  3. Others have said it, but Wonnum is the Davenport/Paschal replacement, not the AQM/third-down pass rush specialist replacement. AQM ended up being DE2 by default last year since Davenport missed most of the season. He played over 40% of defensive snaps, Davenport played only 25%. in 2024 Paschal played 50% of snaps with AQM getting less than 25% of snaps. Last year, AQM had to be on the field for a lot of situations he was absolutely not capable of handling. Detroit is looking to Wonnum to be on the field opposite Hutch for probably two-thirds of defensive snaps. I don't think signing Wonnum and not signing AQM means the team doesn't value a 3rd down pass rush specialist, it means they need someone to play 1st and 2nd down now that they've moved on from Paschal and Davenport.

  7. i thought the defense was much better when you had at least one "pure pass rush" guy they could put in on third and long downs. like houston before he got hurt. i get the need to want to crush the pocket and set the edge, but getting to the qb in some obvious passing downs can turn a game around.

  13. I can confirm Valenti said this, I cannot confirm if he is full of **** or not. I was listening yesterday when Valenti said it. He seemed to allude that he spoke to one of the Lions reporters/beat writers (my guess is Dave Birkett, maybe Justin Rogers) and that person told him that there are difference between Campbell and Holmes this offseason on roster construction and some of the moves that have been made thus far.

  15. Everybody knows he is unproven and might disappoint. Not all prospects are the same though. He's not Ryan Kreidler nor Pittaro. Pittaro was never a top prospect. He had a .696 minor league OPS. Sparky Anderson just liked him and decided to pump him up. I think it might have had something to do with Anderson noticing that the championship team was not as motivated as they should have been in Spring training and he wanted to shake things up. Surely he knew that Pittaro was not the next big star.

  21. Collapsed season. This was seriously painful news to hear this morning. If he's back for Round 1 you can probably expect him to be on a minutes restriction and have some conditioning issues. Only possible good thing I can imagine coming out of this is we slip to 2nd place, manage to get through Round 1 while Cade is working himself back into shape, and get to face the Knicks in Round 2 with a healthy Cade (and Stew) for our revenge. That's the best "Glass Half Full" I can come up with. As for the rest of the season, I'm guessing JB starts Jenkins in Cade's place. I'd actually consider just letting Ausar initiate the offense. We've seen him be the lead initiator before when Cade was out and it worked decently well. Ausar guards the other teams PG every night anyway, so less cross matching is needed. You can put another spacer in there to help spread the court for Ausar + Duren pick and rolls. I'd slide Green into the starting lineup at the SF. Javonte is our only legitimate 3-and-D player, shooting 37% from beyond the arc this year and whopping 50% from the corners.

  23. Thanks to AI Scene: Inside a high-tech corner office (The Brain's Lab), featuring a large portrait of Trump on the wall. The Brain (resembling Benjamin Netanyahu) is pacing on top of a desk, while Pinky (resembling Donald Trump) is spinning in a leather office chair. Brain (Netanyahu): "Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Pinky?" Pinky (Trump): "I think so, Bibi—I mean, Brain! But why would we want to make the world smart again? That sounds very low-energy. Sad." Brain (Netanyahu): Sighs, rubbing his forehead. "We are not making it smart, Pinky. We are taking over the world so that I can finally get a quiet weekend in Caesarea. Now, the plan is simple: We use your massive, luxurious media megaphone to distract everyone, while I negotiate a ‘beautiful’ restructuring of the global order." Pinky (Trump): "Wow. That sounds like a great plan. Tremendous plan. I’ll tweet it. I’ll tweet it so hard. I know all the best words for taking over the world. People love me in the world." Brain (Netanyahu): "Just... try not to mention the secret submarine deal on social media, okay? Just focus on the 'art of the deal.'" Pinky (Trump): "Whatever you say, Brain. Hey, do you think we can make the world’s map look bigger? I like big maps. We can put our names on them. Gold letters." Brain (Netanyahu): Looking directly at the audience with an exasperated expression. Brain (Netanyahu): "Come, Pinky. We have a midnight briefing with the Knesset to attend. And Pinky?" Pinky (Trump): "Yes, Brain?" Brain (Netanyahu): "NARF!"

  25. I mentioned this elsewhere. Nuremburg's first hour is a B, the second hour is a solid B+/A-. Some good stuff in there. Historical accuracy is typical Hollywood but not nearly as bad as other recent stuff like Napoleon.

  26. Kevin McGonigle is not on the Tigers' Spring Breakout Game roster, and if you're itching to see him make the team out of camp, that's a good sign.

  27. To clarify, those daily games you are seeing available on peacock effectively replace the old “mlb.tv free game of the day” where one out of market game can be watched if you are not already an mlb.tv subscriber. These are just simulcasts of the local broadcasts that the in-market folks get. Peacock does have some exclusive games, but that is mostly just Sunday night baseball (just like espn used to have). Many/most of these will also be on NBC. These Sunday night national games are the games Jason is doing. The other exclusive is the Sunday early game that starts up midseason (like peacock and Roku had previously). Basically, NBC/peacock took over Sunday night from espn. And the tigers own network takes over for Fanduel.

  28. He's that level of prospect, but that of course does not mean he's going to be as good as them. I have no scouting skills, but the Tigers have never had a prospect as universally praised as McGonigle in over 40 years and so far he's got the stats to back it up. He seems to get compared to Utley frequently.

  31. I like that idea instead of the notion that the Tigers simply can’t afford to do TV broadcasts. Also, it means that we’ll see Dan Dickerson on TV a lot during March Madness which will be a “good thing” as Martha Stewart would say…

  33. I like reading this kind of thing when it involves my team. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2026/03/19/detroit-tigers-austin-slater-opt-out-opening-day-roster/89164693007/ Slater, a .248 hitter in his 699-game MLB career, has redefined his approach at the plate since signing with the Tigers, thanks to the player plan given to him by the Tigers ahead of spring training. The results in camp? More walks and fewer strikeouts with damage, all while continuing to showcase his understanding of the strike zone. He remains focused on swing decisions. "My swing felt really good last year, and I got away from being really stubborn in my approach and my plan," Slater said. "Pitch selection was not maybe as great as it's been in years past. It used to be a strength of mine, and I'm trying to hone that back in."

  41. I won't say he is already their best hitter until he is able to hit in real MLB games, but he is probably their best hitting prospect since the 80s.

  42. The talent level is probably sufficient for expansion. The more pressing issue is availability. You can have the best restaurant in town, but if a third of the menu is unavailable every time you walk in, it stops mattering how good the kitchen is. That's the NBA's real problem right now.
