  1. Man.... people are impatient. Signing players is not just a matter of throwing money at them. You can't put a gun to their head. You need to offer a reason for another team to give you good players. Rebuilding isn't just a matter of going to the store and trading 3 players worth 2 points for 1 player worth 8. You don't go into a general store with a wish list and the guy comes back with your items.

  2. Well, time to clean up the party and skate before cars start getting towed out of the church lot. Careful of the PBR cans, there’s some sorority beers on the coffee table. Did Lee find the plunger he was looking for?

  3. I would say that, sure, it's entirely possible that not much else happens the rest of this offseason. Perhaps even probable, I don't know. But outside of a handful of teams, there really hasn't been a ton of activity for most teams at this point so I'm not sure it's accurate to suggest that they aren't trying to do things or that they are clearly done trying to improve at this point. The market is just kinda slow and will probably be that way until some of the bigger pieces come off the board.

  5. I love his answer about building a team for the ballpark. A smart team should be able to take advantage of an asymmetric park. I don't get the stuff about the park not being "fair" to hitters. It's not a terrible park for hitters, It's below average home run park, but it's pretty close to neutral for run scoring. The obsession with the long ball is hurting the game.

  6. From Fangraphs Top Rangers prospect list https://blogs.fangraphs.com/texas-rangers-top-50-prospects-2022/ 22. Mason Englert, SP Drafted: 4th Round, 2018 from Forney HS (TX) (TEX) Age 22.6 Height 6′ 4″ Weight 206 Bat / Thr S / R FV 40 Tool Grades (Present/Future) Fastball Slider Curveball Changeup Command Sits/Tops 40/40 50/50 45/45 50/55 35/55 90-93 / 95 Englert doesn’t have electrifying stuff, but he has a bevy of viable (mostly east/west operating) pitches and surprisingly advanced command for someone who didn’t pitch at a pro affiliate until almost three years after he signed due to a TJ and the pandemic. Englert has efficiently thwarted A-ball hitters to the tune of a 27% K%, a 7.5% walk rate and a FIP close to 3.70 throughout each of the last two seasons, and is in position for a promotion to Double-A (or perhaps a Fall League assignment) as a way of stress-testing his fringe stuff against better hitters ahead of a potential 40-man addition. Englert splits the plate with his tailing sinker and sweeping slider, he can change speeds off of those with his changeup and curveball, and he will occasionally run his fastball up the ladder for whiffs. He has a high floor, and is very likely to play some kind of medium-impact role on a big league staff. The backend starter/swingman fit feels most likely, though Englert’s style of pitching brings Paul Sewald to mind.

  7. If we can walk out of day one with Carter and a CB like Porter or Cam Smith...I'll be ecstatic. If the Rams magically fall into that 5-10 range and we land in the teens...then we can look at Ringo/ Myles Murphy and Bresee / Joey Porter. Either way, we have a golden opportunity to get two more defensive starters with high end potential on day one. Teams may become to fear us

  10. Hey, he got his ring. I hope whatever he decides that he's alright heath-wise. Never had an issue with the guy, seems like a good guy, just didn't want him to win the Super Bowl the year he left us. And he did. Of course.

  12. They're taking a pitcher for the 'pen because they're going to trade all the good pitchers out of the 'pen for infielders that can't hit or field, except that the team we have today is the team we'll have all of next season

  15. I think we've slowly raised our expectations for them. As much as they still frustrate at times, putting it into perspective this has been a very strong start to year, almost 1/3 of the way in: - Record of 6-2-2 in past 10 - Road record on the year of 6-3-2 - 12th overall in points, but just 3 points behind 5th - Tied with Tampa in points, but more points than last year's three other conference finalists Colorado, NY Rangers and Edmonton -Of the summer darlings as far as who would be most improved, the Wings are 8 points up on Buffalo and 10 points up on Ottawa - Currently in an Eastern Conference playoff position - Have done so without contributions from Bertuzzi or Vrana, few players seem to be producing at unsustainable rate except maybe Husso (I think Husso is that good, but a bit nervous about overworking risk from the 18gp-8gp split with Ned) and Kubalik (good pickup, but don't expect him to finish season as a PPG player).

  16. A quote from a veteran NHL player re the Wings from an ESPN article by Emily Kaplan. "That team is going to be so legit so soon," the player said. "They have the talent, they also have the swag. Watch out for them."

  17. Good thread on the digital board ads. The ads, especially the animated ones, plus the Bally scrawl, definitely impair my viewing experience. If I had a choice of removing the but having the Wings wear yellow jerseys, even that would be better.

  18. Harris won't give a definitive answer about what he wants for supper. I doubt we'll be getting many rumors. "I'd like tonight's supper to be better than last night's supper. We should be constantly trying to improve and take it one meal at a time. This is an organization where you can elevate your supper to the next level." "So not chicken a-hole!"

  19. I think he still needs to get to 60k passing yards. Rodgers will get there next season and will be the ninth QB to reach that mark. If Stafford finished his career with the tenth most passing yards — and hit the 60k mark — with a Super Bowl in his first season off the sad sack Lions, it would be hard to keep him out. Also, don’t forget he was QB for two of the greatest WR seasons in history. And the New York media will remember what he did with Kenny Golladay.

  21. There would have been a lot more workers fucked over if the railroad workers went on strike. I also seem to recall the majority of Democrats voted to add sick pay and it was the Republicans who voted against it.

  23. What's good for the D's with 51 as opposed to 50, is now I think they have a real majority on committees. Under 50/50 it was even. They can counter program whatever lunacy McCarthy has going on in the lower chamber.

  24. If nothing else changes, we could see another 100 runs and maybe 20 more batting average points per team in additional offense next year. We may also see strikeouts rise slightly as more all-or-nothing batters roam the Earth in the quest for more launch angle and more home runs. If they liven the ball back to 2019 levels as well, then Katie, bar the door.

  40. Let me help you make sense of the decision not to give Jeimer a raise: .217 batting average and .633 OPS. Pretty sure that Zach Short could give us that. You guys are like a bunch of millennials who expect a participation trophy for each of our players. Personally, I don’t want to sit through another bullshit season with the same group of underperformers.
