Where's all the Debbie Downer's after another series win? Oh yeah..... it's no fun being a sports fan when the team wins for some people.5 points

With the bill against the Chinese ownership of Tik-Tok, the funding for Ukraine, and the Trump prosecutions, events are certainly driving Russian and Chinese disinformation and dark money efforts to meddle to whatever highest gear they have. You don't have to be a conspiratorialist to understand that has been SOP in Xi's and Putin's playbooks for years now. Various prosecutions and a lot of journalism have put this all reliably into the public record. Putin doesn't even bother to deny it. How much effect they have is always debatable, and they try to slipstream their support into strengthening indigenous movements that they find useful, but they're in there trying with background money and support.3 points

And it strikes me that at his point, they have crossed over into sabotaging whatever legitimate cause they may have had. This protest movement has moved so far over the top that it's made itself the issue and it strikes me that any/all legitimate criticism of Likud settlement policy and Netanyahu's conduct of the war have being pushed completely out of public consciousness, the exact opposite of what worthwhile protest is supposed to achieve. And I don't think these people understand how civil disobedience works as a protest tool. Civil disobedience worked in the US Civil Rights movement and for Gandhi in India because unjust law was preventing discriminated against groups from doing things they should have been able to do, thus in doing those things they broke the law, and forced morally corrupt prosecution. Or even in Vietnam protests where kids forced the system to arrest them to induct them into the Army. Privileged kids just breaking trespass law and destroying university (public) property nets them liability for prosecutions that are just, completely appropriate and will be/are widely supported by the public.3 points

What is going on to make this the flashpoint issue to garner this level of protest on American college campuses? I understand there are humanitarian concerns but why is this cause the one that has incited the far left? They are protesting at levels that we didn’t come close to seeing on campus for more pressing issues for liberal Americans. Where was this support for Ukraine against Putin? Where was this support to defend Roe? Where is this type of protest against guns and school shootings? I’m boggled at the reason that’s causing American students to pick a known terror organization in Hamas to be the issue they have chosen to hang their hat at this level. It just doesn’t make much sense.3 points

Not being able to beat the A.L. East last year cost us a chance to win the division. We beat Tampa 2 out of 3 on the road so keep winning on the road and we may see the playoffs this fall. Just get in and anything can happen. Or...so I've heard. Lol2 points

It appears to me that the AL Central is the best team in baseball with four teams over .500. Only division with four.2 points

and a very fine AB in the 8th. Got a base hit on a pitch that fooled him - not enough others on this team can manage that.2 points

This is a great recap of the 1934 World Series, specifically the Medwick incident. Radio clips, video clips, shots of the Briggs Stadium bleachers, interviews decades later with Greenberg and others. Imagine if social media was around back then - Tigers win their first pennant in 25 years, take a 3-2 series lead, then lose the final two games at home including a Game 7 blowout.2 points

Maybe just keeping Johnson on as Speaker is a better alternative than what ever Moscow Marge and her merry band of Putinists have in mind for the next SoH. Anything that keeps the Trump/Moscow Caucus in check, no matter how minimal is better than the alternative from the other side of the aisle.2 points

Really, any of us would have been happy with a DH split and that's what happened. The lackluster offense in Game 1 cost them though.... we can split hairs about how AJ used Miller and Foley all we want, but you cannot stake your pitching staff to 1-0 leads and expect them to win all the time.2 points

Tigers went 9-4 against Cleveland last year. Hopefully it was the start of a trend.1 point

I hope the bad old days when we could lose 18 games a year to Cleveland will never happen again. There needs to be some serious karmic payback to make up for that. I’m not hoping for something like out of “Fallout.“ I would just like to see us win more than we lose against Cleveland.1 point

I hope some of the guys that have been struggling can put some good wood on the ball at Yankee Stadium and regain a feel for that.1 point

