there will be no "fairness" for matt patricia. yes, the eagles defense was lit up in the weeks before his hiring. but it was lit up by kansas city, dallas x2, buffalo, and san francisco. a murderers row of offenses. matt patricia took over and got to play the giants twice and the cardinals at home. 2 of the bottom feeding teams in the league with nothing to play for and 2 of the worst offenses in football. they gave up 25, 35, and 27. and now tonight they are getting destroyed by an injured baker mayfield and the bucs. its embarassing. is it all patricia's fault? of course not. however, there were rumblings in the locker room about having to do things "the patriot way" before desai was sacked. did a conniving patricia start planting seeds to stab desai in the back? did darius slay suddenly decide to have surgery when he knew patricia would suddenly be running things? ultimately, this falls on the head of the jerk coach who runs the team. the guy who was mocking other teams' fans when the eagles were winning and is now close to being out of a job as the eagles embarass themselves in the playoffs. between siriani and patricia, it couldnt happen to two nicer guys. phuck off philly. go climb a greased pole.3 points

Kelly Stafford didn't like Lions fans booing her children but she lacks the self-awareness to realize they were booing her and not the children.2 points

I found this interesting. The Rams use motion as much as anyone and used it 91% of the time against the Lions. Minnesota is also in the upper half of teams that use motion. The Lions struggle a bit against motion. Tampa is near the bottom of the league in motion. Look at some of the top teams on that list. The Lions struggled against the Ravens, Seahawks, Packers and Chargers who are all top 10 in motion. They did well against Carolina, Tampa, Broncos and even the Saints to some degree who use less motion.2 points

I've been thinking, what exactly is Stafford going to be remembered for as a Lion? He will likely still be the Lions all time leader in many passing categories for years to come, but what is his special moment as a Lion? The game against Cleveland where the Lions won a meaningless game with his dislocated shoulder? The fake spike against the Cowboys in a mediocre season? I will always remember the Goff pass to Chark against the Packers to end Rodgers Packer career and his pass to St Brown to win the first playoff game in 32 years and who knows what will happen in these playoffs. Stafford had those opportunities and for things within and out of his control came up short. Stafford kind of reminds me of the Grant Hill of the Lions. A star player who played on some mediocre teams but never advanced in the playoffs. They both left for sunny pastures and the Pistons, like the Lions, were left with a castoff that became central to a playoff run and a new era.2 points

Okay, yes, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a much better team than when we played them before. No doubt about that. But this idea that they have some sort of great offense based on last night? Remember, they played a Matt Patricia-coached defense. You saw such a piss-poor effort on defense last night with guys who weren't balling out on defense, not at all. Those Eagles player hate him like our guys hated him. You can tell. Players who love or even respect their coach don't give an awful effort like that. So while I expect Baker & the Boys to score more than 6 this time, they are not playing a Matt Patricia-coached D now. They are playing an Aaron Glenn/Dan Campbell-coached team and despite all their defensive flaws, the Buccaneers are going to feel every single hit on Sunday. How the **** does Patricia keep getting gigs? God, I hate that guy (and I don't hate Marinelli or Morningwheg, they were just overmatched in that role, they weren't completely arrogant about it, not like Patricia, who would stop press conferences to cup his own farts and hold it up to his nose. You know Belichick will probably hire him. Good. We're playing Dallas next year and I don't care what happens the rest of this season, the chip on the Lions shoulders vs. Dallas will be as big as Dan Campbell's balls.2 points

Several years I put together an audio file I entitled "80 Years of Classic Detroit Sports Memories" (I have an updated version ready to go). Clips of 65 big moments, 1935-2014. You can hear the climax of Schmeling-Louis II at the 1:32 mark. Hearn's knockout of Duran is around the 31:30 mark.2 points

The Lions seemed different in that it was an arranged marriage between head coach and general manager and not the GM picking the head coach.1 point

It would be very easy for a poorly coached team to overlook Tampa but I don't see a MCDC coached team to do so. The Lions will be ready. I feel much, much more confident against Tampa than I did against LA. Tampa has a couple of very good receivers but Baker isn't one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Pressure him and it may be a blowout. Lions by 6? Yeah, I would take that bet.1 point

Can't argue with that. Regardless, the Lions aren't losing to Tampa no way no how. I will stake my....poor reputation on it 😉1 point

I don't want to put the cart too far ahead of the horse.... Tampa first.... but having watched the Green Bay/Dallas highlights, Love is a concern. I'm not ready to say he's the next big thing in the lineage of Favre and Rodgers, but if he consistently plays how he did against Dallas, he will be. I genuinely like our matchup against San Francisco. They're very good, but they would have a tougher time exploiting our weaknesses.1 point

here it is. I would say that I have never seen a team so disinterested in playing football, but that would be a lie, as I saw a handful of Patricia's last few games in Detroit.1 point

Back end of the top 40 or so... I'd even rank him lower because of the general lack of success of players of his profile signed at his age.1 point

Kinda interesting looking at the 4 QBs left in the NFC. You of course have Goff who was basically cast aside and kicked to the curb by his former team, same with Mayfield, then you have Love who very well may still be riding the bench if Rodgers didn't decide he wanted to leave and then you have the literal last pick in the NFL draft.1 point

The Iowa caucuses and the import given them by the political class are the worst event in American politics. Why should anyone care what a handful of John Birch/New Apostolic Reformation/MAGA in Iowa think?1 point

This is from a few years ago but I saw a similar graphic last weekend. It’s probably not so black and white once one digs into the numbers https://www.si.com/nfl/chiefs/gm-report/the-recent-history-of-resting-starters-in-week-17-provides-a-warning-for-the-chiefs#:~:text=Comparing the win percentage of,in their first playoff game. Using data from the past 10 years to see if resting has an impact on the first playoff game a team plays, the data is a bit surprising. Comparing the win percentage of teams who rested their starters to those that didn’t, the rested teams had a staggeringly poor .333 win percentage in their first playoff game. The teams who did not rest their starters had a .786 win percentage in their first playoff game.1 point

Please tell me you’ve considered that leaving might be financially unrealistic, or might not have the freedom to do so. Also, if you’re going to ask that question of women, might we not also ask it of men - who have wives, mothers, sisters, nieces, granddaughters, etc?1 point

Yeah the thought of something like this being a minor league type system for the NFL is often brought up and it does sound good in theory but in reality like you said football is too much of a violent sport for it to really be feasible. You would need to have it run the same time the NFL does so the guys would either be playing there OR in the NFL but of course that would never happen cause it wouldn't make financial sense for them to try to compete for viewers with the NFL and CFB on at the same time.1 point

so you want guys like sorsdal and martin to play/practice for an entire season and then play ANOTHER season right after? and then come back and play again in the late summer/fall? football is a tough game, i'm not sure people can take that much wear and tear and be successful for a long time. maybe qbs and wrs, but probably not guys getting hit on every play like linemen. this aint baseball.1 point
