  1. Tigers tied with Houston for best record in AL over last 70 games (basically last 50% of season played to date). Also tied for best AL record since July 1. Also from August 1. They have done this with one of the youngest teams in MLB. To think that it’s premature to invest heavily in the team starting next year is, frankly, malpractice. The opportunity is there. I hope Illitch/Harris seize it.

  3. Yep. Trump could call Harris the N-word and the headlines will read: "Harris unable to clarify her ethnicity."

  4. if Minnesota goes 9-9, the Tigers need to go 13-5. Gotta pick those games up somewheres. Hosting Colorado and their dismal 22-53 road record is an opportunity to do that.

  9. would that that ever still happens. It's probably one of those things that can't be generalized. If you have a highly militarized outlook PD and you put a hard ass member in a school who never interacts in any other manner that's not a recipe for police-community relations success. The issue of the militarization of policing is bigger and broader than SROs. It's in large part a direct and I believe inevitable consequence of US gun culture.

  10. I think they are just selling the current situation rather than saying "Well the guys we tried stink..." Always talk up your current group as if that's what you wanted. Until you move them. Be "happy" for who you have for the "ball club".

  18. I don’t understand the people that aren’t going to watch because they hate Trump. This is the exact reason that you should watch! It’s possible this debate could be the end for him. A bad debate made Biden look old and unfit and it’s possible the same happens to old, old Donnie. Kamala is going to run circles around him and make it him look foolish. I wouldn’t put it past him to get so unhinged tonight that he puts the nail in his own coffin.

  19. Why is Sweeney a bench player after about 50 AB’s in MLB? I think he’s in the SS mix and a viable bridge to McGonigle and Rainer. Also, not convinced that Malloy doesn’t have a future role.

  23. I wrote at the end of OT that Montgomery was mad they stopped calling his number in the second half. And he deserved to be mad. He ran hard in the first half, including picking up a first down in a short yardage situation where he had been hit behind LOS and turned upside down but just kept churning his legs to get beyond the marker. Only got three carries in the second. It is hard to imagine anyone running more angry than he did in OT. He is a stud.

  24. Assuming 13 position players: OF: Greene, Meadows, Carp, Vierling locks IF: Jung, Keith locks (I say Jung because Vierling can take over/platoon if he doesn’t develop). Catcher: Dingler and Rogers locks Need a full time 1B and SS. Bench: Ibanez fits this team perfect, given ability to play 2B and 3B and platoon with Carp. Not perfect player but good fit. Need someone who can play shortstop. McKinstry is underrated (1.3 WAR) and Sweeney also fits best on bench. Both probably redundant on a playoff team. Worst case is one is starting SS if no FA/trade. Need another OF that can play some defense. Perez not a perfect player but solid roster fit. Would be great for him to (re)develop at 2B. Malloy and Tork both negative WAR, brutal defense, and in the case of Tork decline BB rate, avg EV, and increasing K rate. Both only fit as a PH and platoon 1B/DH against lefties. Would need to drop someone like Perez, go short on OF, to roster someone like that. Long way of me saying that neither Tork nor Malloy should be on the roster, unless we roll with Tork at 1B (god help us) or think we can drop someone like a Perez and roll with a RH bat that can’t field.

  26. I have no issue with SRO's. In fact while it was noted it that it isolates Brown and Black kids, I think they can be important specifically for this case. No different then cops walking the beat and getting acquainted with the community, that's a good thing. That said, they are not a solution for mass shootings at schools. Bulwark recently had a good conversation on focusing on reactive force to deal with these solutions. Spend a trillion dollars basically installing TSA style security (and for this arguments sake let's pretend that's really good security) and lock down schools, it just moves the opportunity for these shooters to the school parking lot, drop off/pick up, outside school events.

  28. @ game 145 1962 Mets 35-110 (they actually had a tie that season) 2003 Tigers 37-108 2024 White Sux 33-112 In order to avoid breaking the Mets 40-120-1 record, The White Sux have go go 7-10 the rest of the way. (technically they would break the Mets record even if they get to 40 wins because they'd go 40-122), but I don't want them reaching 40 wins............I hate White Sox fans. Yeah, yeah, yeah........"DE-TROIT SUCKS!" Doesn't have quite the impact when there's 250 people at a game chanting it. Last 17, I think they'll go 4-13. I think they finish at 37-125. Nashville doesn't even want ya.

  29. Harris has added 2 SPs each winter, so IMO he does so again; 1 established guy, 1 fixer-upper. But, he must get a power reliever (or 2). Top 13 batters w/no changes: Rogers/Dingler, Tork, Keith, Sweeney/Baez, Jung/Ibanez, Greene/Meadows/Carpenter, Vierling, Malloy. Shopping list/areas to improve 1B - replace Tork, or have someone who can slide to 1B if he flops again SS - need to find someone better than Kreidler if you want to replace Baez 3B - Jung's approach is solid, but 0 HRs and iffy D so far DH - Malloy is crushing LHP but probably not enough to offset defensive limitations C Walker, W Adames, A Bregman, M Chapman, T O'Neill, A Santander are FAs who would provide real impact. Christian Encarnacion-Strand (1B/3B/DH) and Oswald Peraza (SS) are some trade targets IMO.

  41. I’m sharing this with y’all right now. I’m in Jeckyll island Georgia for a cousins trip. Recently one of my wife’s cousins was diagnosed with ALS. That prompted them all to plan a trip here for her. There’s 22 of us here. She’s progressed to the point where she’s wheelchair bound. Today we convinced her to let us get her into the pool at the resort. I was one that happened to be thwarted to hang on to her as she got in and to carry her around. She started giggling. I asked if she was ok and she said yes, she’s loving it. I will never ever forget that for the rest of my life and feel honored to be fortunate enough to have been able to give her that joy. Live your live and cherish it every moment.
