One of the reasons they've never done this... They haven't really had prospects worth doing this with. Greene and Tork, I probably would have considered, but Greene got hurt right around the time you would pull the trigger on this. And Tork is a Boras guy. Before that, Castellanos made some sense, but the CBT implications make that tricky. Because of the AAV nature of these type of deals, you don't really want to be entering into them when you are going to be fighting the tax, taking on a few extra million on your CBT Salary without upgrading the current roster. Before that, Curtis Granderson signed an extension in 2008 after 2+ years. And you don't do this with pitchers.4 points

This team might be interesting enough this year for me to crawl out of my survivalist bunker, shed my camo, and pay attention to what’s going on around me.3 points

Great move by the Tigers! They have never done anything like this before with a prospect. If he's good, they have him locked up through his prime years at a very reasonable cost. If not, it won't hurt them too much.3 points

I'm sick of hearing about 49ers "experience". Look at the dinosaurs. How long were they around - 160+ million years? That's experience. Are they still around today? I rest my case2 points

How do you like that 49ers. You haven't even seen Gibbs yet2 points

I don't think so. If he is not good, he will be done at age 29. If he's good, he'll get three more years.2 points

If Max Clark does what he is expected to do, he will probably have to get one of these eventually, too.2 points

I’m feeling good about today, fellas. Detroit has the better and more experienced QB. He has been here before. Now he is here again, but all the pressure is on Purdy to live up to the #1 seed, at home. Detroit’s coaching staff is also fearless. They were not supposed to bring this team to this game. They were supposed to wait until next year to contend. They were not supposed to be able to overcome their defensive deficiencies. But here they are. Shanahan has all the questions and pressure on him. The collapse as Atlanta OC in the Super Bowl, giving up 21 fourth quarter points to KC in Super Bowl 54, giving up 13 fourth quarter points to the Rams in their Super Bowl season. When it is close in the 4th quarter, all of these collapses will be fresh in the memory of the 49ers.2 points

Still surreal to me that the Lions are playing in the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP today for a berth in The SUPER BOWL. Whatever happens today barring a complete blowout in which the Lions didn't show up, the season has been a massive success. Still, NFL teams that don't have Patrick Mahomes only get so many chances like this so why not get it done now because, you never know, this opportunity might never come again for this group.1 point

I love it. This seems like smart business to me. Keith is guaranteed +$40 (if my quick numbers are correct) which is awesome for him. If he turns into a star, as the Tigers think he will, the Tigers get a massive discount.1 point

4 quarters, 60 minutes away from a ****ing Super Bowl. Still hard to truly grasp.1 point

His hitting producton was not elite, not with a 107 OPS+. His speed and defense were elite. He is Hall worthy, but I wouldn't put him in the upper echelon of Hall of Famers.1 point

I think I will feel like banishing to the Shadow Realm any posters who would dare bring up such a horrid scenario on the Friday before the NFC Championship Game. 😉1 point

The WSJ called the Lions the biggest sports story right now, and said it's not even close. The rest of the country is buying into this team. Dan Campbell's picture showed up on the freaking Drudge Report in a link to a story about him. Given all of that I don't see why the league, if they did fix or prefer things, would do it against the Lions. It doesn't pass the smell test. This is not a brief cinderella story. It's someting that was started midway through last season and kept going and there's no reason to think it won't continue. They didn't come out of nowhere. Stories like that are good for business and that's what the NFL cares about.1 point

The Saints classless play aside, they do not have fake kneel-downs. Victory formation is a signal from the offense to the defense that we're not going to try to move the ball, so please don't slam into us for no reason and risk injuries to us or you. If you fake this it destroys that trust and means defense will charge through and people will get hurt. It's why what the Saints did was so despicable. Fake "spikes" are a different story.1 point

As long as you aren't spending the milk money.... you won't miss this money in 3 years but the memories will be with you no matter what happens. Do it. During the 2006 Tigers run I had to drop like $1600 for my playoff tickets. To off set the cost I sold the 2nd game of both the LCS and WS. So yeah.... for $120 I missed Magglio's HR. That kind of thing will never happen again to me because of money.1 point
