  1. It would be hard for me to say no to Holliday, Mayo plus if that were the return despite the fact I love Skubal. The fact is that guys like Skubal typically aren't elite for long periods of time anymore. For every Verlander there are a dozen Stephen Strasburgs so if we can get multiple elite position players who should be effective if not great for us for atleast the next half dozen years it would be hard to say no to.

  2. This may be Flaherty’s last start as Tiger. For everyone’s sake involved, I hope he has a really good outing.

  5. No chance, and we don’t want that, since it will motivate people more to wanna throw her out of office. And we want Biden to make it at least to Election Day. Setting aside the sheer human awfulness of it, if Biden died before the election, I wonder whether Kamala would get a sympathy bump. I think it helped LBJ, although obviously different circumstances. Can barely imagine how crass the Republicans would be in response.

  7. Today is the anniversary of the "pine tar game". 1983...Billy Martin knew about the pine tar and kept that fact in his back pocket to use at the right time. Lol...I remember watching the game live at my mom's house. I was 23 years old.

  8. Jobe is ready to pitch in the big leagues right now. He’d be our 3rd best pitcher immediately. The innings he required can happen in the minors or majors—it doesn’t matter. Regardless, he desperately needs them—he’s thrown less than 40 so far. He would also be learning daily from the best pitching coach and pitchers in the organization. The only reasons not to promote him now are if they think he has a fragile psyche and/or service time manipulation. I wouldn’t promote him just so we can win more games this year—I’d promote him to further his development.

  9. Nope, I don't think they find a taker for Urshela. I suspect Ibanez' platoon vs LHP and salary are enticing as an acquisition. And as far as his trade value, now is the time to move him.

  11. I think Harris is smart and understands player value and won't make a deal that hurts the team. I don't know if he's bold and creative enough where he can make a big deal like this though. My feeling is that he is cautious and risk averse , but I don't really know yet. That wouldn't be a terrible thing. Not everyone can be Dave Dombrowski.

  14. I don't get the constant drive to swap away every player that starts producing. Isn't the whole point to develop players who produce so you can have them on *your* team? In baseball the grass is almost never actually greener on the other side.

  15. That's a nice start... But the Tigers are missing at least 3 more prospects on their side of the ledger...

  17. Odds are still -115/-105. So what have we learned? The books love the under. Duh. But this also kills the myth that books want a balanced book. If true they would have moved the under line to draw more money to that side. The first time I really noticed this was the Mayweather-McGreger flight. The public was on Conner big time and the line stayed about +600. With all that money on Conner it should have dropped to about even. But Vegas knew Conner had no shot bearing a boxer at boxing. So they left the line high and let the book go uneven. Same thing here. They really think the pistons won't win 25 games so they see no reason to move the line to get even money on the under.

  19. Ah, gotcha. Yes, on this, of course. Agree 100%. Quality side = Skubal won't be traded unless Harris is happy with the top guys. Whether that's Holliday, or Basallo & Mayo, or whomever fits within the "must have quality" part of the deal... It will need to be that high a level of quality or Harris just says no. On the quantity side, it will need to be both quality and quantity. Basallo, Mayo, Kjerstad, Povitch, AND Cam Weston just might be too much of an ask for Skubal... But I don't believe that's too far off. And even if Holliday isn't in there (Baltimore most likely will flat out refuse to trade their #1 guy... and the #1 in baseball (according to some)); would you (meaning anyone in here) pass up that trade package for Skubal? Which has both quality AND quantity (I think BOTH will be an absolute requirement).

  20. I probably should qualify that I’ve been watching the Hard Knocks: NY Giants that focuses solely on front office activities. Their GM is very much a little bitch when it comes to these negotiating conversations. That’s definitely in the back of my head. Harris strikes me as a guy more in tune with the scouting and development areas much more than the negotiations and bargaining side of the business. That’s the part that my gut thinks he sucks at. I’m not talking about the entire job as Pres/GM (at least not yet..).

  21. I see the Mariners' line up is disintegrating. Canha and Urshela for Emerson Hancock. Tigers get controllable #5 SP who lacks swing and miss stuff to crack Ms rotation.

