  1. religion? do you think they asked if they were practicing or not in the roundups in Germany or Armenia or Rwanda? The fascists don't care about what your religion is or whether you practice it, and the American Christian right wingers don't care what you are either if you are anything outside their own cult (theirs being one of the most excluding theologies out there). Religion is never more than a convenient construct to define what groups will be the targets for redirecting the anger of the masses in a failing society. It's all about picking a target that is easy to identify, the 'why' of that identification is purely incidental. All that matters is that there is an elite who needs to deflect from their own corruption and greed, an intellectually lazy or economically exhausted mass who'd rather not be reminded about their own failures, and a set of identifiable targets the elites can persuade the masses are the cause of their problems. Religion never matters in and of itself. It's nothing more than the sieve.

  4. The problem is ownership and culture, just like it was in Detroit. Unless they have a Sheila Hamp waiting in the wings, they'll live in futility for at least as long as Woody and Chris Johnson are in charge. Hopefully Glenn will get another shot like Saleh did.

  6. This quote is from LeBron and came from a video, so I can't link it. League avg pace in 2026: 99.6 League avg pace in 1990: 98.3 That means today, players have to play an extra 2.5 possessions per game. That ain't ****.

  10. Schwartz was the perfect hire for where the Lions were when they hired him. He had the F-You attitude they needed and he did a great job of getting them to the playoffs in his 3rd year, but that was really his limit. Yep, he kinda got screwed here. I mean, Todd Monken? Really? Maybe this is a good thing Jimmy, do you really want to be the next victims The Browns..........always Browning. Always. Mike McCarthy, Jesse Minter - if you don't have a DC and you want someone motivated to destroy a division opponent - well, there's a guy available, sort of.

  12. If they setup a cap/floor, I think there's actually a pretty good way to do this. It's actually and idea I had many years ago with the NFL, and it's pretty simple: For every consecutive year that a player is with a team, 5% of their AAV is not charges against the team's Salary Cap. For a very simplistic example: The Tigers sign a player to a 5 year, 10,000,000 contract. It doesn't matter how much is paid each year, the average is $2M per year, so that players contract would normally charge $2M against the cap. Therefore: In 2026 the cap hit for this player is $2M In 2027 the cap hit is $1.9M ($2M - 5% for one year) In 2028 the cap hit is $1.8M ($2M - 10% for two years) In 2029 the cap hit is $1.7M In 2030 the cap hit is $1.6M Now in 2031 that player is a free agent and the Yankees come in and offer him a 1 year deal for $3M. That would cost the Yanks $3M against their cap for that year. But the Tigers could look at that and counter with $3.5M know that this would only hit $2.625M towards their cap. The percentage off could be adjust to see what makes the most sense of course. And also, of course, this only works in a cap/floor situation where teams have at least similar resources to spend enough towards the caps.

  16. Murray's poor FT shooting saved them from a classic JB game mismanaging performance. Why did he use all of his timeouts to make offense for defense switches? Did you really need an 0-8 Duncan back in the game? That first foul on Green was questionable at best and you left yourself no timeouts to challenge it. Why wasn't Ausar brought back in the game in the last 4 minutes? Let him use up that last foul. He was a team high (by far) +14 in this game and shut down Murray all night. I'm so tired of hearing that it's "for the offense". When your half-court offense is as bad as ours you make up for it with extra possessions and easy buckets. Ausar gave them 8 extra possessions (5 steals, 2 offensive boards, and 1 block) of the type that usually result in high percentage transition opportunities and shots at the rim. Building on the same question, why was Duncan playing at all in the final 4 minutes of this game? He was 0-8 from three and was getting targeted on every defensive possession by Murray. Get Ausar, Ron, and/or Stew in there to create some easy buckets. JB claims defense is the identity of the team and once again you see him giving up on our elite defense to try to make our offense slightly less mediocre. Look, I love Daniss on most nights, but he clearly didn't have it tonight and yet JB rode him for way too many minutes in the 4th even while Cade was in the game. His role is backup PG, not shooting guard. JBs ability to mismanage rotations killed us against the Knicks in the playoffs and will again in the playoffs this year if this team doesn't make a consolidation move to add more 2-way players and take some decisions out of JB hands. Just wait until LaVert comes back from the injury he's milking so he can't get traded.

  17. With the Browns passing on Schwartz, Campbell should be discreetly calling him. There are only a handful of DC candidates I would consider an improvement on continuity with Sheppard, but that's one of them. Cleveland wants him to stay as DC (after interviewing him twice and saying no thanks). I think he probably tells them in no uncertain terms to piss off.

  21. Why does he get no credit for Brady? Brady wasn’t some generational prospect who fell in his lap. Bledsoe wasn’t healthy for the Super Bowl and he still started Brady. He then traded Bledsoe and went with Brady. No one at the time would have faulted him for sticking with Bledsoe.

  22. I started a "conversation" on ChatGPT last night about the workings of a combination salary cap and floor. Basically came up with the possibility of a soft salary cap with a hard floor. The floor would be around 80-90% of median league payroll. Teams would have to fall within that range with active MLB salaries no avoid any penalties, loss of a percentage of revenue sharing, compensation picks, other draft picks etc. I never got into enforcement last night. On the other end a soft cap. Anything above say 130% of the cap gets penalized. Loss of draft picks, International bonuses and pools. The penalties would be on a sliding scale. (The Dodgers would probably get hit hard). Marginal tax rates 40%-75%-100%. Revenues marked only for pensions, minor league pay and revenue sharing enforcement. Also no artificial contract voiding. I didn't get much deeper into the woods, but there needs to be discussions about Ichiro type of contracts where big money is deferred over a very long time.

  23. My objection to soccer is purely philosophical. It's the fact that we have our arms available instead of tied to our locomotion with hands with opposable thumbs at their ends that makes us what we are. Any activity that denies the use of the arms strikes me as being somewhat sub-human.....😉

This stupid little scene with two characters who hadn't even appeared on screen yet 3/4 of the way through the movie. It's endlessly quotable.

I never post at X or Bluesky, and I have stopped commenting on others’ posts; I post only travel stuff and comments on FB; and I have no presence on anything else. Even so, once they start pairing up our posts here with our PII—and it wouldn’t take much for them to do so, if they haven’t already—then you, I, and a lot of others here are done for.
