  1. He's not actually confused. He knows exactly what you're talking about. He's trying to wield the confusey face as a weapon in an lame effort to delegitimize the truth of what you're posting. But what he probably doesn't realize is that by posting only a confusey face, he's tacitly acknowledging that what you've posted is actually true. Otherwise, if he firmly believed it wasn't true, he could easily refute it with words demonstrating the untruth of it. But he can't, so ... instead.

  5. Saw a clip from ESPN where Ryan Clark said college players want to be drafted by the Lions because they develop and pay their players. It wasn’t that long ago when Nick Fairley was on stage after being drafted by the Lions and looked like that was the last place he wanted to be.

  6. "Windows" are different in the NFL than they are in other sports. It's not like we have a rotation of aces and a lineup of bats that will need to be locked up on decade-long contracts that will either (a) cripple the team in seven years with mediocre performance we can't afford to cut or (b) cripple the team with replacement level players when they are all traded. In the NFL, it's all about winning 10-11+ games and being hot enough in January to win 3-4 in a row. A lot of that is talent, absolutely. But a lot of it is also just health and cohesion and everything working in synch at the right time. I think it's something this year's team understands on a fundamental level, and it's why a guy like Decker is taking an extra game off against an opponent like the Chiefs. I bet you he plays on Thanksgiving against the Packers. For as fun a run as 2023 was, I think 2022 could have been special in its own right if the refs didn't bungle the ending of the Seahawks-Rams game. That team was hot and they weren't going to just roll over against the 49ers in the wildcard round. Likewise, the Rams were hot in 2023 when they came into Ford Field. If a couple 4th downs went their way and they squeezed by us, it wouldn't have surprised me to see them go the distance as a 6-seed. As a final example, the Commanders were probably the least talented team on the NFC side last season. But they caught the Bucs on a walk-off field goal and then the defensively depleted Lions flat footed. Just like that, a game away from the Super Bowl. Football is just different. We can ride this wave a long time if the front office does it right, which they are.

  7. We should probably remember if the Tigers were to trade Skubal, they could kiss Bichette or Bregman or Tucker or Cease or just about any other halfway decent free agent goodbye. There’s no way any good player is going to want to come to a team that’s just traded their two-time Cy-Young-winning bird in the hand for two in the bush, and they are not making any decision to come to Detroit before they know that bird is definitely staying here. And this doesn’t even take into account the effect such a trade by a team that’s on a two-time LDS run would have on the rest of the guys who are already here, as well as the guys who are due to come up. Who’s going to gladly bust their ass for a team that purposely trades their way out of playoff contention? Skubal ain’t going anywhere. We’re building around him for next season.

  8. A lot of experts and even just friends think this is their best year to win a superbowl. I personally think it all depends on the health of the team. I think that goes for all the top NFL teams. If we can prevent from any serious season ending injuries than I truly think we are the favorite this year. I think the Lions window is the next 3-4 years. For future years the biggest question will be who will be adding depth and eventually replace Decker. I think that will be a big focus in the draft next year. The other question will be can they resign all their 2023 draft picks. I actually think they can with some maneuvering. You can do that when you sign your own draft picks instead of overpaying in free agency and trade deadlines. That is why I don't think they are going to make a big splash at the trade deadline (unless a major injury happens on sun). They can use extra cap space next year which will help with resigning the 2023 guys. I expect them to trade for some depth. Their trade deadline will be getting injured players back.

  10. With respect to position players - I pray that the Tigers do not sign a long-term FA. This team came within a base hit of beating Seattle. Nearly every player seems to be on the upwards path of their career trajectory. Do not throw into the mix a long-term contract with a player on their downside path. It seems to me that most long-term signings eventually become regrettable. We are lucky that Javy was flexible and contributed in a number of ways this year. Even then, every long-term signing going back to Miggy has been regrettable, some ludicrously bad. With so much talent coming through the pipeline, I'd like to see every position made available to the home grown talent. Maybe make a few commitments ala Colt Keith to some of the sure thing standouts.

  11. Jake is a pretty ideal backup catcher. I suppose if they think his bat is totally toast then maybe he's too expensive but they could do a lot worse.

  12. Nobody I know wants to go to any event run there because he is involved. It was perhaps a little run down before but I saw the stage version of Life of Pii there prior to him taking over last year and it was very well-attended.

