  1. What a way to celebrate our nations 250th birthday. Doing that which we fought against.

  2. Any ends justify means mentality ignores the basic premise that every action has a reaction. It doesn’t matter if Maduro is an evil drug dealing dictator. You can’t just go on your own and invade his country to physically remove him. This changes the rules for the entire world and creates a very scary new landscape. This will permeate well beyond Caracas. China, Russia, and whoever else sees themselves fit enough can now go on their own and take what they want by force. God help us all for what this lunatic has planned next.

  3. I already said that I think Harris is a solid GM and that I have no interest in seeing him replaced. He's not perfect though and I'd like to see him be a little more aggressive/creative. I think several other postets share that view.

  4. People realize Candelario bottomed out the last two years, right? The Reds cut him after 1.5 years of very negative WAR production. Granted, the year of control he was non-tendered was pretty productive for the Nats and Cubs. I just want to make sure it is known just how bad he got on his contract with the Reds. Also, not signing Framber isn't some cheapness, do the minimum deal. You've built a team with some kind of special sauce for makeup and team-before-self attitude that should increase the likelihood (By the way, for all we know, this could have been why Candelario was non-tendered). You don't blow that up by overspending on a pitcher who... checks notes.. intentionally crossed up and injured his catcher this year without some extensive assurances that was anomylous.

  5. If being a criminal is cause for another country to take out a leader…. Can someone come here and take our guy? You can have his wife too if that helps. She might pose for some nudes for your troops.

  6. A couple of points: 1) It's hard to take this administration's actions today as some sort of gesture toward freedom and democracy when they have continually antagonized a sovereign country defending itself from an unlawful attack (ie. Ukraine) from a corrupt dictator 2) It's hard to take this administration's actions today as some sort of gesture toward freedom and democracy when they have continually taken aim at our own freedom and our own democracy at home 3) Nicolas Maduro is a bad bad leader. But there are many bad bad leaders out there. Why is it in our interests to take *this* one out and not all the others? This administration has not once made the case to the American people as to why this action was necessary... but we're all supposed to be in awe or some **** over it

  13. How Skubal is handled will tell us nothing. He's on the wrong timeframe. If we pay him according to Boras, we'll be paying for his 30+ years (age), for too long (10 years), and for future injured years. So... No thanks. Wrong timeframe. Most of Avila's players are on the wrong timeframe. Dingler and Keith most likely would join in the Harris-McGonigle-Clark timeframe, possibly Jobe if he can stay healthy and reach his potential... But I think a lot of Avila players are going to be shunted off the team when Harris finds better options more akin to his philosophy.

  16. Ummm, yeah... Context matters here. And IIRC, the context was SPECIFICALLY: "How are you going to handle the innings needed to get through the season after trading away these pitchers?" That has NOTHING to do with the playoffs. That is simply Harris calling up minor league kids (for the most part... and they were Avila AAA guys... for the most part: Brieske, Wentz, Olson, Montero, Faedo, Foley, Hurter, Hanifee... did I miss anyone?) to fill innings or grabbing a waiver wire guy to fill some innings. Sorry, but that is NOT "Harris leading the Tigers into the playoffs the past two years" (I think chas has put it exactly like that at least a few times...); which, IMO, is completely ridiculous. Harris was simply trying to fill innings. By supplying minor league call ups that Hinch/Fetter needed. That Hinch & Fetter used those guys to the effect that those players got us into the playoffs is a credit to Hinch/Fetter, NOT Harris. IMO. Harris's "plan", with Hinch/Fetter, was pitching chaos because we were basically out of starters (after Skubal), and they all agreed that was the only way to get through the innings... But Hinch & Fetter had to successfully manage those players and put them into positions to succeed. Harris doesn't get credit for that... he only gets credit for supplying the pitchers needed (all those Avila guys they called up from AAA...) for Hinch and Fetter to implement chaos. It's not zero (for Harris). but it certainly isn't "LEADING them into the playoffs." Again, that's ridiculous, IMO. 2024 (just on a WAG) was 98% Hinch/Fetter, 2% Harris. IMO.

  17. Taking all the politics out of this, it's pretty damn amazing that we just went into a country and snatched up the sitting President from his safe space on a military base without losing a single person or aircraft.

