  1. If people don’t recognize the out and out war against women, they’re being purposefully obtuse.

  3. A couple of points: they are walking at a decent clip, at least compared to some of their worst months in 2022. And compared to 2022, their BABIP is lower, so they may be getting somewhat unlucky. But on the whole, eye test, I would say "it's better, but they still suck" is a good way to characterize them compared to 2022. At least at the moment.

  4. The questions about defense, IMO, are a good argument to keep Malloy down for the time being. Because it's a double edged sword: while his offensive production at AAA is tantalizing, he alone will not fix the Tigers offense. And so long as the Tigers offense is struggling, the Tigers will need to pitch and play good defense in order to put wins in the win column. I don't know that he's far off, but Malloy is way too young to be penciling into a DH spot....

  6. 7th inning really demonstrates one major difference between 2023 and 22/21... this team is significantly better defensively

  7. They were talking earlier in the game how Greene had less than 800 AB in the minors and Tork less than 600. The result is they are learning at the highest level.

  9. Well Joe Biden it is for me! I understand why he running again, because Donald Trump is. I'm sure President Biden and those around him feel the stakes are too high and our democratic norms and values to important to risk someone new and unproven taking on Donald Trump. So let's go Joe! I hope Brandon rides again.

  18. I’m coming round to the idea that the all-Republican government of 2017-18 was basically the dog that caught the car—not because they didn’t know what to do with it, but rather they knew it was a bad idea to do anything with it. Republicans as currently constructed is an “anti” entity—they get their power being anti-Democrats, anti-woke, anti-trans, anti-etc. So they need to be seen as being on the outside to maintain their power. If they started making decisions once they got power, they would not only be held accountable for those decisions, but they would also come to be considered insiders, which among that base would be a one-way ticket to the outside of the party. I think that’s why they did basically nothing even when they were in control: it was have been political suicide for them to do anything.

  19. You know what's going to happen right? The Lions are finally gonna have their greatest season in the SB era... make it all the way to the SB and face Aaron Rodgers and the Jets, who will knock them off with a Hail Mary because of a bad penalty call.

  20. I just have to shake my head and chuckle at all the organizational concerns about third base and our lack of clarity about it, when for a few years there seemingly everybody Avila drafted or traded for was supposed to play third base.

  21. Jake Rogers has 38 PAs in 21 games. That's not acceptable, he should be up around 60 by now. He is leading the team in OPS and is the better defender at his position. He isn't a young kid, this is his prime. Play him.

  28. Rob Deer 1991, 25 hrs, .386 slg That was only 25 hrs, but yikes. Chris Davis, Khris Davis, Joey Gallo, Dave Kingman, Gorman Thomas were other guys that hit a lot of home runs but had very low .slg.

  30. maybe the worst play I've seen Riley make - maybe an indication he brooding over his hitting instead of keeping his head in the game. Not a good sign.

  31. yup. The ol' Obi-Wan-Kenobi threat. That one he made to Vader turned out to be a pretty empty. He didn't do squat arcross 8 more movies beside rent space in Skywalkers head.

  33. Totally, Tork gets far more skepticism because of last year, but he seems a lot less concerning at the moment than Greene does. At a minimum, Tork is at least hitting and pulling fastballs and making some hard contact. Greene has a good approach and is promising in a lot of respects, but the inability to pull any fastballs, along with the Ks and the high groundball rate, is pretty alarming.

  34. I don't know how much stock to put into numbers yet, at least as far as individual players are concerned. They're still only, what, 20 games into the season. As Vierling was mentioned, I see he has only 20 PAs vs LHPs. So, small sample size? Something that should correct itself over time? Maton was another hitter I glanced at this morning. BABIP is killing him. Hard hit % looks reasonable, but his LD% looks extremely low and his FB% looks pretty high (I think going off of memory). He's still drawing walks, so, do they just wait out the BABIP or do the LD%/FB% ratios suggest something needs to change? Again, only 20 games in. Now one of the numbers that is frightening is Greene's propensity for SOs. HIs swing path/length has been mentioned around here a bit. I'm not sure that's necessarily a small sample thing unless they are actively working on something right now. And, of course, the team wide slump is concerning as a whole.

  35. MTU, you have to understand none of that matters anyway. For most of America, but esp the GOP, politics, which was only ever loosely tied to policy in the US anyway is now completely umooored from it. And TBH, we pretty much have a policy ignorant population anyway. So it's all about the snake oil. It's all personality, entertainment and tribal identity now. The only role of policy is as subject matter to hang rhetoric on in order to create the public persona. Trump could take any position on any policy but as long as he talks about it in terms of white greivance and owning the libs and makes it all about him, it would still sell to his supporters equally well. You have a whole generation of GOP Congressional leadership who have built their popularity without having accomplishing anything at all policy wise or legislatively (MTG/Bobert/Jordan McCarthy etc). US politics, esp on the right, has to be observed through the lens of the WWE. That's the model.

  37. I binged the final season of Better Call Saul. Man, what a great show. What a great, great show. I'll have to look to see if that final season thread is here or lost to space on the old site. It should be a great read and provide insight to things I may have missed. Poor Howard. That really bothered me.
