  2. You're welcome! You're right next door for Pete's sake, pretty hard to ignore, and an extremely negative influence on the number of illegal guns in this country. If one has to be a citizen of a country in order to criticize it, let me know when you become Chinese.

  4. You're playing my song. How many years have you guys heard me advocating the idea that deadening the ball will solve practically every problem in the game that has evolved since Chicks Dig The Long Ball started? The reason is simple: pitchers are afraid of giving up home runs. So pitchers have to be super careful to every hitter in the order, because every hitter can take them out of the park. They are trying to induce swing-and-miss on every pitch with maximum velocity and movement, so they end up throwing more pitches per plate appearance and taking more time in between pitches to maximize the gathering of their strength. That might be layering an extra half hour onto game time all by itself. But batters are still trying to jack the ball, which means they're always trying to pull it over the fence, so the shift makes sense to employ on most hitters. Deaden the ball to 1980s-level, and you'll have fewer homers, which means pitchers can pitch to contact, which means batters would need to hit 'em where they ain't instead of hit 'em over their heads, which will eliminate the shift on all but the scariest power hitters. there would be fewer homers, fewer strikeouts, more balls in play, more action on batted balls. I bet fans would come back to see that.

  5. i remember an experiment done not so long ago from a game in the 80s and a game in the 10s to see why the game in the 10s was taking an hour longer. the finding was that it was almost exclusively due to pitching changes and the time in between pitches. advertising has always existed. go back and watch a game from the 60s or 70s. get ball pitch ball. get in the box and stay there. its a remarkably faster game and much easier to watch.

  6. gambling has been a major part of all international sports forever. the recent scandals of people throwing games have been before gambling was legalized in american sports. this is like complaining that players are going to smoke the majijuana now that its legal. drugs will ruin the game! put your pearls away, legalized gambling has no effect on the product on the field now matter how much your strain your arguments to make it seem like it does. legalized gambling is good for the sports because it drives interest and increases revenues.

  8. All of these reasons you give for your interest waning in the game are good and valid. To me, they pale against the big reason my interest in the game is in real jeopardy: the integration of gambling into the very fabric of the game. From showing odds and money lines on the MLB Network crawl, to programs about betting on that and many baseball team RSNs,to gambling-related drop-ins on radio and TV game broadcasts, and the eventuality of seeing sportsbooks physically erected within stadiums, the suddenness with which Bsseball has chased after the gambling buck has been breathtaking and appalling. I honestly fear what that might do to the competitive integrity of the game.

  9. Wow, you hit the nail on the head with people right here on this site. There are posters here that are not from the US that post negative things about the US, its policies and elected officials and other posters slap them on the back and agree with them.

  11. They're in a nice spot...trade back for assets (with their first or the Rams) or stay put and pick up three of the top 34 guys on your board. This is the draft that could make Brad Holmes a Made Man in Detroit sports. My hopes...stay put with Thibodeaux or Hutchinson, a WR with the Rams pick and then look at LB and DB

  12. I think he at least proved he is a legit NFL head coach. He had some rookie missteps but overall he did a very good job IMO. Probably the most encouraging thing was when he saw the offense failing under Lynn he: 1 had the stones to replace the veteran OC and not create a distraction 2 had the ability to correct the problem himself We'll find out if he can lead a team to the playoffs and win but so far so good.

  13. Mucinex does okay at clearing sinuses. Vapo Rub and Vapo Steam don't do much (maybe psychologically)...I love the smell of Vicks Vapo Rub and use it on dry skin (elbows, feet). But NOTHING is better at clearing sinuses, at least for 5 minutes than this...

  15. I like it! The guy was one of the most careful (in a smart way), cerebral and thoughtful players on the ice to ever play the game. Hopefully that thoughtful nature translate over well to the front office. He seem like the type of guy that would excel in a player development or scouting type role.

  19. two issues - one is that stars move around too much so their idea as belonging a certain context with a certain team can't get as well established, and secondarily, you have a big slice of the best players in an English speaking country whose 1st language is Spanish. Look at Cabrera - he loves to talk to the press - the Spanish speaking press. Given his personality he would be much bigger local celebrity figure and that would perculate outward - if he did his media work in English. The why's get complicated but the outcomes are what they are.

