  1. I’ve found the board to be much better with him on ignore. He’s just looking for a reaction. No need to continue to feed his weird online fetish.

  3. I know it's important to you to get the point that is a mental illness problem and keep the issue focused away from guns. I like guns too, so I get it. But when an issue results in loss of life and ills against society due to the terror aspect of a mass shooting, if you're side is so confident on the issue, why isn't your side able to put up some solution that could expand programs for mental illness? Pretty sure i've never heard a dem say they won't spend on social programs to help with mental illness, can't imagine they are the problem in finding a solution. Granted I can see dems saying programs on mental illness alone isn't enough, but I still don't see them refusing to fund something like that. So if you believe this in your heart, start holding your party accountable to do something about it.

  5. Tony Clark is too soft. He just doesn't care enough. You can tell by his body language. He has the talent, but never does anything when it counts. We would lose all of April and May with him in charge. now, we can hope for a full season.

  6. It tracks that trans people, who are going to be more likely to have mental illness just given the nature of gender dysphoria, may be more likely to perpetrate that kind of thing. Now, you can either make their lives easier to alleviate the mental illness, or you can ostracize and marginalize them and make their issues spiral.

  7. Epstein was first busted in like 2008. It didn't start then. Over the years, so many knew, and did nothing. It's bigger than just the horrors of child abuse, but that part should enough to unite every mother and father who has a son or daughter (I'm sure both were abused by these sick ****s) no matter of political leanings.

  8. This country is a ****ed up mess right now, but let's not lose the football. A good way to start fixing it is the 800 pound gorilla in the room - The Epstein files. There was a poll asking who should be the first two people arrested. Easy; the first, the last and ever other sick **** in between. Nothing else is acceptable. They are the big club.

  9. I like riding my bike in the summer. We have a rails to trails that goes through our neighborhood and it goes to a couple of different parks. I’ve been riding since we moved into this house. In fact, we moved in late Sept about 10 or something years ago, and I made it a point to get a bike next spring. I’ve been tracking distance and times beginning in 2021. I’ll go 10 to 20 miles, done a couple of 30s. I don’t know why I track it, but I do. Over 1,000 miles is the goal this year.

  10. OK... so go easy on me here... I'm a rookie fan in spring training, never done this before. And my digital camera is a little crappy so, did the best that I could. Plus, we're behind a chain link fence when they're practicing in the distance so... no closeups here. I did crop some photos to sort of "zoom" in, although that might affect the quality a bit (makes it blurry?) Well... since I fibbed already... when the guys were walking to the field they pass right by so all the autograph-seekers are lined up (I don't really pursue autographs so I was just happy to take some photos.... I was on the minor league/ catchers & pitchers side today, tomorrow or Wednesday I'll go back and take some photos from the Major Leaguers side... One last thing, I don't know many of the minor leaguers by facial recognition, and not all of the Detroit Tigers... But just wanted to share some spring training photos... Best I could do... I'll try to describe what little I can. Also... met a "veteran" spring training dude, Norm, who was as nice as anybody I've ever met... he talked me through some of the "do this, not that" of spring training. Talked me into a Thursday BBQ with the team as well (run by the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce). Free food & beer for the minor leaguers so they'll mostly show up, a few of the MLB guys too. I'm not a big autograph guy so I'll be happy to just sit and shoot the breeze with whoever is there.

  13. My softball story....I was in a league where just over the left field fence (standard 5 foot chainlink fence) was a playground for little kids. Big guys would regularly hit homeruns right onto the playground where the kids were playing. I wrote to the city telling them about the danger but heard nothing back. After the next ball landed in the playground I wrote them again. I was seriously scared for the kids and must have written 5 or 6 times through out the summer. In my last message to them I noted that I was keeping a copies of all my messages to them and when a kid is ultimately hit and killed, I will give it to whatever lawyer is representing the kid's parents. The fence was extended 20 feet higher within the week.

  15. Nixon also lost his race for Governor in California. prompting the following quote saying, "you won't have Nixon to kick around anymore because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference."[8] During the 1960 race when Eisenhower was asked about Nixon's qualifications he reportedly said something like give me a few minutes I'll think of something.

  16. the Presidential nominating system has been like the NBA draft, every reform they have made has produced worse outcomes. Of course, the NBA still has a chance to make changes in a positive direction if they figure them out because they don't also have to cope with Citizen's United.

  17. A couple of books on these subjects; Reminiscences of a Stock Operator - Amazon <- this one is about Jesse Livermore - great read. Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt - Amazon <- this on on high frequency trading by Wall Street written by Michael Lewis of Moneyball - another great read. The most expensive piece of real estate in NY is the server closest to the exchange. Don't remember the year, but they spent millions of dollars to run a fiber optic cable from The City (London version of Wall Street) to the NYSE to save like 6 milliseconds on trades.

