  1. so Baltimore sells high on a guy having a career year, who may never be this good again. that's how its done Al.

  2. that doesn't work by the way.... I saw a thing on it "don't put too man onions" "I didn't put too many onions Paul... just 3 small onions" "Aw you gotta have the pork... that's the flavor" Part of me thinks Scorsese just put a bunch of old Italians in the room and told them to cook and set up his cameras and filmed.

  5. Yes my expectations were low, but not quite that low.

  6. If I watch ten Tigers games and you watch just one, who is more likely to see at least one Tigers victory?

  7. Al really is in a no-win situation. One that he put himself in.

  8. It's probably more important to have a "proven closer" with the right mentality than a bunch of prospects at far more valuable and difficult to fill positions. When you're a team with like five good relievers and limited talent everywhere else, you make the smart play: build through the part of the team that is only useful if the other (terrible) parts won the first six innings. Whoa, I think I briefly used latent psychic powers to channel Al Avila's id for a moment there. Seriously, they basically have to trade at least a couple of them, and the longer it takes the more concerned I become.

  9. As we all know, he used a razor and he used to slice the garlic so thin that it would liquefy in the pan with just a little oil. It was a very good system

  11. Interesting little nugget there. Look, the fact that Avila got anything for Grossman is a minor win. Maybe the kid needs another organization to figure things out, maybe he never becomes anything anyway. Whichever way it ends up, trading away 2+ months of 2022 Grossman for a random minor leaguer is fine.

  12. word order in English is important. Skubal really came to the dugout after the screw-up at 2b and said "I'm tired of this shit". Hinch thought he said, "Shit, I'm tired", and took him out.

  14. I have nothing against Sawyer Gipson-Long and wish him success in this org. At the very least, that side of the house has Fetter and Co, so maybe they can fix him or turn him into something The ire should be directed at the General Manager. Who had multiple opportunities during past seasons to get more for Fulmer than he did today.

  15. How much you wanna bet Fulmer pitches an immaculate inning against us tonight?

  18. And all they got was a pitcher with three last names.

  19. A 24 year old pitcher in AA who has an ERA north of 7. I think I would have rather just kept Fulmer.

  20. And I suppose I’d be remiss if I didn’t add my own Italian marinara sauce recipe here in this thread since that seems to be a side stream here. mince and slice some garlic cloves, and very lightly sauté them in a good quality olive oil in the bottom of your pan. Make sure the light on your gas stove isn’t too high, you don’t want the garlic to brown. Add a large can of crushed tomatoes a good quality. If you can find MUTTI, they’re honestly the best. At about 7-8 basil leaves, (chiffonade) - lower the flame, and simmer the marinara sauce for maybe about 10 minutes. Linguine works best with this tomato sauce. Add a small teaspoon or so of locatelli grated cheese on top.

  22. That is his reputation. They wait till the last minute and settle for scraps. We know Chris is a mark at this point. I would hope he has a friend who can tell him how underwater this organization is.

  23. ???? The probabilities across multiple years would sum by roughly a binomial dist. If you have a 1/12 chance of winning and go to the playoffs 10 times, your odds of winning at least one are ~60%. Binomial is probably not the best approx for that low a single event probability, but that should be in the ballpark. https://stattrek.com/online-calculator/binomial Lee can probably generate a better approx.

  24. See, now in the old days, the Republican President of the Arizona Senate would pay for this garbage with their career, because nobody put up with such unserious nonsense at one time. This Karen, though? She's gonna fundraise off it. You watch.

  25. Yes we are really missing opportunities with Al. It seems he is always thinking job preservation above aggressively building a winning team. He really needs to go. The entire league has passed him by. Look what the Orioles got for Lopez. A waiver wire pick up they traded for real prospects first chance they got. Not Al.

  26. Blue Jays asked about Grossman last year when he was producing like he never had before. No idea what they offered but safe to assume it would have been a better return last year. Same for Cisnero, who was great the first half last year and there were some rumors about him. Same with Fulmer years ago. Same with never traded Boyd. Nothing for JD and JV. Complete opposite of DD who constantly turned crap into gold.

  27. IMHO, maybe Fulmer and/or perhaps Chafin could be dealt. However, I would like the Tigs to try to get a position player that can help soon. The Tigs may need to add a prospect or two to sweeten the pot. AA overvalues prospects. How many position players have we developed over the last several years - despite what 5-7 years of drafting under this regime! Simply an example, if the Tigs like 3B/1B MVientos of the NYM, and they like Fulmer and/or Chafin, agree on 1-2 prospects from our system and get it done. Maybe C SCampusano of SD, etc. The Twins get it. They just gave the O's 4 young players for their closer. IMHO, they have a chance to perhaps get a young position player 'now' as teams do want 'bullpen help' this time of the year more than ever... add what needs to be to the RP package and get a player who is on the cusp and perhaps blocked at their respective position on a contending team. If this regime cannot do this, then someone needs to look at the GM and more and make a decision!!

  29. One guy got 7 1/4 years. His own son turned him in and warned the FBI about about him BEFORE January 6th happened. He said in an interview that his dad had anger issues and Trump set him totally over the edge and broke him. Broke him. I can't understand how people can't see through that bastard. I saw through him in the 80s when he was just a New York loudmouth attention whore.

  31. I believe the science. But I think the real culprits in the zipper merge are not the people who drive up to the end. It's the people in the other lanes who keep switching because "That one's moving". Then that lane stops and the other starts moving and then they move back. Just stay where you are and it'll work itself out and nobody really gains anything. But that goes back to my point earlier where people are impatient and so afraid that someone else might "get there first".

  34. If there were some way it was actually conceivable to build build a 90+ win team and then tweak it in any such manner that would materially change its probability of winning the WS it wouldn't be, but there isn't.

  36. I have enjoyed many if not most of the last 38 seasons including some of the seasons where they had little chance to win but had some interesting players to follow. My hyperbole was in response to your hyperbole that the Brewers should not be praised for having a good organization the last few years because they haven't won any championships. I think that's ridiculous.

  37. Al is sure to trade him for a team's nineteen year old #2 ranked AA pitching prospect who has had dead arm issues, along with same team's backup AAA catcher who has a case of the jimmy legs.

  43. Fox and ESPN control everything and they have their own deals ironed out independently. CFB really needs a commissioner that can oversee all the conferences and could then bid out the entire package to multiple networks like the NFL.
