If you are ready to move on from that then don't claim to love your country because it was an attack on the country.5 points

Never heard of Hegseth before he was nominated and still know nothing about him. But he looks like a guy trying to sell me the undercoating package on the used car I'm buying.3 points

To clarify, I don't care how much they spend per se.... I just am tired of dead contracts. I don't want them in a position where money prevents them from doing something they would have liked to do in 2029 because they are stuck paying $30M for a guy not contributing. If they paid $50M for a guy doing well and making the team better... I don't care.3 points

My gut tells me it’ll be closer than I’d like. Washington is hot and playing with house money. The Lions have the benefit in that they’re not really cold, at least not in the same way the Chiefs are (who haven’t played a meaningful game in nearly a month). But the Commanders are the prototypical young and scrappy underdog team that has far exceeded expectations, now with nothing to lose. They think they can beat anybody. Thats a dangerous team to play when it’s a one-and-done. Position by position it’s hard to name one where Washington is better, but this isn’t a best-of-five series. You can’t afford to go down 21-0, or cough up multiple turnovers. Ultimately, talent beats spirit more often than not (and it’s not like Detroit doesn’t have plenty of spirit of their own). I think that’s the case here too, but it’s not as easy a matchup as an apples to apples roster comparison might suggest.3 points

Unserious is exactly the word. It's almost funny in a way. I think about the kind of nose to the grindstone republican Paul Ryan was - and him being a big fan of Ayn Rand and her idea that the competent people keep the world running and it's the 'socialists' freeloaders that drag it down. But Rand had it wrong, at least in regard to contemporary America. It is the quiet competent people that keep the world running, but it's not socialists who are the freeloaders, it's the grifters, backslappers, influencers, the charter members of the 'good old boy' networks, the moneyed enfant terribles born on 3rd base, and all the other *unserious* people. And they are certainly having their hour. Someone needs to write an update to "Atlas Shrugged' with the real story.2 points

Trump is a 32 time convicted felon, a rapist, a liar. He sold the country to Musk for 227 million pieces of silver, putting him up there with Judas iscariot and Benedict Arnold. I put his supporters in the same boat2 points

I also don't care at all how much they pay them per year. If they can get someone for a low number of years and high annual value, that is great. I want Bregman and Flaherty because I think they will be good and help the Tigers win games, not because I care how much money Ilitch spends. If they can get them for shorter term and less risk, then that's better.2 points

is there a more annoying local media personality than Ryan Ermani? He's on Fox 2 and does a podcast or something and man... is his football knowledge so generic and shallow. I'm a total bandwagoner and I feel like I know more than he does. Says the most basic things as if he unearthed something meaningful. Just now on the news he says "Let me explain the divisional round for you. (dramatic pause). If the Lions win on Saturday, then win again the next week at home.. (dramatic pause)... the Lions are going to the Super Bowl" He does this kind of thing constantly.2 points

Twofold. one Verlander probably would want control over that and secondly the potential fan backlash if we signed Verlander only to trade him four months later. IMO.1 point

these are just fans doing a podcast... not much different than what we all do here day in and day out. They have a microphone and camera and headsets. When you have to fill up an hour, especially in January.... what the hell else are you going to talk about? I couldn't fill 10 minutes. I'm with chas... I don't care if they sign anybody. I'm also ok if they sign Bregman but only if the story is "How did they get him for that little?"1 point

We actually won a playoff series last year not only without making any acquisitions, but by selling off a reliable pitcher in the middle of a great year. Was that super lucky and we could never do it that way again? Maybe. But I’m encouraged that we have numerous players still on the upswing and should improve this year, some perhaps dramatically, instead of over-the-hill veterans having one last hurrah. I’m OK if Harris doesn’t sign Bregman or Santander or Alonso. I don’t think he needs to spend this offseason as though the money is burning a hole in his pocket. Although I could be talked into a couple years of Nick Pivetta.1 point

I was so happy to move back to the 'let our family and friends get away with small ****' with Biden. Ironically the folks that were so tired of that consistent crap from leaders of all parties for centuries that they elected Trump and even after he "Trumped" that grift and expanded it to exponential levels, they elected him again.1 point

I know, right? I’m no real football fan by any means, but I would really like to see the Lions run the bases more aggressively in this match.1 point

This is a pretty huge game for them. Big test. If they keep this close, that would be a good sign, if they win this, who knows where this is headed? They are 11-4 in their last 15, right? I don't care who ya played, 11-4 is great and considering the depths they were coming from..........J.B. is doing an amazing job.1 point
