I don't watch cable news anymore, but how on earth did a "For You" level Twitter guy like Girdusky end up on their airways???3 points

So, with a Dodgers sweep, this could start on Wednesday. Let’s get the brooms out and get the offseason started.3 points

No, the police determined he was celebrity and released him. Police misconduct is the definition of news.2 points

If the Lions traded for all the players fans wanted them to trade for in the past, they wouldn’t have any picks to trade for a pass rusher now.2 points

Situation at WaPo still in a weird place. Bezos has written his defense of his action - it all parses fine except that if he was serious about the approach he claims, where was he a year ago when it needed to be implemented in a way that would not create the very appearance of bias he claims to be trying to eliminate. I think the problem at work with Bezos and at CNN and many other news operations, is that they see that they are not trusted and they think that's because their coverage is skewed so they try to bring in more "balance" by increasing RW representation, but the RW in the US is so stewed in their false narrative reality that it can't work to have those people in the same room with the people trying to tell the truth. What a guy like Bezos has to learn, hopefully before he destroys the Post, is that the problem is not his paper not telling enough truth, it's a public that doesn't want truth, and he won't solve that problem by making his paper trim its sails or incorporate more false shading to pander to that audience or to appeal to people who are intellectually aligned in opposition to the mission of all good journalism. Sure any paper can tighten up and be more accurate, they all have a tendency to get out over their skis chasing twitter virii that turn out to be misinfo, and he can change that by rewarding accuracy over 'scoops' if he cares to, but that's not their biggest problem. Maybe the best thing American newspapers could do would be to take on the role that American educators seem to have abandoned, which would be to use their papers to teach a little American civics on the side every day. Bezos could endow a desk at WaPo to write pieces on political history, economics, tied it to current events but not necessarily to any real time reporting. I bet it's exactly the kind of thing a modern newspaper would probably love to do but cant afford.2 points

The Tampa Bay game was the result of not having your offensive players play at all in the preseason. They were just out of sync that day. I understand why they don't play them, you want them being healthy and not risking a major injury, but there is a price to pay. I think the difference was that Baker & Co actually had played a bit. But there's another reason they lost that game -- because Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson shouldn't have jobs. They should have been fired a long time ago. Do you realize that yesterday they had 5 series when they didn't score? Do you realize that Aaron Glenn just let Tennessee score at will? These are 6-11 coaches who are just lucky.2 points

I like this idea. I’d bet Montgomery has a nice bounce back season if he’s beyond his health issues. The Arizona experience hasn’t gone well for him.2 points

Richardson was the youngest starting QB in the NFL last year. After getting hurt last year, he came into this year….. as the youngest starting QB in the NFL. If the Colts didn’t think the kid needed coaching they were fooling themselves. He probably shouldn’t have started this season, and definitely shouldn’t have started last season. If anything the lesson to be learned is to not tap yourself out, but just go down. Then you have to go out one play.1 point

I think it's low chance worthy will go forward because the cop screw ups will make it insanely hard to prosecute. I think word went up who it was and they decided no. But that should have been irrelevant once he was arrested. Per procedure the next stop is jail. For this exact reason. (And note the supervisor was only called because when Jameson kept saying he was a lion the beat cops knew it get attention. It was only after that that it went up the chain and he was released. If Jameson said zero he would have been booked like the rest of us)1 point

Tp is literally the problem with people and Jameson. Now, this is a poster who will rip any or coach who takes a wrong step, or calls a pass instead of a run. But Jameson, it's just excuses and explaining it away Oh he's suspended for betting? Well it's a stupid rule. Ok, but it is a rule, he ignored it and chose to make those bets, nobody forced him. Oh he got popped for a banned substance? Well it's not even one, it's a potential masking agent used to treat ADD. Ok but he didn't follow those procedures outlined by the league and chose to put the substance in his body. Oh he's found with a gun under his seat. The cops got it wrong, even though procedure is clear that when someone is arrested they go to processing and officer discretion ends there. Ok you don't like the law, well it's the law and Jameson chose to go out late at night with his gun and put it under his seat. These were all decisions made by him. None were bad luck or timing, they were all his decision to violate the law/rules. At some point we have to try to stop explaining away his behavior with excuses just cause he's fast on a football field. He has missed games every year and his "bad" behavior is escalating. That Is the classice recipe for disaster. Just cut him.1 point

I do think there is a good chance they don't pick up his 5th year option.1 point

(c) the national polling models are correct and it's going to be a really close election with no clear winner. (d) the national models are wrong in the same way they were in 2016 and 2020 and Trump is going to win. At any rate, MTB flooding the forum with sunshine results for the Democrats does not increase my confidence in Harris winning. My default predicton is that Harrs will win a close race bcause Americans can't be that dumb, but they've disappointed me before!1 point

You work to create the best conditions you can. Create the foundation for lifting as many boats as possible. You can't have bad government in the United States because bad government exists in Afghanistan or Russia.1 point

Yes, but what is the gap? The point is you listed polls where Harris is ip by 20 points and there is no way she is leading by that much. I can't tell whether those are good results without seeing context.1 point

Those who are questioning Anthony Richardson's commitment after coming out of the game from being tired need to read about J.R. Richard and then maybe back off a bit. Be careful. You don't know what could be happening.1 point

I prefer Love play and isn't 100% than a healthy Willis. Willis has not looked bad in the earlier games. Although I don't think he has had to be great and your going to have to, to beat this Lions team. If I am GB, even though this is an important game, I let Love rest and get healthy.1 point

I’m listening to them too. I haven’t always like John Sterling and Suzy Walman but they grew on me. He is done after this year, not sure about her. This game has been something of a dud though.1 point

Same results as last year which isn't shocking since its pretty much the exact same team.1 point

The Lions don't have two first round picks in 2026, so it's literally an impossible trade. I'm sure the Browns would love to get three first round picks for Garrett.1 point

Road 111 goes from Chattanooga thru my family’s north of there but goes a bit east. Will be interested to know your route. One of favorite part of my trips down there is when I get off I-75. I will say this about our southern friends. It’s immediately evident how nice they are. I stop every 90 minutes to 2 hours and every person I encounter says hello and is gracious.1 point

We just can't get enough stops. It seems like Cade and Jaden have both made leaps that you want on offense but it doesn't matter. We are not going to win very many games against good teams.1 point

this is an awesome idea; Montgomery + Arizona's Competitive Balance Pick for Maeda. Tigers buy ~64th pick and get the better pitcher, all for $12.5M.1 point

I feel like if they're going to add help it needs to be very soon. If we want the help to be able to play against the Packers he needs to get in the building ASAP to get up to speed on the Lions scheme.1 point

He's not the only young goalie looking good in GR: I was really impressed with his lateral movement from what I've seen Amo has been on a heater so far this season: Buch looking good in Russia:1 point

Using our previous regimes is not a good reference. You have to have confidence in your GM and scouts and if they get it wrong it doesn't matter because its not like a bunch of FA's are going to save your team or make it a SB contender. The Lions aren't the only team that has become a good team after a bunch of draft picks. Just look recently at Houston and how quick they made the turnaround after trading Watson. Chicago should be better than they are. Their roster is a playoff team, just not sure their coaches are good enough1 point

I’ve long maintained that in many ways it’s easier to enjoy a really great game/series for what it is if you don’t have a rooting interest. You can savor the dramatic twists and turns without being wrapped up in the outcome. When the Tigers are involved, my preference will always be for a nice, boring blowout in favor of the good guys. Which I have to admit doesn’t make for very good sports theater.1 point
