  1. That guy made one of the greatest plays I have ever watched. I was sitting along the 3rd base line down around 3rd. The batter hit a ball right in front of the plate and it bounced so high it looked like a pop-up. Right down the line toward 3rd. I watched Aurelio. He turned his back to the plate looking over his right shoulder, the ball landed right beside him, which he short-hopped, turned and fired a bullet to 1st base. Out. One of the most incredible plays I have ever seen. It gets even better. We were heading home going back to Ohio and sitting at a streetlight somewhere by the park. Hot, windows down. He pulls up right beside us. I'm the passenger. I look over there and tell my buddy - hey, look - that's Aurelio. Yep, sure was. I yelled - hey, great play on that high hopper - never seen anything like that. Thanks, glad you guys had a good time. Light changed, he was off. Off the charts cool.

  2. And Vance is in Hungary, stumping for Orban, and wagging his finger at Europe … telling them the oil shortage is their problem because they stopped buying Russian oil. **** all of them. Let’s hope Orban crashes & burns in his election this weekend. And then hope we can do the same here this November

  4. Yes, and also, a whole bunch of people welcome it because they believe this is fulfilling their scripture in order to bring their savior back to earth, and they continue to support Trump for that specific reason.

  5. What a world we live in where Marjorie Taylor Greene and Alex Jones are calling for the 25th Amendment to be used on this man. Both of them are still terrible people, Jones especially. But even a broken clock is right twice a day. If only either of the two would have called for this after the attempted coup on January 6th or any of the other crazy and lawless moments we've gone through with Trump.

  10. I guess I’ve grown up because I resisted the urge to say “yabba dabba do”. I was once at the Meijer in Allen Park (on The Hill) and I was in the produce section and some lady yelled out for her son "MARCO !" so I answered "POLLO" and several people laughed, but the woman looked at me like I tried to kill her dog or something. I don't think it was too inapprioate. It was funny.

  11. I was never a Kiss fan, I was more into R&B growing up, and I didn't know much about Ace until after he died. But then I saw clips of interviews with him and he had the best laugh. It seemed like he was having a lot of fun with it all and I get the impression that he left because Gene and Paul were taking everything way too seriously. That Tom Snyder interview is an absolute riot. How can you not like a guy when he's having such a good time like that?

  12. In recent years whenever we get to this time of year I'll select a year or a Tiger theme for a series of easy feature stories that I include as part of my sports coverage for our twice-a-week (mostly prep coverage) publication's sports section. Over the years I've done features on the 1968 and 1984 Tigers. I also did Mark Fidrych's 1976 season and the 1957 Lions. This year I'm selecting the 2006 Detroit Tigers. It's pretty easy for me because I still remember a lot about that season and I recorded probably 50 regular season games off the radio and another 30 off the television. And based on the names I see still here, I know a lot of you remember that year as well. I WISH we still had access to the old Motownsports site game threads. That would be awesome. But I was wondering what memories do you remember from 2006, especially the regular season. I think we all remember "gum time." I do, although I do need to gather what specific incident started it again. What games, what plays and just what cool memories do you remember about the season that we all talked about, but maybe some of us (mainly me) forgot. My stories roughly follow the actual date of the season with the date in our publication, especially during the summer. This time of year I typically fall behind fast due to the crazy amount of prep sports happening this time of year. I just don't have the extra space for these stories frequently. And when I do, it's limited. But I always catch up by the end of June and remain pretty much on target in July and then get ahead of pace in August realizing when fall sports happens again, I'm going to have limited space again. These stories are probably the ones I hear the most comments about. As people know, most newspaper readers are older, so our subscription base enjoys them. I was thinking about doing the 1945 Tigers, but figuring it's been 20 years since 2006, it made this an easy decision. Next year I'll probably do 1987. That will be a lot of fun as well. Don't hesitate to add anything. But, really, I'm looking for the regular season right now. I've already been listening to some of those old 2006 radio broadcasts. Oddly, the last two I listed to were losses.

  14. The 25th and impeachment/removal will never happen. Never. You need Republicans for that. The only good Republican is a retired Republican. Gut it out or death. That’s our option. Nobody is going to rescue us. Not podcasts and not the media. The only hope is some wipeout in the elections that presents supermajorities that could lead to proper impeachments. Remove Trump. Remove Vance. Remove Hegsetth. Install the new speaker.

  15. I remember being young! I just looked back at my blog where there a lot of memories. I have no idea how I had the time and energy to do all that. I could not do that now! I should go back to it later to see what I was thinkking about during the season - especially at the beginning when most of us had no idea how good they were,

  19. It's doing these stories that makes me realize what a treasure our game threads are here on the site and on the past site. It would be so cool before writing an update to just come here and read the 2006 game thread. Or while I listened to a game, open that day's game thread and follow the posts with the game as close as I possibly can. That would be fun.

  20. So, JD Vance is out of the country. You know Peter Thiel would love to take over the government.

  21. Agreed with all of this. I have offensive line prospects that I prefer over Proctor, but who am I. I like Blake Miller, Monroe Freeling, and Caleb Lomu as much or more than Proctor. Miller and Freeling both project as true tackles in the NFL, whereas Proctor is a tackle/guard combo. I also get Aaon Gibson flashbacks with Proctor. I know it's not fair or right to compare a guy to someone who played 25 years ago in a different regime. But as you said, the weight is going to be a factor throughout his career. The last time a Lions regime took a gamble on a jumbo offensive lineman it failed miserably with Gibson.

  26. yeah - Hinch just doesn't like playing shorter term trends very much, he believes in the strength of longer samples. That's always a debatable question. I don't think it's deniable that some players do sometimes hit a higher (or lower) level for week or a month when their past average performance really isn't the best predictor. But the problem always is how to know exactly when one of those streaks starts or ends. One of the reasons baseball managers who can make a difference are rare. Baseball is maybe the most measured/measurable and statistically catalogued sports, but you always run into the fundamental limit on the assumption that the guy you measured Monday is really the same guy on Tuesday. Some players are very consistent, some aren't, a guy may not have slept well, he may be worried about his relationship, he may be coming down with a bug or have a slight physical deficit. There are a million big and small things working against the assumption that the player is a constant, while the player himself is doing everything he can to be a constant. As long as real people are playing the game that tension will always be there. BTW Tork has reached in 7 of his last 12 PA in the last 3 games - mostly on the strength of 5 walks, so he's coming around a bit at least on plate discipline.

  32. No, they’re 2 out (effectively 3 due to losing the tiebreaker) with 5 to go. If they go 4-1 and Ottawa goes 2-2-1 the Wings are in unless a couple of Metro teams get hot. But no reason to think the Wings will go 4-1. More likely to go 2-3 or 1-4. If the Wings lose in regulation tomorrow and Thursday and Ottawa wins tomorrow and Thursday, the Wings will be officially eliminated.

  35. I imagine Harris and Robinson will get some rest in the final 4 games. Duren might sit out one or two of them as well. No reason to rest Daniss, Holland, Huerter or anyone else. I doubt Ausar will rest since he's trying to qualify for offseason awards. I highly doubt we'll see Cade, but I wonder about Stew. Seems like it might be good to get him a game or two to get back in the groove. Of course, playing Stew and/or Duren in the Charlotte matchup seems like a bad idea after what happened last time. We don't need any suspensions.
