If losing money means nothing, and in the end people won't miss it, then billionaires should be happy to give up some of theirs to help maintain the infrastructure and the people of the country that's supposed to mean so much more.2 points

this - and every economist worth their salt makes this point: NO ONE is going to make investment decisions based on the policies of guy as mercurial as Trump, especially when he's driving the economy into a ditch - making a political reversal likely even if he didn't change his mind. If you want to persuade investors you are serious about US manufacturing, you need to start putting law and tax policy on the books that makes a commitment to its well being. But of course that requires serious people who have some idea how to formulate serious policy and how to get it into law. Good luck with that in this Admin.2 points

Opening Day forty years ago, when the champion Tigers got their rings.2 points
-
Here's a look at former Tigers players who have made the Opening Day rosters for the other 29 teams in the league. Arizona leads the way with 4 former Tigers. P Max Scherzer (2010-2014) continues his HOF career with the Blue Jays. INF Nick Maton (2023) has won a bench spot with the White Sox. UT Mark Canha (2024) appears to have made the cut with the Royals. P John Schreiber (2019-2020) will pitch out of the Royals bullpen. P Michael Lorenzen (2023) is a member of the Royals starting rotation. INF Willi Castro (2019-2022) follows up his first All-Star season with the Twins. INF Gio Urshela (2024) breaks camp with the Athletics. 3B Isaac Paredes (2020-2021) will be the Astros starting third baseman. OF Derek Hill (2020-2022) takes advantage of injuries to claim a spot in the Marlins outfield. P Reed Garrett (2019) begins his third season in the Mets bullpen. OF Nick Castellanos (2013-2019) is a mainstay of the Phillies outfield. UT Kody Clemens (2022) makes his first opening day roster with the Phillies. INF Jeimer Candelario (2017-2022) looks to rebound from injuries with the Reds. C Eric Haase (2020-2023) will be the Brewers backup backstop. P Tyler Alexander (2019-2023) has made the Brewers bullpen. P Elvin Rodriguez (2022) reappears in the majors with the Brewers. Win! 4-4 record. No apologies for getting to beat up on the hapless White Sox, after having to start the season at the powerful Dodgers.1 point

I think spring training bought him some time in an otherwise likely dump him before 2025 season is over scenario. This outing where they had to burn Vest isn’t going to sit well. This outing against a hapless Chicago lineup isn’t going to sit well. I liked his acquisition, I thought it made sense. But he may be done as a major leaguer. I appreciate him changing his off-season regimen to account for his poor 2024. I was hopeful that would help him this season. And his spring seemed to encourage as well. Maybe it was one rough outing, but he’s at a point where he can’t have many of these.1 point

They are so out of touch with today’s MLB. The subject should’ve read: Phils deal Dodgers first loss. FanDuel now has the Dodgers +300000 to go 161-11 point

I don’t want any part of the Pacers. The knack they have for miraculously winning games at the end sets up the potential for a gut wrenching series.1 point

I do want the Pacers - because the two teams hate each other and that'll be fun. We haven't had anything close to the Wings-Avs series' for over a decade now. Pistons-Pacers could be like that. Stupid schedule maker didn't have these two teams play the entire second half - and they're in the same division. Just odd.1 point

Playoffs Clinched ! What an accomplishment. And doing it without Ivey most of the year and without Cade the last couple of weeks. Stellar job, J.B. - Coach Of The Year right there. Need to keep Malik around a couple more years. Imagine how much better they could have been if Fontecchio played like last year.1 point

Listening to Sam Stein and Tim Miller yesterday. Stein was talking about how this kind of market crash and a recession/depression would break the fever dream. Tim Miller wasn't having it citing the case of a global pandemic made fundamentally worse by the RW media and the MAGAs and that had not sufficiently broken through evidenced by Jan 6 and response. I personally think Biden won because of the obviousness of the failed COVID response with regular people but the recovery went too well and people returned to their tribes and comfortable narratives aided and abetted by the oligarchs creating those narratives that suited them best. I think the roaring twenties were still the roaring twenties after October 1929 but things really got faccacta after Smoot Hawley. I think the roaring 2020s will still be the roaring 2020s until the real effects of the tax cuts to aid the billionaire class create a sucking chest wound to the social safety net occurs and that is felt. Might take 6-12 months. I don't think the environment where people are seeing life savings wiped out by golfing idiot and a drug addicts wielding chain saws is cutting all medical and scientific research funding is going help in marginal elections but the real change in perceptions has yet to occur.1 point

To be fair to Shawn Fain, given that none of us new what these tariffs were until Trump ambled out there and held up that board, do we even know how the UAW felt about these tariffs? The policy is disastrous enough, and certainly people didn't consider the word case scenarios enough... but still, nobody knew what the **** he was going to do going into it either.1 point

I agree. More than Hutch though. They lost several guys, it's amazing they went 15-2. I think they'll get there within the next 2 seasons.1 point

So is the skyrocketing inflation and stock market crash still on Biden's bloody hands or can we put some pressure of the Trump admin yet?1 point

Time to call up Ben Malgeri. He's hitting .750 in the minors. That's incredible. Do you realize that if he continues to hit like this all season he's going to hit..........what..........750 ? Why do we have to suffer Kreidler? It's Malgeri Time !1 point

I’m sure they’re sold. It’s just that everyone you don’t see in them is inside the nice warm club nibbling on swell food and drinking top shelf drinks. Just as with so many other organizations, the Tigers ae targeting super high net worth individuals and companies at the cost of the terrible optics of all those empty seats on showing up on TV.1 point

4 suckers and losers are arriving at Dover today. markets are crashing. but Trump is getting out his shine box for his Saudi owners in Florida and MAGA still pissed at Biden because of some trans DIII volleyball player when an administration is not punished - but celebrated - for its lies, incompetence, ignorance and cruelty - how do we even move forward as a country?1 point

154 games won’t net much in terms of better weather. And they are not going to force teams to play a lot of home games in April because they are in a dome or warmer climate1 point

1 out I think. Sweeney had struck out. Then Harvey bounced out to third and they got the force at home, then McKinstry Kd. The Dingler single really wasn’t hit deep enough to send Keith home—he’d have gotten thrown out if the throw was remotely decent. Then again, the Ms airmailed like 4 throws to home from the outfield this series….1 point

I got a call from my Dad, his entire church coffee group...people aged 75-95 will be protesting on April 5 in Oceana County wherever the big event is. I think the county seat in Hart. I'll be coaching a softball game that day unfortunately.1 point

I like City Connect. They are Fun. And serve as a reminder that it is Friday. And that nothing matters but the weekend. Plus fireworks. And that I get a two-day reprieve from my oppressive job and terrible workmates. And my internal demons and horrible thoughts temporarily subside. Yes, I like City Connect.1 point
