  1. If Hinch got more out of this god awful team last year, why isn't he doing it this year? Have you considered that explaining the Tigers situation away on luck (both their success last year and failure this year) kinda undermines the whole point that all of the Tigers success last year is because of AJ Hinch? Again, people want to have it both ways and it doesn't work.

  2. I'll watch Tiger baseball until the fall. Watch Miggy make his case for The Hall. Sweating the months with the boys of summer. If they don't contend, it will be a bummer.

  3. Unfortunately there isn't much to do until the hitters wake up except trying to keep players like Hasse , Willie C, Harold C from losing games defensively which is why I would send them all down ASAP for Garneau, Short and Reyes ( when ready). I want solid defense when we substitute s starter. We have lost about four games defensively this season already. No reason for that with better defenders in the system and the current bench players can not field OR hit. I would stick with Torkelson and give him time to adjust which makes it hard to promote Clemens from AAA but I doubt he is a major league player anyway. Miggy is blocking him making it difficult to audition players like Clemens as he holds a roster spot on reputation only. It's going to be an increasingly difficult situation that is over the head of Al's ability.

  4. Right. Given how many actual families actually have to deal with this problem in their lives, it's kind of offensive to see unproven claims of dementia be weaponized like this. And MAGA land will never understand that there are ways of criticizing this administration that don't go over the line like this.

  5. Happy Limerick Day In Al and Hinch we placed our trust A winning season was a must But with Willi in center And the offense a pretender We're left watching everyone's dust

  7. I didn't realize it when watching it but somebody on my twitter feed made a great observation about why Gus reacted the way he did at the register. To me I just thought it was to show how his mind was completely elsewhere but in reality it was to show that after asking the guy if he wanted to try their new "Spicy Curls" is when he had his "a ha moment" about where Lalo is heading. The spicy curls was what he featured to the parent company in Germany a season or 2 back when him and all the other owners were talking about what they were thinking of adding to their respective menus.

  9. All I can say is that every ex-player who looks at a slumping team will always say - "they are pressing and you can't play when you are pressing". As counter intuitive as it may seem the most important thing Hinch can do as a manager is find a way to get the guys to take it less seriously. You see a sullen bench right now and that needs to be Hinch's job 1.

  14. this was always a developmental season. the season is boring so far because tork has been predictably overmatched, greene is hurt, mize and manning are hurt. skubal is the only real reason to watch now that miggy has 3000/500/600. when the rookies come back, there will be another reason to watch. the regulars arent going to be this bad all season. guys like candy and grossman and baez will get hot. baez is gonna have two weeks where he hits 400 and slugs 600.

  15. Lost 4 of 5 at home against a team that is literally having a fire sale and is basically trotting out a minor league roster. Oh, and the only actual potential MLB starting position player AL has drafted that is on the team in Tork, is on the cusp of getting sent back down. Give that man an extension!

  16. No sure it gets worse, but I doubt it gets better. Three at home vs Baltimore, which is much improved. Then they go to TB, before 48 straight against Cleveland and Minnesota

  17. How do you know their record last year was because of Hinch? Teams get luckly and have random good years all the time. It's not like it's trending into this year.

  25. With the pitching we were getting, our record shouldn't be this bad. I don't think many people thought our hitting would be this bad. Where's the power?

  27. Agreed, he needs to be evaluated on managing the pitching staff, managing the clubhouse, and motivating the players. I don't see that he is above replacement level in any of those.

  28. Realistically the best case scenario is we end up about where we did last year. While disappointed I would be OK with that if it came with guys like Tork, Greene, Mize, Manning, Skubal etc. looking good on the way there. Like I'd rather finish with 60 some wins and those guys play very well but we lose do to cast offs or bullpen failure than win mid to upper 70s but those guys look bad but we win thanks to our AAAA guys or dudes like Schoop and Grossman who aren't going to be here for the future.

  29. is this season already done, we can't even score a run as the hitters make outs whilst the motown forum board pouts and the summer hasn't even begun

  30. And they are doing it without the genius AJ Hinch! They are on pace to win 100 games with some old recycled manager.

  31. Really not interested in Brunson. Can you imagine a lineup of Cade, Brunson, Bey, Paolo, and Stewart? That will easily be the least athletic lineup in the entire NBA. On top of the lack of athleticism, I've been watching Brunson in the playoffs and he looks more like a sixth man of the year candidate to me. The kind of guy you bring off of your bench, give him the ball, and let him go to work while everyone else stands around watching him on offense, because he doesn't bring much else and isn't an off the ball player. Only 17% of his shots were catch and shoot. 29% of his shots come off of 7+ dribbles and another 34% come off of 3-6 dribbles. He pounds the the ball and creates offense for himself. Great for the Mav's "your turn, my turn" offensive system...and probably something Casey would love since that's his offensive scheme as well (see Toronto), but not what I want to see for this team. On top of that, it seems like they want to be a switch everything defensive team like Boston and Miami. Ok, but you have to have switchable personnel for that scheme to work. We saw how bad that was with a tiny guy like CoJo last year - teams just targeted him every time down the court - and Brunson is 2" shorter. I just don't see how paying him 25M a year is going to help this team be better. If we don't land Jabari, I really hope we wind up with one of the athletic guards (Sharpe, Ivey, Mathurin) so we don't feel compelled to pursue Brunson. Of course, from what JEIII has been saying the organization is really high on Murray, so even if we fall out of the top 3, we may wind up taking Murray over one of those guards anyway.

  33. correct, either of a couple guys hitting the ball out of the park down on Monroe street? No need for any of that! Seriously though, Hinch's total obsession with having total pitching match-up flexibility when his team is being shut out every other night and he can't give the relievers he has enough work to be sharp, has become beyond baffling.

  40. The Tigers just need to win one of the their next two games to have a better record than their horrible start from last year. And then win 9 of their next 11 to keep pace.

  41. It's frustrating as hell but short of making small moves like calling up Clemens I really don't know what we can do. Yeah we could fire Avila but that isn't going to fix the team right now. Aside from Skubal any of our potential trade assets we'd be selling low so we can't do that, really it seems all we can do is just ride it out and hope that the guys start hitting.
