  1. They are already close enough in the AL Central where they should be making moves that can help them win next year. They can't keep rebuilding forever.

  2. No, they need to be done with that ****. They can win next year.

  4. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/troy-melton-is-a-tigers-pitching-prospect-on-the-rise/ “What he brings to the table, first and foremost, is stuff. The fastball gets up to the high 90s. He can really spin it — it’s a solid 17-20 inches of vertical break — and pitch to the top of the zone. He’s understanding how to get to the bottom of the zone in quality areas. That’s kind of the next step in his development. He pitches with confidence. And he throws a bunch of strikes. He’s that combination of good stuff, good metrics, competitor, and strike-thrower. Put those together and what you have is a pitcher with a chance to have a pretty good career. He’s got a chance to be a two or a three on a good big league team. I like his ceiling.”

  5. Speaking of White Sox, this is pure comic gold, Jerry. "Great timing all around. Why not announce a contract extension for manager Pedro Grifol and a boxing clinic by Tim Anderson while they’re at it?"

  6. Did his press conference that was supposed to completely exonerate him happened yet?

  7. Fulmer deserves this after that called 3rd on Parker.

  8. Wow, the Tigers finally have a line-up with multiple hitters who I look forward to seeing bat. How many years has it been?

  9. Made it to one! Six innings late but apparently right on time.

  10. I read a story about Andre Dawson. He was arguing a strike call so the ump tossed him. The league fined him. He paid the fine with a cheque and on the memo line he wrote "donation for the blind".

  12. The one I remember best is Rusty Staub in the early 80's. He took a big swing and the ball hit him right in the knee. If I recall correctly, he argued the strike so much he was thrown out of the game.

  13. I could see Adduci in a role like Costanza had for the Yankees on Seinfeld, particularly the one episode where George had to take reps from the Astros out and "show them a good time". Deuce's role probably includes giving players all the right intel where they can find the hottest spots to hit after the games and how to handle the police if they were to get caught in a tough situation.

  14. They are not really jobs, just titles. He gets paid and they get to use his name. Being associated with Adduci has value to them.

  15. Interestingly enough, Torkelson has hit 20 in *his* last 82 games. (Spencer's AB early this season were forgettable.) But nice to be throwing around positive data for a change!

  16. Right... So I think rookie Brodric Martin will be more critical in this area. Not that I'm placing all of my hopes on a 5th round rookie... But I think he's the guy/ position (NT), along with any other improvement Alim McNeil may or may not be able to make this year, that affects the run game the most. One more but... "But", like Tater, I still think Campbell will have a positive impact on the run defense, even if I agree with you that the DT's will be more critical in this area...

  17. Tork is a dynamic offensive threat who's generating some buzz...Greene/Tork/Carpenter has the potential to be a top level 3-4-5 heat of the line up. I am not trading that...it seems so...Kansas City A's/Yankees

  18. Yeah - JD is still a terrible defensive OF but that hasn't stopped the keening for him ever since he was traded. Moving Tork for magic beans because we think we need a defensive upgrade anyway? For me that is too much in the direction of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.

  19. ESPN talking heads picked their award winners for next season. Cade was #1 for most improved.

  20. Re-sign Rodriguez or the equivalent, sign another pitcher like they did last year with Lorenzen/Boyd, trade a middling prospect for an old right-handed hitter with a year or two left on his contract (unless they can find one in free agency). Bring up Keith and Malloy when they are ready. That would be an entertaining team.

  21. Deion Sanders is the Red Army wrecking its revenge on East Prussia in 1945 or the Mongols sacking Badhdad in 1258. There is no way he's adhered to rules about feeding recruits.

  22. Yes, he is predictably profitting from MLBs partnership with gambling organizations and what better city is there for that than Chicago?

  23. I appears that they have enough returning internal pieces to add to next season. They also should have a pretty good payroll situation to take on salary for a few seasons. Cabrera retires, Rodriguez opts out, Baez opts in. They have one salary at $25M and nobody else approaching double digit $Ms. I think where it could get tricky is if the need prospect capital to make trades. But I think they can look to teams trying to shed salary as a priority to get value back in return without giving up too much.

  25. Just a little perspective. The guy lived our dream. He played for the Tigers. We're just sitting here banging away on keyboards chatting about him.

  26. I don't know that Vierling should be counted just yet. And I would count on Baez because of his glove. His throwing seems to have gotten under control lately (save for one that Torkelson should have still had last night).

  40. if the ncaa were actually serious about its rules, tennessee would be banned from the post season for a long time. but theyre not. so they have to tweet out that "its not a cheeseburger" thus telling everyone that it is, in fact, a cheeseburger.
