Not gonna be a popular take, but I would want to fully understand the effect Riley Greene's injury history may have one his aging curve before going crazy on a long term extension.3 points

That is exactly what was said 45 years ago when Dave Parker (congrats on the HOF nod) became the first $1 million a year player.3 points

Maybe he wants to be “the guy.” He’d always be second fiddle to Aaron Judge with the Yanks.3 points

No game until Thursday is the perfect time to discus Beasley and his contract. A few things to know: He is not eligible for an extension The Pistons do not have his Bird rights. So they must use pure cap space to sign him again. There is no going over the cap to keep him. The Pistons do not have his early Bird rights. EBR let you go over the cap in a more limited manner than normal Bird rights. But they don't have these either. The blue highlighted cells are cap holds. They are something required for free agents. Once the Pistons renounce THJ they will get that $24M cap space back. But until they do they are sitting at $171M next year on a projected cap of $154.6M. So with THJ they are roughly $17M over the cap. They can renounce his free agent rights and get that $24M in cap space back. That would leave them at $7.2M in cap space. So they could give Beasley his cap hold ($7.2M) + the $7.2 in cap space they also have. So the most they can give Beasley is $14.4M next year. Anything over that they cant sign him without dumping some salary. These numbers are always off a bit. So this is just ballpark stuff.1 point

Interesting. That Reed contract could be a nice toss for a team that just wants to cut him after the trade, provided Detroit is getting a Center back in the deal.1 point

One site says Moore is a team option next year. Another says he is a free agent. One site says if Reed is on the roster on 1/10/25 then his 2025 deal becomes guaranteed. If true they could waive him before next month and use his space. The problem there is, you still need a third big.1 point

The Rams are better than the record shows IMO. If Puka hadn't been injured, they probably would have run away with that division already.1 point

Our radio station broadcasted outside in the cold last Tuesday - Saturday in front of Kroger in Ann Arbor to raise money for Food Gatherers in Washtenaw. The effort raised the equivalent of 1.076 million meals (and counting). Passed our goal of 1 million. And it was really really cold this year, and it was worth the effort.1 point

the huge contracts will continue as long as the money in the big markets is available, the money is available as long as the media rights fees can keep increasing - i.e. the ecosystem doesn't collapse because viewers reach the point where they won't pay. As long as the big markets can afford to outbid places like Det, they will. A contract like Soto's - or the one Skubal will get if he stays healthy - is suicide for a team like the Tigers. Ilitch can talk a good game about being willing, but the $ are not there in this market when push comes to shove and the league isn't going to allow teams to operate at a loss. Doesn't matter if the owner has the money - the team still has to be solvent.1 point

I don't get the GB love fest compared to Minnesota. I think if you're gonna put GB on the SB tier then the Vikings should be there as well.1 point

Daniel Penny found not guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the death of Jordan Neely. This verdict is exactly right, and anyone who has ridden public transportation in NYC or elsewhere can totally understand what it feels like when someone who is exhibiting threatening behavior is on your subway car… and there’s nowhere to go. The prosecution charging him with criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter was such a huge overreach.1 point

If you doubt Cade could make all NBA. Hali made third team last year at 20 ppg 10.9 apg and 3.9 rpg while shooting 36% from three. Cade is averaging 23.9 ppg 9.4 apg and 7.3 apg while shooting 39% from three. ****, maybe he will make it.1 point

Hurts doesn't look good this year. The Eagles have been winning despite him. You have to be a bad QB to win nine in a row in Philadelphia and have even the national media being like "wow your running back must be an MVP" I'm not all that worried about not having Hutch, though it's obviously preferable to have him. They haven't lost a game without him. I just want to at least have what our defense looked like the moment he went out. Paschal, Levi, Alim, Reader, etc.1 point

Tiant just because he was such a presence/personality in the game. I don't mind giving guys credit when they end up being a big part of what makes the game what it is. Sure, it's not quantitative, but you know it when you see it....😉1 point

LOL - so they are going to have 5, maybe 6 yrs of a rougly replacement level player that costs them $50M/yr. Kewl.1 point

I don't think he measures up to most Hall of Famers. I would have liked to have seen Tommy John and Luis Tiant make it.1 point

If the Lions win the next three, they’d be just the 8th team ever to be 15-1 or better after 16 games. If they win the next four, they’d be just the 2nd team ever (and first NFC team ever) to win 16 regular season games. The NFL played a 14-game schedule from 1961-1977, a 16-game schedule from 1978-2020, and 2024 is the 4th season with 17 games.1 point

Last time the Lions played the Bills, they had the ball late and faced a 4th and 1 and chose to kick instead of going for it and then kicking. The Bills got the ball, went down the field, and kicked a FG and won.1 point

It's always struck me that if you are going to kill someone in retribution, you want them to know it, and this guy was shot in the back, but the other take on that would be that in the end the killer decided he would lose his nerve if he faced him.1 point

I just finished watching the doc. It was great. I turned to my wife and asked if she remembered the "Music of Your Life" format we used to laugh at. It was usually played on a fringe AM radio station in the 70s and early 80. I realized that Yacht Rock is the Music of My Life....1 point

I wouldn’t be against it, per se. But what is the OF/DH alignment? What becomes of 3B? Vierling? Or why not acquire both Kim and Suzuki and maybe Carpenter is moved for prospects?0 points