  20. You are looking way too deeply into this. It's a drop from #1 to #2 in a draft with no true #1 prospect and as I mentioned before, arguably their 3 best players in franchise history were drafted at 2,2 and 3 so the difference is negligible. Yeah, this also drops them 1 spot in every other round that they have a pick but so what, they shouldn't need to be 1 pick higher if they have good scouting. In any event, I'm enjoying watching the wins of an enthusiastic young team playing for an enthusiastic young coach. It's been such a miserable 3 seasons prior to this one so it's nice to see my favorite team enjoy playing football again. I think it bodes well going forward that they're competing against much more talented teams and winning some of these games with an undermanned group. You think it means nothing, I think it means something. We'll just have to agree to disagree then.

  21. It would be a grading system of sorts....like if you are projected to go in the 4th or 5th round in the NFL...is that going to make you more than a first rounder in the USFL? Will you get more playing time in the USFL? Will that give you a chance to showcase your talent and maybe make the jump to the NFL better than actually being on the team, but never playing? So if the NFL draft is first and you are sitting there and drop to the 4th or 5th round before being sleected...do you decline that selection and go in the first round of the USFL? Maybe the money is still less, but you are pretty much guaranteed to play every game...

  22. While I agree that a NFL "minor league" could work, honestly the NFL doesn't need it. Colleges provide an excellent avenue for teams to be able to watch players develop without any of the risks of paying a big contract for a guy who ends up a bust after a few years in the minors or has a career ending injury. I supposed one possibility is for NFL teams to put in long shot type players and have the team pay their salary. Maybe even expand the draft for another round, expand the practice squad and allow NFL teams to put as many practice squad players as they want into the USFL. NFL teams would need to pay these players the USFL salary on top of the NFL practice squad pay, but any player who played in the USFL gets protection for the up coming year... sort of a "restricted" practice squad where a team can choose to reject another teams attempt to sign a practice squad player, but then must double that players salary for the remainder of the season. The other options is to target the guys who are first or second year college players who want to make money now rather than wait until they are eligible for the NFL. But how many good players are they going to be able to find who fit in this category?

  23. Why don’t all these spoiled NFL players just accept that they aren’t playing for their own success, integrity, and pride, they are playing for the fans who want to win draft night. Those jerks. Wanting to win for themselves and their teammates. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  25. ......and don't forget Obama's Tornado Machine. I have been mildly sick since Friday. Runny nose, lots of coughing (dry, nothing comes up) and my throat is raw, not really sore, but raw from all the coughing and throat clearing. Haven't been able to sleep well the last few days. I don't feel that bad, but I am very tired and annoyed. I went to a facility to get a test today. It was on the east side of Detroit because it was the only place I could get a same-day. Scheduled for 12:30, but I knew I would not be seen by 12:30, and yes there was a line. About 15 ahead of me. It took awhile but everyone kind of realized that it would, they expected it, but then..........you know who showed up, right......KAREN ! KAREN has an appointment for 1pm (it was 1:05) and Karen didn't think she should have to wait in line. EVERYONE had a timed appointment. But no, she started making demands that she is seen next. Everyone just kind of rolled their eyes, but I can tell you this, there is no way she was jumping the queue today. The aggravating part is her 10 minutes of Karening slowed everything down, but the funny part is that in the time she stood there doing her thing about 10 or 12 people came in and got in line......go to the back of the line........LOL. She was still there when I left about 1:45, about 10-15 people ahead of her. Everyone was chill about. it.........except her.

  29. We could have had the #1 pick for the last 60 years. It's either win the Super Bowl or tank. Make a total mockery of the whole league. Every non-contending team trying to lose every week. That sounds like a good way to destroy the league.

  32. Any team that throws a game just to draft 1 instead of 2 will never win even if they get the 1st pick. There is still a great chance the Lions will get the player they want. If they don't, they will get a very good player. There is more than one player in this draft. Players don't care about draft position. They go out to win. If they see management purposely trying to lose a game for draft position, you will lose the locker room.

  33. They hooked us when they named the team the “Detroit” Tigers. If they were the Little Caesars Tigers, or had been the Dominos Tigers or the Fetzer Broadcasting Tigers while we were growing up, maybe we wouldn’t care so much about them.

  34. Very well put. I under estimated how crucial commonly held mythologies are to a society until relatively recently. If they don't get their act together they'll be creating new mythologies that don't benefit the game. Given the unquantifiability of myth, I have my doubts it has any chance to outweigh money.
