all I would add on the debate about Chris Ilitch is the question of how much resource he is willing to commit pales in proportion to the question tof whether he has put management in place capable of winning with any resource level. Going all the way back to when Tom Monaghan bought the franchise from Fetzer, FO competence has always been a bigger road block than ownership resourcing.2 points

It would be really nice if they replaced the Castros and Reyes with players who could actually push some of the starters for playing time if the starters in question aren't pulling their weight. Probably not so much with Javy because of his long term deal, but Candy/Schoop maybe need to feel the heat a little bit if they are brought back.2 points

Because people here want to argue this point now. That's what we do in this discussion forum.1 point

Why argue this point now? We’ll know within a few months time if ownership is interested in increasing payroll.1 point

When my wife and I took our civil rights trail/blues trail driving trip through the south a few years ago, I tried to find the Viola Liuzzo memorial marker along Alabama highway 8. Unsurprisingly, it's poorly marked and very difficult to find.1 point

I think they wanted a better pick in this draft. I was always thought that this was probably going to be the most important draft of the Holmes era in terms of the QB decision and having the extra high picks so now he has another asset (better bean) to make some hay while also clearing $9m+ of cap space this offseason to fill other areas of need (cough defense cough).1 point

I get this as well but the return wasn’t that strong and we are trading him in division. He’s actually in his 4th year and the team had him under control for another year. Waiting a year would’ve possibly presented some other options for the team. End of the day, I don’t hate this deal and part of me likes the fact Brad had the balls to pull it off.1 point

Actually, it's worse than that. It's a late 2 for an early 4 and a late 3 for a conditional 4 so pretty meh all around. I think Holmes just wanted to get some value while he could for a player who wasn't featured in their offense and was due for a big pay day so I get the rationale even if the return was meager.1 point

We're a balanced tam in the 2nd half of most games....our defense can't stop anyone and the offense can't score. Incompetence abounds...1 point

Bottom line is I'm feeling about Chris WRT to the Tigers the same way I feel about SFH and the Lions. It's just not gonna work from a winning standpoint until they sell.1 point

While I tend to agree with this in principle, I think that there are required changes to make this team better. We have a team that has been mired in sub mediocrity for rapidly almost a decade. Are there any changes that we can agree upon that need to be made? Reading through this thread, one could almost think that we have been talking about a 90 win team.1 point

Some folks insist that the problem had to have been with the players (Jeimer, Schoop, et al.) because they hit decently in 2021 and collapsed in 2022, and we had Scott Coolbaugh here for both. To your point, a player doesn't need the hitting coach to step in and fix things when he's hitting well. The player needs the hitting coach to step in and help him when he's struggling. Apparently, Scott Coolbaugh was a fine hitting coach when he didn't have to actually coach.1 point

That's why I did. Sparty obsessed with Michigan - all the time. Sure, it's all Harbaugh's fault. Harbaugh has a lot of flaws and he irritates the hell out of me - often, but that wasn't his fault and it wasn't Tuck's fault either. If Tuck was down there that would not have happened. (and he had every right to shmack the guy who touched his head). Gonna get schmacked1 point

The bottom line is this team needs to figure out how to play better in the 2nd half with the lead. The inability to close is why they are 1-6 instead of 5-2. That’s on the offense, defense, and coaching.1 point

Gotta be impressed that they fought to the end despite being on a back to back against one of the best teams in the league, they had some chances near the end with Cade getting a couple good looks in the final minute but unfortunately they didn't go down. Team playing much better the last 4 games than it did the previous 4 which is another good sign.1 point

Sure. I take big opinions on things and sometimes I am wrong. I mean, I could take no opinion and just try to act like a water carrying contrarian all day.1 point

Mitch Garver is a catcher I stumbled across who could be a good buy low. Had an injury plagued year, was Wally Pipped by Heim. Seems likely to be non-tendered.1 point

Man, our farm system is going to be reeeeevamped. It'll take a few years, but I'm very pleased with the new leadership comming in.1 point

Duren is 18 years old, a rookie, and is 6'10. He is probably going to get better and better as a rebounder. Stewart is 21 and 6'8. I don't think there is a lot of room for growth as a rebounder. I like Stewart. I just want him next to another big or off the bench. Asking him to be a 6'8 center next to a bunch of wings is not a good long term strategy. He is not likely to be Draymond Green in his prime and we will likely not ever have the support cast Draymond had back then.1 point

I'm good with it. Elite shooters who don't rely on athleticism in theory should age well. The number sounds about right. The salary cap has changed a lot over the past 5 years or so. Super max players make around $50 million per now. Max players coming off rookie contracts make close to $40 million per. $20 million per is role player money. A good, very good role player. But not a star. Not even necessarily a starter. And I wouldn't look too deeply into it. Trader Troy signed both Plumlee and Olynyk to 3 year deals and they were both gone a year after signing. Bogey is an asset to the team but also a trade asset.1 point

That isn't much money since the cap is projected at $134M next year. 15% of your cap is about right for a 40% 3PT shooter. They still have $40M in space this summer. But I wouldn't cry if year 2 was a team option.1 point

this is what happens when you let players be general managers. i love it. kyrie doubling down on stupid is just hilarious. i wonder what team will give him big money next year? the lakers?1 point

I would listen to your podcast. Just don't spend the first 10 minutes talking about yourself like I've heard on many podcasts. You need to get right to the subject matter of interest.1 point

The teal jerseys were terrible but I don't blame it all on the teal. The accent colors made it so ugly. The light red, the dark yellow, then they blasted the whole look with a black outline. It was so busy with colors that didn't compliment each other. Just horrible. I'm being serious when I say I think there could have been an opportunity for a really cool teal jersey. Navy blue for the secondary color to contrast dark and light. Then like a super light icy blue, almost white, as the the other accent color. And something like that would have been sick.1 point

That's why I use twitter and this site.... I can watch the games and listen just like anyone. I played baseball so I like to think I know a little bit but nothing special. I never ever claim to be an expert. But I know who I like to listen to and which opinions and insights mean something to me so I like to hear their takes. And I appreciate the extra level of analysis some will go to with regard to the advance numbers or observations. Why try to reinvent the wheel?1 point