Shoulda swept. 😁 But Perez looks legit. Nice catch in right field. The kid has only been playing the OF since spring training? This last spring? If so, that's pretty amazing. He'll only get better!1 point

I've never ever heard him referred to D-No. Perhaps the players did as they tend to do that kind of thing on the field... but reporters shouldnt. What an embarassment.1 point

Blood, Sweat and Tears. Amazing arrangements, D C Thomas' voice is still a one in a million. Sort of like hearing the Beatles now, it's hard to orient to how ground breaking the sound was in '671 point

Don't you know that players win games but managers lose them? It's all over this forum, not sure how you could'of missed it1 point

You said something that was false and you could just say, "I forgot about that one". I'm fine with you cleaning up your false statement however you see fit, it's a you problem, not a me problem.1 point

This should not be in the gaza war thread but in the gun thread, but nationally we have had advancements in gun control and their protest was not a failure.1 point

For some reason when I see those kids I'm reminded of an anecdote I heard about the people in Texas who want to secede from the US and some old timer asks "If we secede will I still get my social security checks".1 point

Assuming this story is on the level about its effectiveness, this is a great idea and hopefully all schools will be doing this soon. I can’t think of any real down sides to this. Read the story in a private window on your favorite browser.1 point

I totally agree with you Cardinal. I've been saying this amongst friends and on here. What separates Holmes from other Lion's GM's and other current NFL GM's are the moves to get relevant and pro bowl players in spots that you're not supposed to. I don't remember a GM in recent Detroit sports history that is as complete and can find talent that others can't. Stevie looks like he has it from some of the Wings picks (and Tampa) although until they make the playoffs you can't even put him in the same category. The obvious picks aren't going to win you championships in the NFL. I actually think the most important picks to be relevant for a long time, are the depth picks because in the NFL, there are always injuries. The depth picks also allow you to let some guys go that are really good to great players although you can't pay everyone.1 point

The Tigers should make Matt Manning their closer. His pitches are good enough to get just about any MLB lineup out the first time through the batting order. From the fourth inning on, Manning fails miserably.1 point

Homer for Greene. Ya' know... I would just love to see Greene put this team on his back, offensively, and go on a 1.200+ OPS tear for about 6 weeks or so... I thought he might have been a guy who could do that...1 point

I was skeptical but Perez has earned some more frequent playing time.1 point

The situation as Dickerson alluded to on the radio, is that there are 3 games within 24 hours. Obviously nobody is pitching in both games today. If Foley goes too many pitches today, that takes him out for tomorrow as well. Personally I think he was in for 4 batters if Chafin got through the first 2 of the 8th. So maybe Foley goes 20 pitches and can be used tomorrow. Obviously that didn't work out. Now, I do think maybe Hinch got a little greedy. You try to win the game at hand. So, I can see trotting Foley out there again in the 9th. But, there are no guarantees that he saves it. The Cardinals have looked pretty blah and the Tiger bullpen has been pretty good. So, maybe there is room to save Foley for tomorrow. Sometimes these decisions are more hazy than they are black and white. I didn't find my inner voice arguing against pulling Foley as I was listening to the game, so I'm probably not entitled to complain about the decision.1 point

It's an election year and these kids or being influenced by disinformation from the likes of Russia and Iran. It's also no coincidence these protests escalated at a Manhattan university the moment Trump's Manhattan trial started.1 point

Thing with Keith is at least his AB's/approach actually look pretty good for the most part and he makes decent contact, he just cant seem to get any hits yet...whereas Tork and Meadows look lost at the plate with consistently bad approaches. And I cant handle much more watching those two just take fastballs right down the middle early in counts.1 point

I read up a bit on him when Harris signed him. I was very happy with the signing. His story is interesting. He fell out of favor with a lot of the Cardinals fan base as he was apparently outspoken in favor of the BLM movement during the height of the national unrest. I still think he’s got upside from here. Glad he’s a Tiger. His hero is Bob Gibson. Not a bad choice.1 point
