  1. I will assume that means if a strange man approached your wife, daughter or mother and grabbed her pussy and forcibly kissed her against her will, you would shrug that off as stupid and vulgar and be totally cool with it? Am I understanding that correctly?

  2. If a newspaper doesn't want to do endorsement, that's fine. The problem is that WaPo has already made endorsements in all the other VA and MD federal office elections so instead of a principled decision to change a policy before an electoral cycle stared, you have an obvious putsch by ownership to overrule his own staff and cut off a process that had already run nearly to completion for this election cycle. So instead of being a expression of principle, it's simply an admission of that Bezos is willing to prioritize his other business interests over the editorial integrity of his newspaper. A guy like that should probably sell to someone else - unfortunately for the public, newspapers don't make enough money for anyone likely to be editorially independent to be interested.

  4. He is right, and the folks saying "well, no one cares about endorsements" are missing the point; the billionaire owner telling the board what they can and can not put out there 10 days before this particular election was never not going to cause controversy. I personally don't care about paper endorsements, but it's pretty clear what happened here and, at least in my view, really hits at the issue of trust.

  5. The Washington Post made it official.... overall editorials aren't really meaningful that much anymore, I get that, but the way they spiked this led me to cancel my subscription. Just not going to contribute to that.

  6. Manning, Mize and Torkelson. Trade them all for good (per our evaluaters) low level minor leaguers to clear room on the 40. They gave us next to nothing during our run and postseason so they will not be missed so continue to back fill the pipeline.

  8. One of the football accounts I follow on Twitter brought up a point about the Vikings defense. He said with gadgety type defenses that Flores uses that relies more on different blitz packages and less on actual talent tend to get worse as the season goes on when teams get more and more film on them and make the proper adjustments. Let's see if that plays out that way this year, judging by the last 2 weeks that could end up being the case.

  9. I would say don't worry about Keith's power, it's in there, definitely enough for 1B if the OBP ticks up. And yes, I pushed Tork off a cliff but don't worry, I sent Brieske home with his outright release 3 years ago.

  13. I’m really saddened by the passing of Fernando Valenzuela. It feels personal. When I spent six months recuperating from a bad motorcycle accident in 1982 and couldn’t go anywhere I listened to all 162 of Vin Scully’s broadcasts which was the only baseball available in Tucson, Arizona and Fernando was a big part of that. The Dodgers ended this season, I think, one game out of first place behind the Atlanta Braves, and I was honestly disappointed. It’s not like Ernie Harwell’s broadcast could reach all the way from Detroit to Tucson. So, for one year I was a Dodgers fan and a huge Fernando fan. Then of course in 1984 and no longer laid up and fully recovered I was able follow our own season as well as possible from such great distance — and with three new friends who’d recently moved from Detroit to Tucson — I forgot all about the Dodgers easily. But forgetting Fernando is hard. I will easily pull for the Yankees in the World Series, though, simply because of Sue.

  14. I don't know if the allegations are true or not, and the evidence is thin. The story will go nowhere as always. But if I'm being honest with myself, knowing what I know about the guy, there's zero chance he hasn't done some really bad stuff with women over the years. And with Access Hollywood, he's been on tape admitting it. And he's currently paying out to EJ Carroll because of one incident as well.

  15. Newspapers have been issuing editorials since before the printing press was invented. A discerning reader can tell the difference between the news section and the opinion pages. The fact that the owner of the paper overruled his editorial board should be News. Bezos capitulated to Trump. That is news.

  16. I have no problem with the Washington Post not allowing the endorsement. That is not the job of newspapers. Their job should be to report unbiased news. A stupid endorsement is not going to change anything anyway. I like Amazon Prime and will continue to use it.

  17. For those wondering why "big business" would collaborate with those offering death camps - the capitulation of the Washington Post to Trump - who hasn't even been elected yet - should be your answer. Big business always works hand in hand with Fascism.

  18. I literally can't think of anything that would change any Trump cult members' minds at this point. They could have him on tape raping a 10 year old boy, calling his supporters stupid, pooping his pants, screaming Glory to Allah. It wouldn't change a thing.

  25. I'm sure SSN would be part of the equation, although I don't think federal courts would uphold a federal voter ID law. But if you want to make people chase the state around for ID, and also, leave confirmation up to poll worker discretion to accept or reject people on the spot instead of an airtight depersonalized confirmation system, then we part company on those.

