  1. I would hope he gets full autonomy to hire and fire anyone he wants in the front office, scouting staff, and coaching staff.

  4. I believe it with the vendors. Their polo shirt game got stronger upon Dombrowski’s arrival.

  5. The record is 5.5, set by the Ravens in 2020. Now get out of here with that negative energy and don't come back until we lose another game! 😉

  6. You can't hire a GM from another organization to be a GM unless they aren't under contract. You can hire them for a higher title. That's behind almost all title creep. Anyways, the GM of the following teams is not the top dog in baseball ops: Brewers, Guardians, Rays, Athletics, Phillies, Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants, Cubs, Twins, Red Sox, Royals Most teams have 3-6 or so AGM's or VP's (in Baseball Ops), with some having as many as 12-15. A lot of AGM/VP's are, again, promoted to keep from being poached. Kevin Goldstein had a segment on this on his nascent podcast between his Astros and Twins job. You really like your player development director? Promote him to Assistant General Manager-Player Development, and he can't be hired as Player Development Director. Anyways, I'm not kidding when I say I deep dived the org charts of all 30 organizations last month. In general, your baseball ops org structure: President, Baseball Ops General Manager Assistant General Manager (Special Assistant is somewhere on this tier. Some are ceremonial, like Horton. Some are doing actual work, like Slater/McLeod/Goldstein) Director Assistant Director Coordinator Manager (Not like AJ Hinch manager. I'm talking in the analytics department, manager is a tier) And from here it depends on the department. There was remarkable standardization on this front. There are also several duel titles on the executive side that some baseball ops people get President Executive Vice President Vice President Did you know Al Avila was EVP? Did you know Menzin, Sartori, Chadd, Bream, and Garko are VP's?

  7. I'm glad they went outside the organization as well. Still surprised they let Al run this last draft.

  8. On a personal note, I sort of know Scott Harris's dad. We were on the same team at Cubs camp in 2020 (just before COVID hit), which Scott had gifted him the prior Christmas. We had a couple of conversations at length and one morning at breakfast he showed me Scott's 2016 Cubs ring, which he'd brought to camp with him. Talk about super impressive. I just dropped him a mazel tov in the email. He's probably got hundreds of people doing the same with him, so who knows if I hear back. But whether he does or doesn't, he's a really good guy, and I'm really happy for him.

  9. you really have to give the oc and the offense credit. they had 2/5 of an oline and were pulling guys off the practice squad and waivers and they put up 30+ on a decent defense. and a defense whose front 4 is its strength (even if they were missing chase young.) it was a helluva showing.

  11. What's even more encouraging is that the offense hasn't been whole yet and several guys are underachieving. They have this dynamic nuclear weapon on the shelf waiting to be used in Jamo then you have guys like Chark and Hockenson who have more to give so there's still big growth potential even beyond what they've done these first two weeks. An offense like this will give them a chance to win most games. As usual in the NFL, most of these games will have razor thin margins that will decide most games but at least the Lions now have the horses, on offense in particular, to compete every week.

  13. This offense could be better. Goff's completion percentage is under 60%. There have been a lot of drops and out of sync with receivers. The offense put up 34 points and Swift only touched the ball 7 times and Chark got 0 catches.

  15. We should see if the Rams want to trade QBs and if they'll throw in some first rounds picks with their QB seeing as how ours is better.

  18. Since I don't believe any of the Monday night Head Coaches are even on a warm seat........ The new rankings. 1 - Frank Reich - Another terrible start. Colts are a good team and they are lucky to only be 1/2 game behind right now, but they have Kansas City next and a big division game vs. Tennessee after that. If they lose both, he could be out. MAY NOT SURVIVE THE SEASON 2. Matt Rhule - Carolina does not seem to be progressing once. I think he's got a little more leash because his QB is new, but just a little more. I think he'll be coaching Auburn next year. MAY NOT SURVIVE THE SEASON 3. Nathaniel Hackett - Yeah, Denver won yesterday, but they are a mess. Russ is 33 and has a shelf life. The Broncos are not going to give a second year to him if he bungles his way through this season. He'll be a one-and-done. PROBABLY SURVIVES THE SEASON 4. Kliff Kingsbury - Arizona got an OT win yesterday and everyone in the West is 1-1 now, so they are starting over. But it's all about the last month. ITS ALL ABOUT DECEMBER 5. Ron Rivera - With a dysfunctional management that has a scandal-ridden front office and a stadium that has raw sewage leak onto fans, it might be a bad look to fire a cancer survivor, but that 2-point decision, down by 8 with all the momentum ranks up there with some really dumb Lions coach decisions (I think of Bobby Ross going for 2, down by 4 late in the game in Arizona.....he should have been fired the next day). Riverboat Ron is in a division that could be won at 9-8 and he kind of broke their backs yesterday. SURVIVES THE SEASON. I don't think anyone else's seat is hot except Arthur Smith (roster is not his fault) and Mike McCarthy (because Sean Payton will be available February 9, 2023)

  20. What a fun day downtown Detroit. First experience at ford field was awesome. Was feeling so good I put $50 bucks on the cardinals at +1200 when they were down 17-0. Covered all my expenses plus some. Fun day. Now do I go to the game In Minnesota next weekend? This team still has some talent holes, but they work. They move. Let’s go win some more.

  23. I like the ones pictured in the game thread. There are Stars' jerseys with the thick blue accent along the buttons in the front going up and around the collar. I know the Tigers have worn those before, and it might be the version that they always use. I'm not a fan of those, but I like simplicity. I really like the hats, both the grey cap and the white cap that have the red star and the blue bill.

  24. Also, Goff has 17 TDs and 2 INTs in his last 7 games. I know the competition hasn't been great but....damn.

  25. I am fine. I am just insanely busy at work and not posting as much, even not a lot baseball posts. Like many people, my investments are not fine, but I tell myself that I am right back where I was in Spring, 2021 and I wasn't unhappy about my investments then. I did pull some money out of the market and bought some short term treasuries. I might do some more of that very soon before it completely goes to shit. Of course, if I do that, the market is going to surge!

  26. In my lifetime there has never been a greater threat to our country than the Trump laden republican party. These Republican voters are brainwashed and don't even understand how deep down the rabbit hole they are. Cult is the word that should be used to describe these hard core Trumpers.

  28. I don't disagree with that. What's 3 points................DC is backed up, still winning field position there. Chark & Goff seem very out of synch.

  30. I wouldn't take that as a slight on those two or anything negatively their way... I would just take it as Serretti acclimated himself really, really fast. Good for him. As long as Graham and Jung also make their jumps, even if it takes some extra time... good enough. It's the end result that counts, not the journey.

  32. i dont know if its that he doesnt care, but i do know that he doesnt know what he's doing. if he did, he never would have left avila in that job for that long with so much failure on his resume. you may be right that he doesnt really care, but i think the lack of knowing what to do is worse. if he's relying on hinch like he is reported to be doing, its because he doesnt know what else to do. hire a search firm for god's sake if you have no clue and no industry sources to lean on.
