Very difficult decisions will have to be made soon. Is it safer to stay here and wait for rescue or should I go out and pursue rescue? Who knows how far I'll have to go to find any evidence of life. We have enough supplies to last until mid-April, but if recuse doesn't happen by then some very drastic decision might have to be made, like, do I actually eat that $1 frozen Michelina pasta primavera that has been in my freezer since 2018? I will do my best to keep you posted on our plight. My dog Lucy is staying as upbeat as she can. She's playing it off like she doesn't care. Her bravery knows no bounds (except when there's thunder). I need to save my strength for the desperate, dangerous days ahead. Until then, be careful and please let me know if the Tigers release Javy Baez.5 points

What kind of message does it send to other free agents if they try to claw back his bonus? /ducks/4 points

Thanks, I thought what Henning said was accurate and non-controversial. Bascally, Avila inherited a mess, did some things which will help the current and future Tigers, but had weaknesses in some areas - including the same areas where the Tigers have been weak for most of the last three decades. Now, Harris needs to take them to the next level and seems to have the ability to do so.3 points

It's surprising, although I don't know how surprising it should be.... the expectations from the podcast/beat writer set seemed to assume Manning was a lock, but while Mize and Olson had flaws of their own (Mize in particular with walks), they both seemed to give up less hard contact as well in their starts. The level of competition is just higher to make this team, and that's a sign of progress.2 points

I'm glad they didn't sign JD. I like him but this team needs the flexibility of a rotating DH. They need to find out about the guys we have now to see if they are the future.2 points

Avila wanted to start over in 2015 but Ilitch was the one on insisting we go for it which led to the signings of Zimmermann, Upton and the delayed trades of JV, JD and Kinsler. If we tore things down to the studs when Avila wanted to and traded our guys 2 yrs earlier when they had more value perhaps we would be in a completely different situation.2 points

the other thing to be said in Avila's defense is that ownership matters. In his 1st two years Mike Ilitch's presense likely enforced the status quo. The org was not going to get a major refit while Mike was still alive and even in 2017/18 Chris' attention on the ball club was likely pretty limited getting his hands around all the roles he had inherited. That said, Al still needed to have moved faster once Chris gave him the go head to start changing things.2 points

If you looked thoroughly at every VP and POTUS after leaving office you’d probably find classified docs. Scraps of papers can be classified. They over classify. It’s what you do with them and when notified that matters. It’s not complicated to figure out.2 points

If I were in a bar room brawl, I’d probably rather be on Anderson’s side as opposed to against him. His hard but wild throwing probably means he’s a hot head if he sees you drinking something he doesn’t like. Eric Munson is from San Diego, so he’s probably too chill to be in a bar room brawl. So actually, maybe I’d prefer hanging out with him. Hmmmmm….. Munson was a C but got moved out to 1B. Probably had something to do with trying to catch Anderson? There might be some long standing bad vibes between the two. You know what, I’m just going to stay home. I don’t need to go to the bar. Sounds potentially dangerous if Matt Anderson and Eric Munson are there. Does that answer your question?1 point

It sucks having Baez on the roster the next four years, but Kreidler has a .429 career OPS so far. His upside is probably utility infielder.1 point

Love this. Wish I could have articulated my thoughts so well. And how bloody hard is it to draft when you have the first pick twice and then number five for gosh sakes. Plus he is still out of a job I believe.1 point

Olson is also set to pitch the most innings out of any of them. Skubal 80, Manning 78 and Mize zero innings probably means they will have limits this year.1 point

You see that part where it says they were ranked #2 in the preseason prior? Could you be more disingenuous when it comes to anything involving Avila?1 point

because of my previous job, i've taking tons of training regarding documentation. I've never heard anything talk about how it's alright to be more lax with the rules the higher up you are. Instead it's drilled into our head that if any point we're not sure if/how to share information, the support process which will get the right people involved that can confirm how you should handle it.1 point

Pistons entire roster was effectively MIA for about 50 games if that counts.1 point

When you have bubble teams that have played at or slightly point per game pace, most are going to pick up 8-12 points every 10 games. We barely have more than 10 games left in the season. See the Strk column to the far right So time is really running out for Pitt, Buffalo and even Jersey. I don’t think any of them will reach 90 points, which to me is the bare minimum to even be in the conservation. I think the 8th place team will finish with 93 points, give or take a point or two. - Buffalo at 71 points with 11 games to go would top out at 93 points if they win all 11, but even highly improbable 9-2 would only get them to 89 - Jersey at 72 points could top out at 96 if they won all 12 remaining, but even unlikely 8–3-1 would only get them to 89 - Pitt at 69 points could top out at 97 if they won all 14 remaining, but even a highly improbable 10-4 would only get them to 89 I also think Tampa is all but safe. To me, at this point it is 2 spots for Philly, Detroit, Washington, NYI.1 point

Meanwhile while we're "discussing" the level of illegality of classified documents. Nobody wants to talk about the fact that UNoHoo's daughter and son in law walked out of the White House with a $2 Billion deal with Saudi Arabia for who knows what. Yet the Crazy Party in Congress wants to hang the current occupant of the White House for something his son allegedly did but can't prove.1 point

I think its fair to say Avila brought the farm system from an F to a C, which is probably a plateau for Avila, and Harris has the ability to improve upon the C. Or something along those lines.1 point

I thought it might be a good idea for them to pursue Martinez before they signed Canha, but there is no role for him now. Martinez is little better hitter than Canha, but Canha gives them more flexibility.1 point

Yes, it would have and that is a problem throughout our entire legal sysem. I think it is pretty much accepted that higher ups can get away with things that lower level people can not. I also believe there are informally agreed upon parameters (among the elites) as to how far they are allowed to go. A lot of it has to do with convenience and efficiency, but it sure opens up the possibility for carelessness and ill inent.1 point

I also don't know if they would have developed under Avila's system. I don't know that they wouldn't have though and they aren't fully developed until they succeed in the majors. Having experienced the Randy Smith era Tigers (and I know many others here also remember that time), it's just hard for me to see Avila as the abject failure he's been made out to be.1 point

So our three game spring training trip ends today with a 1-1-1 record for the Tigers in the games we attended. Mostly all sun and warm enough to enjoy all of the games, almost like being in Florida 😁 Hoping the team can stay healthy the rest of spring. Headed north in the morning looking at 100% chance of rain to start the day. Ready for opening day.1 point

Olson is pitching Saturday against the Yankees and Maeda is pitching the split squad against Toronto. My guess is that sets up Olson to start for Toledo and avoids him earning super two status.1 point

There's a clip going around of James Harden passing the ball to Kawhi and then running over to try to block his corner three. It's the most insane thing I've ever seen. Edit: Here's it is:1 point