  26. I'd work with that. But keep in mind your SS card is not considered an ID per the SS Administration.

  28. Yes, and sniffing kids' hair, too. It's mainly the attitude... that women are oversized children who of course need the guidance and firm but calming discipline from men. It doesn't always mean literally patting them on the head, though that's a stereotypical dismissive gesture that's seen with children. TBH it's best to keep your hands to yourself with people you don't know very well.

  32. I could be talked into it with the following conditions, at minimum: Voter ID is made available, proactively by the state and at taxpayers' expense, to every eligible voting citizen, bar none. Citizens eligible to vote should not have to bust their humps to try to obtain voter ID, and they should not be priced out of voting. Every voter should be required to have their ID and voting status confirmed at the voting booth, no exceptions. No getting a pass from the poll workers because they "know" you. They cannot have the personal discretion to approve or reject you on the spot. Your ID MUST be confirmed, no exceptions. If I show up, or you show up, or Donald Trump shows up, and the voter ID cannot be confirmed, then no vote. Period. No exceptions. And ID has to be confirmed somehow before vote-by-mail or online vote is allowed. Maybe there are more conditions I would need to see to be talked into it, but these are the first two I can think of off the top of my head. I'm not sure how these could be implemented, especially #2. Is voter ID a physical card? Can it be located on your phone like your medical card? Is there a counter-check on the poll worker's side to positively confirm, like a scanner gun tied to a state database? Can voters be processed as quickly as they are under no-voter-ID rules? How the heck can ID be confirmed for mail-in or online voting? I don't know, but just because I can't plan out and articulate exactly how these would work to a 100% complete degree to you right now in this post, does not mean they shouldn't be conditions in the first place. But my thing is, until these conditions can be locked down airtight, I don't think voter ID should be a requirement anywhere. Because the whole voter ID thing is far too easy to use as a tool to keep certain eligible voters the politicians in power don't like, or the poll workers don't like, from being able to cast a vote. Figure this out to my satisfaction, and you may have me on board with you.

  36. The other piece of context that needs to be considered with early voting (and probably why, outside of Nevada and Ralston, it's dangerous to read too far into it unless you do this stuff for a living), is that turnout methods are changing; R's have embraced early voting methods more versus 2020 and 2022, which is resulting in people who previously voted *on* EDay to be captured in early voting this time around. Ralston's blog mentions it happening in NV, but it's also happening to varying degrees in the other states, particularly in PA, NC and GA (with white voters; GA doesn't have party registration but white voters are used as somewhat of a proxy for Rs) The result of this is that it changes the dynamic or expectations of why EDay is like.... and makes comparing what happened in 2020 or (to a lesser extent) 2022 more of a fools errand.

  37. I know he isn't your prototypical high end guy that is dancing around people, but I do think Michael Brandsegg-Nygård at least has injected some offensive skill into their prospect ranks. His shot is going to play in the NHL and he looks like a beast on the forecheck who likes to hit. I think that skill set will play well in the current NHL on the offensive side because his shot is so good. Other than that it is a lot of projection so I can't disagree with you. They have guys like Plante's playmaking ability that could translate but other than that, not much. I do think Raymond will pick it up again, I expect him to be more like the player last year than what he's shown so far.

  38. I was looking back on the 1982 season of the Dodgers, which I inadvertently followed closely on radio in Tucson that season, and it was such a different kind of baseball than we know today. First of all Fernando started 37 games. Nobody does that anymore. It was still the era of the four-man rotation. He pitched 285 innings and had 18 CG’s. Sheesh. Everybody aside from the catcher and an outfielder played 150 games or more with of course Garvey doing 162. I’m going to count Dusty Baker’s 147 games as 150, rounding it up. Not much platooning. Doesn’t look like there was a lot of “overmanaging“ going on. Nobody struck out over 100 times. Most were striking out 60 times and everybody was walking 50 to 60 times. Garvey was of course the outlier and only able to walk 20 times in 162 games. Nobody was striking out one guy per inning as a rule. The game is just so different now.

  39. I’m gonna assume that he 1.) he battled some injuries this year so they didn’t want to push him and 2.) he wasn’t improving on what they set out for him to work on so they weren’t going to reward it. 10 HRA in 69 IPs at Toledo is more of the same of what he struggled with last year.

  40. I didn't say they were the violent side. I said the violence MAY be instigated by the left. If we get a right wing sweep, there won't be much reason for the right to get violent. It will start out as protests, but protests can get violent. It won't sit well with a lot of people that the President atempted a coup four years before. Lots of people on the left have weapons. 20% of Democrats own guns, and it only takes a fraction of a percent to make trouble. But there is one reason we might not have much violence. Men are the violent ones and the majority of the men in the country will be thrilled by a Trump presidency.
