In one of his books Bill James talked about Stan Musial. He had an unusual "down" year, by his standards. Must have been 1947 based on his stats? Anyway, James said he was trying to find something in the numbers to figure out why. He was age 26. His prime. He had been great in the years before and after. Won MVP the year before and after. It was his second year back after WWII service. When James met him he asked about that season and Stan said they had just had a kid and he wasn't a good sleeper and kept him up at night. He still had a good year just not a Stan Musial year.

Good to hear. These days I hardly pay any attention to the Grapefruit League, NFL training camps or NHL Septembers. Instead I piggy back on the effort of others to keep tabs on developments, ha. Right before they came back from commercial before the final half inning they showed the final out in ‘87 against Toronto. I actually got choked up. I was in high school. I started to think about how I was now (in 2006) married with 2 kids and a job and a house…. 19 years can be a small amount of years, like 2006 to now feels, or pretty much a lifetime, as 87 to 06 felt to me then.
