout rate and low walk rate and the occasional cold streak. You may even be frustrated by his periodic loose cannon behavior. Assuming, of course, A.J. and his college of coaches don't somehow get to him on all this. What you won't be frustrated with is Javy's defense in the most important position facing the batter. You won't be frustrated by his excellent range, by his acrobatics, by his instincts, and by his otherworldly tag skills. Remember how good a shortstop we all thought Jose Iglesias was when he was here? Well, Baez every day >>>> Iglesias on his best day. You won't be frustrated by Javy's baserunning. You've never seen a guy slide into a bag and evade a tag like Javier Baez, except when you have seen Twitter video of Baez himself making such slides. Now you will get to see them every day, and sometimes live at the ballpark. You won't be frustrated by Javy's hot streaks which, when he has them—and he will have them—makes him as good a hitter as anyone in the major leagues. How would you like a shortstop with plus-D capable of hitting .339/.372/.629 while jacking 16 bombs and swiping a dozen bags? Javier Baez has been that kind of hitter: he did it in 2018 over a stretch of seventy-three games. What? Too long ago to matter anymore? OK, how about .297/.361/.523 with 15 bombs and nine bags? Will that do? Because that's how he hit in the final 73 games of this season. But most of all, you won't be frustrated by the pure joy Javy radiates by just being on the field flashing the incredible skills he has in the service of helping the Detroit Tigers—that team we all grew up loving through thick and thin and thin and thin—win ballgames. Javy is going to put at least one involuntary broad smile on your face just about every game he plays for the Tigers, starting this year. I said it before, and I'm going to say it again: You're gonna love watching Javier Baez, Detroit Tiger. I guarantee it.

  3. The 7 is next to the 6. I've made that mistake a bunch and twitter doesn't let you correct. Also bowden is an idiot so he might just not know the difference between a 6 and a 7.

  4. Disappointed in the lack of loyalty and dedication many on this board showed by not staying up past 1am ET until this news broke. Mr. Al Avila is up into the wee hours fighting hard for his fanbase and you guys are all snug in bed having sweet dreams.

  5. I hate all of you for putting me in the position to defend Avila, but we were celebrating that he had struck quickly to address C and SP. We really don’t know where negotiations are with many players who are still out there. The frenzy over the last two days makes it seem like we’re being left behind, but that may not be the case. I won’t say “trust in Al” (ever), but we shouldn’t despair either.

  8. I started out a Vikings fan. LOVED Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman & the Purple People Eaters D. Then Gary Danielson came to my hometown one year, hung out all afternoon with me & my neighborhood friends, played catch & signed footballs for us. If I ever see Gary Danielson again, I'm gonna punch him right in the mouth.

  11. Thoughts and prayers aren't going to cut it. But I'm sure we'll get lots of bullshit, empty calls for thoughts and prayers and talk about how it's "too early to talk about political action" and how "democrats are trying to politicize another mass shooting." Fuck off to any politician who says that.

  16. This franchise is technically overpaying their new catcher, but it filled a need with a competent major leaguer. If they don't, at a minimum, do something similar at their position of biggest need coming into the offseason, yeah, we'd all be right to be pissed. As for Ryan Kreidler, let him have a few more months in Toledo before throwing him to the wolves.

  18. We will need a 3rd (and probably a 4th) catcher. Those guys get banged up.

  20. My wife's Pilot has lights that are quite bright at the "regular" level. We regularly get "flashed" by other vehicles when just the regular lights are on. I then flash them back with the brights to say "Oh you think that's bad? Try this!".

  21. I posted somewhere waaaay up thread that I saw a scouting report from 2018 that rated Schoop and Baez as the two fastest DP turns in the majors. I'm hoping to see a lot fewer DPs missed by half a step - assuming Hinch will leave Schoop at 2B. (and of course hopefully Torkelson takes care of that issue...)

  22. I know people would like to use the Baez savings on another rotation piece, but I wouldn't mind seeing them pick up a premier backend bullpen arm, either instead or as well. Thinking maybe McHugh, Knebel, Tepera, or as someone mentioned earlier, maybe Chafin. Or, if we really want to make a splash, how about going to the top of that market for Raisel Iglesias? I could be talked into 3/30 for that guy. I know we have Soto and Cisnero at the back of the pen now, and they were probably good enough for a 77-win team. But are those the guys we would want to come in late in a game well into October? Especially if they're gonna walk one out of every seven or eight guys they face? I'm thinking, if we were to make a move like this to lock down the back of that pen, then I'd know that this organization is serious about 2022.

  30. This is bound to frustrate the OSU fanbase even more. They know the entire Ohio State operation is a machine caked in blood that feeds on the flesh of their workers. Ryan Day would sell his own mother if he would net him more strippers and more blow.

  32. As for the SP, using MLB trade rumors as a gauge, the prediction for Stroman is 5/$110M. They had Gausman at 6/$138M and he got 5/$110M. They had Ray at 5/$130M and he got 5/$115M with an opt out. They had Scherzer at 3/$120M and he got 3/$130M with an opt out from a jilted drunken sailor at closing time. Kick the tires on Stroman.

  36. The fact that he thinks riding with Kreidler in 2022 is acceptable seems nuts to me.... If they fail to get one of the three big names, they should go get a Paul DeJong or someone else on trade. Just seems risky and bound to fail to send Kreidler out there on day one. I'll still be pissed either way. But at least it won't be gross negligence.

Just a few months ago she was playing with crayons and putting posters outside her office to mock her fellow constituents. This is a big deal for her, regardless of how stupid the bill itself is!
