these signings are likely the best the lions can do while being good stewards of their salary cap. philosophically, SHOULD they be borrowing from the future to pay for a difference maker right now? some would argue this is their window: goff is still good, amon-ra, sewell, gibbs are in their prime. the lions should go for it right now. as much as we like goff, he's not a transcendant qb who can lead a team to wins despite a weak supporting cast so strike now when you have great players. you cant expect 3 more drafts like holmes' first 3, especially when picking much lower. you have a great base, supplement it and win now. the lions dont seem to want to do that, which is ok. its a different way to build a team and is more likely to build long term success, imo. i dont think you win with a bunch of flashy free agent signings, even if one or two once in a while can make a big difference. was linderbaum that player? i doubt it. hendricksen? too old probably. trade for crosby? probably not worth it. but these signings they are making are solid "guys." they add depth to the core. they dont move the needle. maybe they get lucky and one goes on a huge run, but larry borom and dj wonnum are available for cheap for a reason. to expect great things is to be unrealistic. the great will come from their core if it is going to come. and hopefully from this draft.2 points

an undersized late round project pick who played zero snaps as a rookie? color me unimpressed if the lions go into the season with that as their starting defensive end. or their backup. the lions are a super bowl contender. be serious and go get a proven nfl player. clowney, epenessa, and jordan are still out there. be a gm, brad holmes. not the most clever guy in the room.2 points

Isn’t 6 mil for Wonnum the max he could get? Meaning his base salary is likely significantly less. Until I see the actual numbers I won’t pass judgment on whether the Wonnum signing restricts Holmes from getting another, better DE.1 point

I certainly take it for granted and especially when going to other parts of the country. My only problem is it's hard to find one that serves alcohol. La Pita here does. There's a Sahara down near Comerica park that has a nice bar. To me that knocks it down from a nice dinner to just casual food. I do have a friend that has a place, I won't say which, who will give me a Corona while I wait for my carry out. He doesn't sell it. He trades food with a bar down the street and they give him a case of beer. A lot of it is religious as a lot of Muslims will not/cannot go to a place that serves alcohol. Next time you come try Malek Al Kabob.1 point

Bultman tweeted that Copp is taking part in normal line rushes today (I am guessing without a non-contact jersey) so it is looking good for him at least. McLellan said that Copp is itching to get back1 point

From people who are searching for any possible way to put him down and therefore because he had one injury they are going to use that to the fullest... Or at least that's what it looks like to me.1 point

Wonnum reminds me of when the Tigers acquire an injury prone SP that is coming off a year where he had a 4.65 ERA. But had a 3.25 ERA three years earlier.1 point

Anthony Edwards will miss 1-2 weeks due to a knee injury. Minnesota is currently tied for 21st with two other teams. They are 3 games back from Toronto and Phoenix for 20th.1 point

Hole at TE? I mean they have one of the top TEs plus multiple backups. How many TEs do you want? They have two starting DTs. McCreary is the starting nickel. He graded out better than Robertson. Arnold and Reed are your starters. Rock is your depth at both CB and Safety along with Izien. People need to relax.1 point

I have two friends from Venezuela and Ven winning the WBC meant a lot more to them than any US fan if the US won. I was rooting for the US and was hoping for a great game. I got half of what I wanted and ultimately I am happy for my friends. As a baseball fan and a fan of sports stories, I was very satisfied.1 point

I think there’s at a least half a chance that Trump invites the US team and claims they are the real champions. I wonder which of them would show up?1 point

I just saw RJ Petit is out indefinitely with an elbow injury (UCL Sprain). This means the Rockies will stash him on the IL, and won't be coming back to the Tigers out of spring. Maybe later this season or in the offseason...1 point

Kinda feel bad for Jung to be playing well this spring and still having basically no shot to make the team unless there’s a late injury. That said, it’s not like he hasn’t had his chances to make and stick with the team before. So he’s gonna have to tear it up in Toledo and wait for his shot. It’s nice to have some depth.1 point

I don’t think they’ll pay him $6MM. We’ll see when the details come out, but Pelissori was reporting directly from the agent. “Up to $6MM” may well mean “$2MM with a $1MM bonus for every five sacks up to 20 sacks” It won’t be that, but you get the idea. His “$6MM” and AQM’s $6MM are very unlikely to be created equal.1 point

I had dinner with a friend the other day down in Dearborn at Sheeba Yemini restaurant. We went to the newer restaurant in West Dearborn, not the original one in East Dearborn. I know that Middle Eastern food and all the variants that come with it from Egyptian, Iraqi, Lebanese, Palestinian, Syrian, Yemini, etc. aren't uniquely Detroit. I know by now lots of other metro areas in the country have restaurants that serve Middle Eastern food of some variety, from one of the aforementioned countries. But no other region has it as good as we do. We have such a plethora of amazing Middle Eastern restaurants from so many different countries and regions in that part of the world. Throw a rock across the street in Metro Detroit and chances are you'll hit a building or strip mall that has a restaurant serving faatoosh, falafal, ghallaba, shwarma, tabooli, and so much more. We really are spoiled around here with some amazing ethnic cuisines from around the world. In the case of Middle Eastern food, I barely even think of it as that anymore. I think of all of those foods as just American and Detroit staples. I want a chicken or lamb shawarma for lunch as much and as often as I'd want a burger or a coney dog.1 point

No one is as deep as the US. But as we have seen, any team can beat any other team on any given day. Even the Rockies beat the Dodgers twice last year.1 point

I don't think Trump has dementia. His main problem is extreme narcissism. His second problem is lack of intellect. He is probably getting a little senile as he ages and his baseline was pretty low from the start.1 point

Of course his advisors are not going to step in and correct his use of the wrong word. For God’s sake, he’s buying them ****ty Florsheim shoes that are two sizes too big and making them wear it …. because he likes them. And they wear them. The stupidity and the cowardice is mind blowing. But here we are.1 point
