I think most women right now are trying to control their rage. You may not see it, but they’re angry and fearful for themselves, their daughters, their granddaughters, their nieces, their sisters, their friends. If things continue on this downward trend, you WILL start to see/hear about people YOU know bearing the unbearable. There will be deaths. There will be life-changing despair. These are YOUR wives, sisters, daughters, nieces, granddaughters, friends. This matters. And I am angry. Very.4 points

And he appears to have reached his level of imcompetence as well. Musk has been involved with a number of businesses but they were all arms length from their customers in an important way. You sell a Tesla, the customer basically drives off - they don't continue to interact with the company in the use of the product. You made a paypal purchase it was nothing more than a computer widget to the user - use it and put it down till next time. SpaceX doesn't even have 'public' customers in any meaninful sense. Twitter appears to be the first time he's been involved in business that is customer rather than product driven, and he seems to have no clue how to manage a customer base on a ongoing basis.3 points

I assume it would be a domed stadium and for the locals I bet it would be a welcome respite to have something to do in the summer. My understanding is they avoid the strip and Fremont St like the plague. I would consider retiring there if not for what I think will end up as a water crisis.3 points

I do think the current franchise is in better shape than it was after Smith was done. On the other hand, the general drafting process has a little more certainty to it than it did 20 years ago, so it is a little easier to draft now. I think the difference between Avila and Smith was that Avila seemed to have an overall plan (although executed poorly). Not only did Smith execute poorly, but he never really seemed to have a plan.2 points

To the best of my knowledge, there was no major gambling culture in the Lions before they showed up, so... I'd say they changed the culture.2 points

The string of first rounders under Smith was absolutely comical. All he did with Detroit was make one pointless trade after another. As bad as Avila was, I think Smith as worse.2 points

Promoting Malloy this season comes with a couple of questions. Is his defense ready yet? I think I recall hearing questions about it. Can he improve it this season? It would seem his offense is ready given his slash lines and his BB/SO. I understand looking at the overall value of the player and everybody has pros and cons. But are there defensive lessons to learn yet. He's not on the 40 man roster yet. This season isn't going to yield a playoff run. Is it wise to waste a season of control now when it isn't going to go towards the playoffs? He just turned 23 years old in Lakeland. Given the above mentioned defense and the 2023 team outlook, I'd rather have his 2029 season (or whatever the last arbitration season would be) in hand than lose it for 2023. And, sure, if he proves to be what he seems to be once he is in MLB, the Tigers could always throw a long term deal at him early to keep his prime years under control. But, damn, does that future look bright, doesn't it? The early return suggests Harris should be arrested for stealing Malloy in return of a season of Joe Jimenez (and his inconsistent baseball card). You look at Malloy's "dominating the strike zone" type of numbers, his consistency from level to level and from season to season. It just seems silly to me that this trade happened.2 points

But if we argue it's a slippery slope, why does the location the buttons are pressed matter? Whether the player does it in the lounge at Allen Park (not allowed), or a couple hundred yards away on the sidewalk, it's the same behavior. I think Hongbit is right that a 1/3 season banishment is entirely excessive for conduct that - when compared to other punishments levied by the NFL - is an absolute nothing-burger.1 point

Any moron knows why certain things that are legal are not allowed in a work environment. Obviously, drugs and alcohol are impairments. They can cause a dangerous work environment and create tremendous liability for a company. The same is true for porn, which is an easy sexual harassment liability for any organization. That’s why these things are not allowed in the office. What is the reason that online gambling on non-NFL games through a legal business entity is not allowed in the facility? There is absolutely no correlation between this activity and anything around competitiveness or the trust of the game. They aren’t betting on NFL. There aren’t bookies or other shady types that may try to compromise a player. There is no impact or perceived impact on the outcome or result of any NFL game. Honestly, these suspensions will have a bigger impact on the outcome of NFL games than anything these players bet on their apps. I’m honestly confused why this crime has such a heavy penalty for doing this at a facility, on a team plane, in the locker room hours before a game. This is 3 times the length of suspension given to guys that beat their wives. Watson got the same for 20+ sexual assault cases. Makes no sense to me why 6 games for a first offense.1 point

that's on the league if the field was too dangerous to play on. its on the lions for not being prepared if the game was going to be played.1 point

Not one bit. Alcohol is a mental and physical impairment. It creates health, safety, and liability issues in the workplace. Non NFL gambling does none of these things and represents only a potential moral concern but even that connection seem hazy as online gambling has now taken a more acceptable business.1 point

I believe with Williams it was because he was at the facility. As I understand it, betting on NFL games is banned so that's why Cephus and Moore got idefinite. Williams got 6 games because he was betting on non NFL games which is allowed but not on NFL or team property.1 point

Elon Musk will not make Twitter profitable. He's Donald Trump. He's a grifter or a modern day PT Barnum.1 point

Musk was trapped because he probably was drunk when he said he'd buy twitter for $44B and was joking when he did it, but then his lawyers told him he was screwed. So now he's in charge and the revenue isn't what he needs it to be. He sees journalists and others using the site to promote their works and tried to get a piece. His ego forced him into fights and grievances and won't let him back down. He misunderstood the value of the original blue check. It's not unusual to offer up some perks to users who want a better experience somehow but $8 a month is too much. If he made it something like $2 he might have gotten some bites, I am giving that much to a couple of patreons who run podcasts on niche topics I listen to and I figure it's my way of thanking them. They're not getting anything from advertising. He might be able to turn twitter into something profitable but it won't be the same site it used to be.1 point

Yep, like a status thing, especially with smaller projects like this. It can help with funding. It would depend on what the language was in the contract. The production company, which isn't him, should be repsonsible for hiring the armorers.1 point

I think a lot of people will skip it because it is about Jesus but they'll miss out on a terrific series with phenomenal writing and acting. It is so well done. Watching it will no more make someone a Christian than watching Breaking Bad made them a drug dealer and yet they'll miss out on a fantastic show because "Jesus TV".1 point

I really like Goff and think he has done everything you could of asked of him. Luckily at this point we have a GM that most of us have faith in. You can't argue that LA made a bad decision getting rid of Goff for Stafford and picks because they won a super bowl. Some might think that they could of won with Goff instead of Stafford although there is no way to prove this. All I am saying is I would be fine if the Lions drafted Stroud or another QB because I have faith they believed they can upgrade at the most important position on the field on a rookie contract. If they don't then I am confident they think they can win a super bowl with Goff. Or did not think the QB at 6 is better or don't feel like wasting draft picks on these QBs was worth the upgrade.1 point
