  1. I missed this game because I was taking the 2-hr. drive from my friend’s place in the mountains up north back to Boise and phone coverage was spotty so I didn’t even try to follow the game and I’m glad it turned out like this. What a treat. My friend’s place is in Donnelly, Idaho and it’s a very modest 120-year-old cottage built by Finnish pioneers who moved here after fighting in the Spanish-American War. This is the view from the second floor of the mountains behind the place.

  3. I wish the Biden campaign would focus on Trump being a narcissist and educating people about narcissism. You can find so much evidence in what Trump says and does that shows he only cares about himself, he's never wrong, it's everyone else's fault, he accuses other people of what he is guilty of (the I know you are but what am I defense), he's out of touch with reality and he's enraged if he's called out on anything. He has no feelings, no remorse, no values and no ethics. He projects what he thinks people want him to be. Inside he is a vulnerable, immature kid who is afraid of everything.

  5. 12/11, 12:10 pm text from @microline133 "I'd kind of like to see Fetter get a shot with Jack Flaherty." December 20: Jack Flaherty signs with the Tigers. First two months: Flaherty looks like an ace.

  6. I blame a lot of the heat on these wannbe fanboys who are all over twitter hyping up the local team to be better than they really are so casual fans set their expectations too high. The org didn't talk playoffs for a reason. Sure in a weak division a near .500 team could contend but we're seeing the ALC is not weak. It's not the fault of Scott Harris that 3 other teams are playing better than reasonably expected so our .500 team is good for fourth place. They'd be around 2nd place in 3 other divisons.

  9. you may be right and i may be crazy, but this is not out of the blue for him. he was really, really good his first 2 full years in STL. seen as the future ace to build around. this is what a healthy Flaherty looks like. who one knows how long his health will last.

  11. Not really. Appeals are all law based, not fact based. The appeal will be about whether the jury instructions were proper, or whether certain witnesses should have been allowed to say certain things. Merchan will have guidelines for the sentence and then discretion to go up or down. If he uses it, and goes above the guidelines, then that can be reviewed for abuse of that discretion. He would have to make a very clear record as to why he was going above the guidelines. But that appeal would only apply to the sentence, not the conviction.

  18. Trump is a narcissist and having a jury say he is guilty must be sending his rage through the roof. He's not in touch with reality and the more reality punches him in the face, the more unhinged he will get. No matter what he's sentenced to, he will be furious. Imagine Trump doing community service.

  23. Currently on my nightstand. The Demon of Unrest by Eric Lawson. I'm still in the early portion of the book (just after the 1860 Presidential Election) but this is as good as Devil in the White City and In the Garden of Beasts. The time between the election and the shelling of Fort Sumpter. From the forward. "I was well into my research on the saga of Fort Sumter and the advent of the American Civil War when the events of January 6, 2021 took place. As I watched the Capitol assault unfold on camera, I had the Erie feeling that present and past had merged. It is unsettling that in 1861 two of the greatest moments of national dread centered on the certification of the Electoral College vote and the presidential inauguration"

  24. agree. If Chris Ilitch was going to be a no nothing owner content to rake in as much cash flow with as little effort as possible he would not have approved the hirings that went on. They just brought on some people a few weeks ago, along with those made in the past year or so, and throw in Jason Benetti while you are at it.... those aren't cheap hires and could have easily not been made and the general public wouldn't have noticed or cared.