  22. But it seems to me that there are several versions of BLM run by several different people with differing agendas. There is no name representing it and until it gets organized that way, can it be taken all that seriously? I think this was brought up in the TV series "Newsroom" when Jeff Daniels challenged a 99%'er by saying You have no face, you have no message. You need to congeal your movement into one message with one spokesperson and a few surrogates - or else you're all just yelling into the wind. That's BLM. There are realistic and pragmatic wings and there are radical wings. And the radical wing will never be happy with anything anyone ever does. I understand why they exist, but the execution is a mess. They need their MLK. They needs someone that speaks for them with one unifying message and that doesn't seem to be happening. So what is BLM? It's an acronym with a bunch of people yelling into the wind. If they are not happy, they can run their own candidate. See, the problem wasn't the job Biden has done. He's done an excellent job. Has he botched a few things? Yes, he's human, but overall he's done a very good job and that work needs to continue, but seeing his debate performance and his slowing physical movements in recent months, it was clouding the message. Now the legacy can continue with someone more vibrant and inspiring for a wide swath of younger voters. He simply is too old for a second term. It's just the truth. That job ages people and he was older to begin with - so passing the torch to the VP, which is a little unusual, makes perfect sense. It's like a logo re-branding, with the product being the same - you just needed to modernize. They have and it has galvanized the movement and completely cut the legs out from under the singular Republican strategy of "HE'S OLD!". Actually, it's flipped it on it's head. Both Trump and Biden are too old but now only Trump has to deal with that. The new Republican strategy of the whole DEI thing is only working with the people that are already on board. Let them continue on that path.

  24. No, he makes a valid point. Not having the innings is not an argument for being in the Majors or Minors. He’s either capable of getting MLB hitters out or not yet. This is even more true on the pitching side where arms tend to be injuries waiting to happen.

  25. BLM never liked Harris because she was a prosecutor. This goes back to the 2020 primary. BLM has become a corrupted organization that got co-opted by white leftists.

  26. yeah I don't really get it. There isn't really a process for what's unfolding, so there isn't a process of excluding anyone. Maybe there is and it's subtle/hidden IDK but I saw what seemed to be a lot of Dems that could make a pretty substantial challenge to Harris if they wanted to do so decide not to do it on their own volition.

  27. I'm feeling a lot better today than I was last Friday. There's massive energy now. The VP pick is important. I like Kelly because he was in the military (and Trump insults the military) but he's also a great speaker who has some clout when it comes to immigration and he's for sensible gun control while still being a 2nd amendment supporter and when he talks about that it has meaning. He leans a little more conservative than Kamala, which is a good thing, you don't need a carbon copy like Trump/Vance. There's about to be a Youthquake. And guys like Trump (and many Republican men) don't like strong, smart or confident women - because they're horribly insecure. They're pathetic. Let them keep attacking. I agree with that statement Let Their Racism (and Misogyny) Be YOUR Rocket Fuel. BLAST OFF ! It's so enjoyable to see them freaking out. Makes them look so weak and unprepared.

  28. That's NOT how I read that article. The very first sentence, in the second paragraph, explicitly states: "the Orioles might ALSO... be sellers." So the two are separate. A big trade (for Skubal, for example) with top prospects, but ALSO trade Mullins and Mountcastle because they have so many damn high upside prospects that they need to make room for any of those that are not traded. That's exactly how I read what they've written and I don't see any other way to take that. That's great... But they are STILL short a few prospects on the Tigers side, even if Holliday is a superior get. They are NOT trading Skubal and Foley 1-for-1, basically, a prospect each. I mean, seriously? Do you actually believe that? I'm sorry but... not even close. Not happening.

  31. That's why the only thing fans can do is trust the Scott Harris team. Unnamed scouts are the key. Who are the scouts in Tampa? Those are the baseball types Harris hopefully has in place, helping him to make good baseball decisions. Fans (me included) need to remember he hasn't even been here 2 years. Realistically, his teams should start competing by 2026 or 2027. (I'm impatient)

  32. PS: After Dingler went 3-3 with the 2 HR's and a single... They decided to just start walking him... So 3-3 plus 3 BB's... Sitting right now at .299 and an .899 OPS... Trade Kelly. Give Dingler his shot...

  33. Jack is a big union guy, so I would be very shocked if he did not go into free agency and get a jackpot contract. I doubt it, but that contract could be with Detroit.

  34. Should we bank on that ever happening? And is it a long term problem? Vierling is going to be candidate to move after 2025 anyway and Malloy is probably your DH. Or maybe Perez fizzles out. But I think you have to give guys like Wenceel a more serious shot to build their value than the Tigers have been prone to do in the past if the Rays are going to be your template.

  36. Following up…. John Tyler had the most kids of any president. 8 with his first wife. With his second, Julia Gardner he had seven. One of those, Lyon, who John had when he was 63, had a son when he was 65 who is still alive today. John Tyler had a daughter who died 157 years after he died.

  38. Thing with Biden's age is that he might still be sharp mentally but watching him move was not encouraging. Did you see the movie The Irishman? They de-aged Robert DeNiro in several scenes. Then they used what was supposed to be 40-year old DeNiro beating up someone at a grocery store, but instead of using a body double for the long shot, they used DeNiro, who did not move like anyone under 70 and it was the biggest bum note in the movie.
