  1. I guess there was a group at the Minnesota State Fair called Never Walz to hand out anti-Walz material. However they forgot to register the domain. Somebody else has. https://www.neverwalz.com

  2. hell, I start getting itchy for the games to start around 3:00 (now-ish my time), and I'm an hour west of you. I've really gotten to like having it wrapped up by around 6-6:30 PM so I can focus on other ways to waste time all evening.

  3. He drove home Al Kaline with the winning run that clinched the 1968 pennant " Don wert singles..Kaline scores, the fans are streaming on the field, and the Tigers have won their first pennant since 1945..let's listen to the bedlam at Tiger Stadium"....I can hear it like Ernie is reciting it here in my office.

  4. DPJ did not find himself in a crowded reveiver room, he was practically given the job when they (correctly) let reynolds walk. and he played half-hearted football. he deserved to be cut. he was probably the best pure athlete michigan has had at receiver in quite some time and he has been nothing but a disappointment in college and the pros. sayonara. someone might give him another chance because he is such a good athlete, but he's running out of time. hope he saved his money.

  5. In all seriousness, I think framing is more gaming than cheating, since there’s no rule against it, there’s an expectation catchers are going to do it, and umpires are presumably on guard against the most egregious attempts. OTOH, Gaylord Perry doctoring the ball? Charming or not, that’s definitely cheating. There is a rule against that, the expectation is that pitchers won’t try to break the rule, and umpires shouldn’t have to be super vigilant against it.

  6. LLWS championship game about to start. Jiayo, Taiwan, jiayo. If it’s tied after 7 innings, I think the tiebreaker should be a math quiz.

  7. “Feels like 101°.” That’s pretty tough at guaranteed rate field. After having countless weeks of 100° plus weather and smoky skies from forest and range fires it’s only 67° in Boise Idaho today and the sky is clear and it’s freaking awesome and I don’t have Covid anymore.

  8. I agree with you there. I came of age during the 80s and I thought he was awful, though he was a good salesman. I think I really became anti-Republican in the late 80s when they started going after single mothers. Single mothers are the ones who stuck around. The fathers bolted. The mothers were the tough ones. Women are not usually physically stronger than men, but they are WAY tougher than men.

  9. And now we have the "Dinosaur Don and Neanderthal Vance" ticket... Interesting... But not in a good way.

  15. I also just noticed that with the three games the Tigers play in San Diego in September, there’s an off day on Tuesday inserted into the middle of the series. On that day I hope no one gets arrested for getting into a fight at a strip club or something. Or they head down to Tijuana and do something dumb that makes headlines.

  18. Ha. Good catch. That is a pretty dopey thing to do. Might’ve been on purpose while horsing around. I remember the photographs of cards of Juan Marichal in the early 60s where he’s always wearing a rain slicker because the weather in Candlestick Park sucked. That may not have been horsing around. I don’t know if it’s a tall tale but I remember hearing that wind gusts could knock a pitcher off the mound there. Hard to believe it took three ballots for Marichal to get into the Hall of Fame.

  19. I like to see them get hits and prevent hits in a fashion that indicates they would do it again next year enough to be gooder.

  21. I have no problem excising any fundy baby mentality among my associates. Just no time for that crap. I like a tough Michigan chick as a boss or as a companion. They knew what you were when you were a snotnose, they know they can see your BS. Many are pretty acceptable as people as well. I married one, she's great.

  22. I thought maybe today was a makeup day but it was a scheduled game. I really don't ever remember a 4 game series ending on a Monday. Jason called it a wraparound series like it's been done before but it seems pretty strange.

  26. that's how I see it. If a catcher "frames" a ball into being called a strike... that's on the umpire for missing the call. Not the player.

  27. From Reddit so I apologize for the language (name of subreddit). I truly would love to have lunch with Cavuto just to listen to him talk about his experience at FoxNews. He was like this back when I would occasionally watch Fox, glad to see he's still like this.

  28. I think for many who are involved with fall sports school starts in August anyway.... with practices and all that. It leaves less time in the summer to plan vacations. And with younger kids parents are like "Ok, go back already... I love you but I'm also kind of sick of you...."

  29. I always say that development is the key, not just "scouting". Prospect lists are just names and most on that list will not pan out. Good organizations make good/great players more than they find good/great players. They are not finished products when you get your hands on them.

  39. I think they pick up the option. Unnecessarily fighting (I know he hasn't "proven his worth" for that option to be picked up...) over that money I think engenders bad blood and I just don't see that small amount worth it to antagonize not just Mize... but the rest of the guys who will see it happening. It's just not worth it IMO. Pick up the option.

  40. Speaking of the Tigers 19 game losing streak in 1975, I was able to figure out which game I was at. Loss #16 in a row, vs the Rangers on 8/11/75. For decades I tried to figure out the game where I saw first-baseman Jack Pierce drop a foul pop up right by first base. A ball most any little leaguer could have caught. Turns out that error was during this streak. Top of 8th, Toby Harrah popped up foul against Tom Walker. Pierce just dropped it. I can still see it. I don't think he had to move 10 feet. Just dropped the darn thing. Found this site, gives play by play for games that far back https://www.backtobaseball.com/game/DET197508110/detroit-tigers/versus/texas-rangers/1975/august/11/lineups-and-summary/