  16. Maybe Kasper's first was a high stick but I think it was the right call to go with what was on the ice, I didn't think the replays were conclusive either way because of him slapping down his stick to make contact. To me if it could go either way you go with the call on the ice. I highly doubt the NHL has a conspiracy to make the Wings win a regular season game against a Western team in October.

  20. I get what you’re talking about to a point but the CBS of today is not the CBS of 50 years ago or even 25. And the Ellisons of today are not the Paleys of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.. Go back and watch Ed Murrow’s RTNDA Speech or look at Clooney’s Good Night and Good News. Owners then were still concerned about advertising dollars and viewship but there was still the wall between news and editorial content. That wall fell when cable and Fox News came into being. And business owners stopped caring about the public good and more about profit and stock prices

  21. Per Harris: “I hope that I've demonstrated here that we're focused on winning baseball games and trying to win a World Series, not winters or deadlines,” Harris said earlier this month. “Sometimes that means that we're going to go into a winter and we're going to chase the flashiest name, and we're going to offer a lot of money. And sometimes that means we're going to go into a winter and focus on more targeted needs. I don't know exactly what this winter is going to be.” I don’t think I actually believe he’s uncertain about what he wants to do except for the goal of winning the World Series. But of course he’s not going to be open about it.

  22. Thanks. We are staying with friends. Their son plays soccer for Carnegie Mellon so they’ve been coming here for 3 years. They just rent a place for 3 months and come out every weekend. It’s such a cool city. I had no idea. It also nice to just be along for the ride. A jazz club last night featuring a drummer who had a display at the museum yesterday. l

  25. Tell me more about your logic here. If it's the batter who decides to challenge and he can't even see the catcher, how does his framing affect what pitches get challenged?

  26. I don’t think roster crunch will be an issue, unless there is another MLB caliber catcher on the 40 man that I am forgetting. Point being, there is a fixed roster spot for a backup catcher and it will rogers or someone else not in the org. With Nido already secured via minor league deal, we have the depth needed. Jake will be back. Harris doesn’t worry about a few million over a single year, especially when there isn’t a reasonable replacement available at a lower cost.

  31. A little on the AI computer thing... Had an issue with text messages on my phone. I could send and get back if it was to one person. Once there were more than one, they could get mine, but I did not get a response. Oh, goody, here we go. I used the Microsoft Co-Pilot that comes with Windows 11. I spent an hour trying to fix this with no luck. I then logged into my phone carrier account and tried get help there. That might have been worse than Co-pilot. Truly awful. Probably another AI bot, just worse... I ended up fixing it myself by accident. The lack of support all started out with those damn phone tree systems. But I also noticed this. When you open Co-Pilot this is the screen. WAY at the bottom, in letters so small you need to be a piss ant to read...(I had to crop the picture because it was so close to the bottom). Too funny But a link to opt out. That's funny too.

  32. It is no secret on Wall Street cutting jobs make stock prices go up. I was a victim quite a few times over the years myself. As long as there is a bottom line, the next 8K, and bean counters - cutting costs will always be the plan - and people are the easiest way to do so. And in a way it should be, but usually the wrong ones. The waste in large multi-nationals is off the charts. A lot of fat could be cut, or used in a more productive way (what a concept). It don't work that way. It is a giant cluster ****, like Office Space the movie only worse. So let's **** it up even more with AI and get rid of the people who actually helped make the trains on time. That's all these greedy assholes running these companies wanted anyway, a bunch of ass kissing robots. Be careful what you wish for dickheads.

  33. MAGA is already blaming democrats for the huge price increase in their Healthcare. They say the shutdown doesn't allow them to negotiate. Facts? The democrats refused to pass the temporary bill to run the government because of the upcoming health care cost increase. There isnt any misinformation that MAGA wont try. Make 100 lies and a few may get thru.

  36. Yes, they could, and be assured that they will, eventually. But first, they will use this as an opportunity to delegitimatize the Democratic Party and hurt as many people as they possibly can with this tool until it has outlived its usefulness. Once it has, they can set it aside, do what you suggest, and then ratchet up the war on 60% of all Americans with something even more horrific than this.

  40. All of this talk about what was offered in the past isn’t remotely relevant. Wake me when someone reports what the tigers are currently offering, and then we can start talking about how far apart they actually are and how much of a gap there is to bridge. I hate this part of the offseason. Go jays. Just get it over with.