  19. I believe this is ground zero to understanding the state of the world today. For eighty years, the United States had the world by the tail. We may have gone hard in places we shouldn't have, but for the most part we used soft power and economic might to bring the rest of the first world, and most of the attendant satellites, into our orbit. They went along with our agenda willingly, for the most part, because they entrusted us to ensure and protect the peace and prosperity of their countries. That's no good for Trump. He doesn't want the world by the tail, leading it by admiration and respect. He wants the world by the balls, leading it by fear and pain. He doesn't want other countries to regard themselves as willing partners, because willing partners want to have a say in how things operate. He wants other countries to be nothing more than toadies and supplicants, doing only what they're told while begging for our mercy and/or our discretionary largesse. Trump wants all others to feel the full weight of his power always and forever, because instilling fear and pain in others to make them do things they don't want to do is the yardstick by which he measures his self-worth. He gets his jollies by shaking down those who agree to be shaken down, ruthlessly punishing those who dare to delay being shaken down, and obliterating those who refuse to be shaken down at all. Not even the best gangsters brutally debase their most loyal subjects for kicks, as a matter of course, in this manner. It's the worst gangsters who do so, repeatedly and gleefully. The best gangsters meet their end with a peaceful death enveloped in the bosom of their families. The worst gangsters meet their bloody end in alleys, barber chairs, and the back seats of limos. This is what we're facing, and god help the world once this guy achieves his apparent goal of a North Korea-style hermit terrorstate supported by an amoral military, militias, secret police, and civilian snitches.

  22. Republicans seem to think Dems will protect their own the way they do. Dems threw their incumbent under the bus because he was old. They forced Franken out over a picture. They aren’t going to back Clinton who hasn’t been president in 25 years. Obama is the new leader of the party.

  23. Why wasn't something done over the last 20+ years? Look at the names, the pictures, the emails. Over 300 names, and that's probably not all of them. These people all run in the same circles, they know what the hell was going on, and did nothing. Why? Because they are either paid off or blackmailed to STFU and not do anything. They are all protecting each other. But it's easier to just blame Trump because he's the cause of everything bad in the world. Epstein was first arrested in 2008ish, Maxwell was at Chelsea Clinton's wedding in 2010. Trump had a TV show that year. Epstein was busted again in 2019 so there's a good 8 or 9 more years of Epstein terror to who knows how many victims, and NOBODY did anything. But it's all Trumps fault. Pull the other one.

  29. Jesse Jackson passed away. Let's not do politics here, but he was notable. I just got back from Chicago and was in Millenium Park thinking about the night Obama won and they showed Jackson with tears in his eyes. I was thinking of that literally yesterday morning. I'm not making it political, just talking about the coincidence of things like that.

  30. To me, when you refuse to act civilly, you forfeit the right to be treated civilly. On an individual level, there may always be an ethical imperative to "turn the other cheek" but for society as whole, the first obligation is to re-establish justice, equity and protection of the powerless, and if accomplishing that requires that those who turned their back on civility be treated uncivilly, so be it. The 'ends' doesn't justify the 'means' is wonderful social theory, but at a societal level it only works when there is a consensus to stay in the system. By definition, the approved rules of constraint in the system may be powerless on those that have taken themselves out of it, while the moral imperative to stop them remains.

  34. i watched an insurance industry presentation on brain injuries probably 8 years ago. they brought up cte, but more in the context of how the nfl and the movie on cte had entered the public realm, and now minor concussions with no long term effects were still being regarded by juries as multi-million dollar claims. after all, they saw this movie and now they know all about brain injuries... anyway, at the time it was thought of as "you have a series of concussions over time and it could lead to brain damage. or not. plenty of nfl players are just fine. some arent." but we have to price the risk (we used to insure riddell and the ncaa...we used to make a lot less money...) , and now the public has made any kind of concussion quite expensive. ergo why it costs so much to insure your little league baseball team, or pop warner football team, or kids' hockey team. or your car, but that's another story and i'll get off my soapbox now.

  35. The nfl will give lip service to a lot of things. in the end, they care about money. if player safety were really their goal, they wouldnt be asking for an 18th game. i dont blame the owners, its a sport played for money and a multi-billion dollar business. at the end of the day, its a violent game and if they limit the violence too much, people will stop watching. not many people are watching a flag football game between the lions and jets. the industry has a lot of questions about "cte" and whether it is actually anything special or just run of the mill brain damage. also, players in the past certainly have arguments against the nfl for such injuries, but now? you know the risks. you can go to another profession of you dont want to play the game.

  38. If you stick with it, you’ll definitely end up upgrading. There are plenty of “pro shops” that will let you try paddles. Handles can vary in circumference and shape and that was a big thing for me. I prefer the 4.125 handle and the elongated hitting surface. YMMV, however, once you try a higher end paddle, you’ll never go back to a beginner paddle.

  40. There were still 3-5 games last year that were losses you could blame on the offense. In particular on the offensive line and/or play calling. The opener against Green Bay, Kansas City, Philly, the Steelers, and final Vikings game were all ones where this offensive line hurt us. Get better offensive line play and win just one of those games and we're in the playoffs. I think there are upgrades needed on our defense. Lord knows I've spent a countless amount of time begging for a pass rusher opposite Aiden, as a lot of fans have. But I think there more pressing need right now is the offensive line. It was the identity of this team for 3 years and they need to get back to dominating the line of scrimmage, running it down team's throats to wear them out, and controlling the clock. I'm spending my free agent dollars on the offensive line before I do anything defensive. Though I still agree there are some moves to be made on defense.

  44. Hopefully Peter Magyar beats that fat fascist **** Orban. I am part Hungarian-American, so I've taken an interest in Hungarian politics during Orban's reign of terror. Peter Magyar isn't a left or left-leaning politician by any means. He's not the type of person I would normally vote for. But he does seem to be pro-democracy and anti-corruption. Even though he's a former member of Orban's Fidez party, I'd still take him and trust him over Orban's brand of fascism were I a Hungarian voter. The polling has gone back and forth. It seems Magyar is ahead in some polling. Not sure what polling is valid and what is just Orban and Fidez propaganda.
