In all the years I've talked to front office folks about players/prospects, I've never seen them have the concerns over log jams, roster crunches, players being blocked, promotions, etc. These are concerns of fans and I've yet to see front office type stress over any of it....they are manufactured "problems" for the most part. Priority prospects get handled first....this goes with season-opening roster construction and in-season player movement. If a priority prospect needs a specific assignment, they get it....end of story. When the team decides to promote -- for the purposes of this, let's say McGonigle -- then they promote him, and the underlying decisions are quite black and white or obvious.3 points

My son and I were two of them. Castro made that really nice catch at the RF fence right in front of us.3 points

There will have to be a lot of cuts after the draft due to the players assigned to rosters counting against the Domestic Reserve List. I mean Jim Jarvis is getting run at shortstop in Erie. A simple swap there with McGonigle seems a lot better than cutting potential MLB depth.2 points

McGonigle and Clark reached base 8 times. Both with OBP's above 400 and more BB than Ks.2 points

It's been a long time since I was there on a Sunday. I was mad because a wedding meant i couldn't go on Friday. I considered just selling the tickets and making some money but when I found out it was an ESPN Sunday Night game, I exchanged them. Then on Monday while at the game, with Skubal pitching, I realized he'd probably be pitching Sunday nigtht which was even better. outside of winning a division title at home, I don't know this can be topped. I was so focused on his strikeouts and catching Anibal's K record, I didn't notice he hadn't given up a hit until he did.2 points

With all four minor league teams also winning, we achieved Helter Skelter for the 11th time this season.2 points

Maybe just want to wait until these guys play a game above A-ball before we put them in the MLB all time great category.2 points

“Unprecedentedly bad” is a bit over the top. But I agree that Lalonde was an uninspired hire and Stevie let him and Blashill stay past their expiration dates.1 point

yzerman has had one bad offseason, imo. he's situating the team to be competitive in seider/raymond's prime. he's done nothing to mess up that timeline....yet.1 point

FWIW, Suter/Parise had less to do with the Wings and more to do with being sold the dream to come back home and make NHL hockey matter in Minnesota1 point

I wasn't sad about the Beasley news when I heard we were pivoting to NAW. But now Trajan is learning what we all know: The free agents you want simply aren't coming to Detroit. Sounds like NAW is favored to go to Atlanta and so we've had to pivot to the table scraps (LaVert and Robinson). At very best those would be lateral moves from Shroeder, THJ, and Beasley in an offseason where you needed to be improving around your core, not taking steps sideways. Playing the Free Agency game in Detroit never works. Meanwhile we're getting leapfrogged by multiple teams who finished just a couple games behind us last year such as the Magic and the Hawks. Let's not forget that both of those teams had significant injuries to some of their top players last year and now they've taken steps to improve on top of returning their existing talent.1 point

What strikes me when I watch them on the field and on the bases is the fearlessness. Like Tork's DP. After the ball hit the ground most guys are just taking it to 1st, but he still choose the tougher play with zero hesitation - and it was only the zero hesitation the allowed the execution to be successful. You have a bunch of guys `that play that way - Tork, McKinstry, Greene, Baez, Meadows, and it's infected any that maybe on a different team, wouldn't. And Hinch apparently has them drilled to where it works because they mostly DO execute. And of course Harris - and to his credit Avila, both upped the stress on putting guys on the field who could play the game outside the batter's box over previous FOs.1 point

Honestly, I love this. What a fun dig into local history to come up with a temp rebranding.1 point

Three 100mph+ EVs tonight plus the very pretty DP. How many 1Bs just pick up that ball, trot to 1B and think they made the play?1 point

Not mine, although everybody that knows me well already knows I’m a Tigers fan, but not many of them are people who watch ESPN. Most people I know when I talk about the Tigers glaze over.1 point

The problem with doing that is it eats up most of the money they have for free agents. Better to let him sit and sign other people. He likes it here. If he is cleared of it in a month or two, he can always do a one-year deal for the vet minimum and enter free agency again next year.1 point
-
Yeah, the problem is, all the quality players would be signed elsewhere. Offer him a one year deal until the case is resolved?1 point

For the month of June, the Tigers won 5 series (all by a 2-1 margin), lost 2 series (all by a 2-1 margin) and split 1 series (4-gamer vs Chicago White Sox). Also on the 1st day of June beat KC in the tiebreaker of a 3-game series, which I didn't count. 15-11 record (0.577, 93 win pace) for the month. At 53-32, through 85 games the 2025 Tigers are 4 games behind the '06 Tigers, 4 games behind the '84 Tigers and 3 games behind the '68 Tigers.1 point

Unless the feds announce nothing happened in the next day or two, they have to move on from Beasley. The feds are not going to release any info about an investigation. So the only side of the story you will get is his and who knows what the truth is. You can't risk committing money to someone who might face a lifetime ban in the coming months. You also cant wait until the investigation is over because you will miss out on other people if you have to replace him. He really screwed up. Even if he is innocent, by the time it comes out everyone will have spent their money and he has to sign somewhere for the vet minimum.1 point

I’ll be honest. I’m still not sure I consider them to be the best team in the American League, let alone baseball. Not from a roster standpoint, anyway. I’m waiting to see an eventual regression to the norm. But maybe they are this good. They have the record. They’re well coached. The whole of the team can be greater than the sum of its parts. I don’t know. I guess we just enjoy the ride while we have it.1 point
-
I’ll take Clark every day, even without the McGonigle signing. Max is everything this team needs—legit high OBP guy with speed and will provide the perfect defense for Comerica. His arm will let him play RF, if they elect to keep Parker in CF. Will basically be 3 centerfielders, with Greene. He’ll be worth the wait.1 point