  19. It was pretty much immediately after the trade deadline. This isn’t an “after the fact” anecdote where they bragged. It was brought up at that time. No they didn’t say “we have a plan to make the playoffs”. I didn’t infer that. I brought it up because it was said that all the credit for that run goes to Hinch and the coaches, and not Harris, and I strenuously dispute that. I don’t think anything in this org happens in a silo. It’s an integrated process and strategy between the front office and the manager and coaches, and the development staff.

  20. Is Miggy Trump's great friend? It absolutely would not surprise me in the least. Venezuela is a member in good standing of the United nations, a sovereign nation that is supposed to be in charge of its own affairs. They are now a United States possession. This is nothing but flat out imperialism. The Soviet Union was right about us the whole time. It's one thing if a coalition of nations were to work together to remove a citizen-murdering despot from power. That is eminently defensible. It's another matter when the biggest baddest mother****ing country on the planet overthrows a government just to drill, steal, and sell off the oil, which is precisely what Trump said today we are doing. Notice how he didn't say boo about fighting drug trafficking during the press conf today? If Trump wants to give the rest of the world a real hot foot, he can put that ex-Honduran president he absolved of drug trafficking in charge of Venezuela now. Think he won't? Keep on eye on Kalshi, it might just show up there as a prop bet. I'm sorry, I want to be happy as the next guy that Maduro is out, but I would have wanted that to happen the right way, through the people of Venezuela, and not through the military adventurism of the United States. This was more than merely the brazen and craven act of a convicted felon dictator. It's also a huge middle finger to the rest of the world, except for Russia and China, for reasons romad1 has already articulated.

  26. Setting aside the fact that Trump already tried stealing an election five years ago and guys like Lance Gooden remained silent then (so he can kindly f' off)... What do any of us get as a benefit for this action having been taken? It's clearly not about drugs (after all, this administration just pardoned a former Central American leader who was implicated in drug trafficking), it's probably not about oil given the economics of handling Venezuelan crude, it does nothing to bring stability to the region... If anything it will destabilize over the long run. As far as Maduro is concerned, he obviously terrible, but so is Vladimir Putin... And we all see how our President sucks up to him. So it clearly ain't about freedom or liberty or anything like that. So who benefits? Not any of us, but it provides entertainment for MAGA I guess lol

  33. Jung has spent more time in the minors as a 2B than a 3B. They started giving him more time at 3rd after they had to move Colt to 2nd to protect his injured arm. Last season at Toledo they played him about 50/50 2B/3B.

  40. Not far. Bregman had an abysmal finish to last season. Would have fit in nicely with the rest of our lineup, but would not have helped.

  41. They have $20 million right now for 2025. For 2026, per Spotrac, they have $13 million which is 20th. They were $7 million over but rolling over $20 million puts them under the cap. They were still over the cap even with rolling over cash but the Hutchinson extension gave them room next year. If they signed Zeitler for the contract he got with Tennessee, that would have been $9 million less this year, which means $9 million less to roll over, which would mean only $4 million in space next year vs $13 million and Zeitler no longer on the team. The Lions signed arguably the top cornerback available last year so it’s not like they weren’t active.

  43. Harris really hasn't done much to improve the current roster. Outside of the bullpen and Torres, all the players were guys that were already here when he took over. Things just kind of worked out for him so far. He gave minimal effort to try to improve the roster at the trade deadline. Having Sweeney and Jung as starting SS and 3rd baseman going into last season was just a terrible decision. His FA signings have been bad, his trades have been even worse. We'll see how his draft picks pan out. Having highly rated prospects isn't the same as having accomplished mlb players.

  44. I am not sure how much I care what credit Harris deserves or does not deserve, as long as the Tigers keep fielding playoff contending teams and make the playoffs on a regular basis.

  45. well sure, but we cant give up Song just to marginally improve at 3b, he's the 16th highest rated prospect in our system!

  46. I do want the Tigers to extend Skubal, but I am not a fan of the Free Press article portraying the Tigers as currently mediocre and the future hopeless without Skubal (42-20 when Skubal starts and 131-131 when Skubal does not start over the last two seasons). Since 2022 nearly every position on the Tigers roster has improved (Javy was the highest WAR player in 2022). The Tigers needed Skubal and improvement at other positions to make the playoffs. If Skubal does go elsewhere, the Tigers will need development and contributions from multiple players(Turn 5 losses into 5 wins in a season) to remain a playoff contender. Jobe, Melton, maybe a healthy Olson, McGonigle, Clark, ... are on the horizon.
