Law and Justice lose their majority in elections in Poland. They may not go gently into that good night, but still a promising step for democracy in Poland.4 points

I used to collect Bobbleheads, but these days prices are getting outrageous for them. Then I discovered some software that essentially lets you to "paint" with 3D filament and so I started creating these instead! The fun thing is that as long as I can find a picture I can create one of any player I want instead of having to settle for whomever "they" create bobbleheads for. Suggestions for who I should do next?3 points

The fact that this piece of garbage is even thus close to becoming House Speaker, and thereby putting him third in line for the presidency behind the vice president, it’s horrifying. He would absolutely, given the opportunity, in the 2024 election, refuse to certify the votes for the Democratic opponent. This is a travesty that he’s even this close. The man’s a f’ing Traitor.2 points

I don't know where this is being discussed but today I see an airstrike on a hospital in Gaza and seeing multiple tweets saying it's Israel's bomb and others saying it's from Hamas... misinformation is king now and we've reached the consequences of a post Jan 6 fake news world. Nobody will believe anything that isn't on "their side" and no matter what footage or statements show minds will not be changed. Such a dangerious time now. I have no idea what the truth is because I can't study and research... twitter used to be of some use but now it's not reliable. Everyone is stuck in their bubbles. Not both sidesing this at all because it really is confusing to me. The extremes on both sides have it in for Israel, for different reasons I guess, and the middle who support Israel, as I tend to do, are probably guilty of the same. If Hamas did it, then it's business as usual for them. If Israel did it then they need to be more careful and just take the L if if the alternative means more civilian casualties. There's supposed to be rules of war. You can't take down an entire region, just like we couldn't and shouldn't have after 9/11, even though at the time I suggested just nuking the whole middle east and starting over. Emotions run high but cooler heads are required by those with actual decision making power.2 points

Winners...they achieved the goal of a Super Bowl...but does their result impact ours? We have the ideal QB for our offense and we got two 1sts. After a few years of performance...Goff for Stafford looks like a pretty fair swap even up. That we got two extra 1sts out of the deal is a huge windfall for us. I don't really care what LA did I look at the impact for us...and the impact for us has been pretty significant2 points

It’s funny, two years ago I couldn’t find people to go with me to the worst of the worst games. People were bailing last minute to some, I went by myself to one or two. This year, I’ve been approached by multiple people, some of whom I barely know let alone would go to a game with, like “hey we should go to a game sometime!” or “if you’re ever selling let me know!” To which I say,2 points

The other question is whether as a society we can afford both technologies side by side or if it become too uneconomical. 95% of all driving is short trip. If *all* that were done with EVs and you still had an IC car in the garage for long distance travel or occasional hauling, transportation use of liquid fuel at a rate of 5% of today's is not a significant ecological carbon load. But there are certainly problems from both the cost and regulatory sides. You'd need a system that insures IC use was only kept to an actual minimum and didn't leak back into everyday use. That could probably be done with pricing incentives or a carbon cap and trade system. And would a liquid fuel distribution system remain economically viable at that small a scale. But right now we are in panic mode trying to hit zero carbon. Which is fine for now. But that is probably not a realistic or necessary target. The planet already has a huge natural carbon cycle with or without us. We don't have to nor can we bring it to a full stop, we just have to get to where we stop messing it up, and that will be work enough.1 point

The Wings are becoming more skilled upfront, but I would still rate the goaltending tandem as league average or worse and the 7 defensemen (even with the added depth) as a group decidedly below league average. That puts a ceiling on this team. Seider and Walman are good NHL defensemen, Maata is pretty good. Edvinsson might be pretty good shortly after being called up. So we need at least two of Petry, Holl, Gostisbehere and Chiarot to "not suck" - I'm not sure that's a given.1 point

I don't think Manning has been especially impressive when he has been on the field. He certainly has shown flashes, but has not sustained anything for more than few weeks and has low strikeout rates. I was more impressed with what Olsen did last year than anything Manning has done.1 point

Valid concern because he could be Speaker if GQP retains majority after 2024 election, but I think the 119th Congress starts Jan 3rd, 2025, and then 3 days later Kamala Harris picks our new president for us.1 point

First use of ATACMS was done by surprise and supposedly junked a bunch of attack helicopters on the ground1 point

At least to far, the Wings seem to be getting away from playing such a simple game, which I think is a good sign. It was like under Blashill he didn't want them playing anything but dead simple hockey. That's fine to limit how bad the losses a bad team is going to suffer are going to get, but if you start getting skilled players you need to start seeing skill level play - less dump and chase, more sophisticated passing schemes, more effort to retain possession instead of just constantly clearing the puck back to the opposition. And yes - it can sometimes backfire, but you can't beat good teams without playing a higher level game.1 point

I don't know which is true because I haven't seen any follow-up reporting, but as CMR notes, there was a report put out that it was McCarthy who evicted Pelosi on his way out the door because he believed she reneged on an earlier pledge to support him against a MTV. Also - supposedly under the rule McHenry can't do *anything* except preside over the Speaker election anyway.1 point

I have a feeling that was more McCarthy and Scalise than McHenry. McHenry is just a lieutenant in the MAGA Army1 point

Right now, no matter how good we are playing, the Rams are the winners of that trade. The goal is to win a Super Bowl and be the very best and they did that. Now we just have to get our Super Bowl this year to match it!1 point

It's hard not to rely on history. The Chiefs have a proven track record and it's easy to dismiss a week one game without two of their star players. I can't fault anyone for ranking the Chiefs ahead of the Lions right now. You have five teams at 5-1... Two of them were in the SB last year, another was in the NFC Championship game. Of the remaining two one has a super high powered offense that's putting up 37+ pts per game on average and probably would have done better last year if it weren't for QB injury issues. The last team had a great finish to last year and has looked good, but (playing devil's advocate here): Game 1: Beat a great team missing two star players Game 2: Lost to the Seahawks Game 3: Beat the 3-3 Falcons Game 4: Beat the 2-3 Packers Game 5: Beat the 0-6 Panthers Game 6: Beat the 3-2 Bucs Other than the first game there's no big statement wins and we all know that that game has that asterisk on it, so...1 point

What will happen if the vote is a mostly-Democratic majority with Republican holdouts to certify another Biden win? Will Jim Jordan declare the vote to be a rigged fraud and then a bunch of red hat reps storm the Democratic cloakroom and hang Don Bacon in effigy?1 point

Nice rig. I love hearing the soft whir of an electric engine versus the aggressive rumble of an IC. For one thing, it makes the music sound better at lower volumes!1 point

It is worth pointing out Nick Maton OBP'ed .414 in AAA this year. Tyler Nevin .400. The pretacked ball, ABS, and rash of pitcher injuries across the sport really juiced the offense in AAA to the point that needs to be factored into any "translations."1 point

Hi Stephanie, Moderate Republican Representative xxxx of XX, District xx. I will never vote for Fascist Jim Jordan. Not even if Hell Froze over. I wish to live in a Democracy, not a Fascist Dictatorship. Tell Sean Hannity and Jim Jordan to go **** themselves. Just wanted to make certain I was not unclear about my position. Just to reiterate: Jim Jordan can go **** himself.1 point
