  1. Am back home in Vancouver. I tell ya, even before this loss, Mariners fans have a serious case of expecting impending doom, given the team’s history of failures notably in the 116-win year. They were so excited today, no trash talking at all (except for one guy who told me to “go s*ck Eminem’s c*ck" and whose appalled friends immediately shushed him), and after the final out many just sat there in stunned silence and sadness, they weren’t angry or anything. I was so freakin’ pumped I absolutely flew the 150 miles on the highway between T-Mobile Park and my home. Soundtrack for part of it was listening to the final innings of Dan & Dan’s radio broadcast archived at mlb.com. Now I’m still antsy, might grab my headlamp and go for a jog. Go get ‘em, Tigers!

  2. A few of you have mentioned the absence of @Jim Cowan who was also Charles Liston on the old board and wondered what he was doing and if he was OK and I reached out to him through email and he said he’s doing just fine but that he finds his general interest in being a part of a message board on a daily basis to have waned and that it only has its greatest value as an all consuming passion which has for the time being ebbed. He said that he’s excited about McGonigle and the starting pitching and sent his best to a number of you. Since it’s a personal message, I don’t feel comfortable relaying too many of the details, but my own concern was that something healthwise had happened to him - we are both 74 so that can be an issue - and it hasn’t. Anyway, that’s the scoop.

  3. It aged fine. I am not embarrassed at all by my middle eastern neighbors. They are fine people. In fact I am worried about them because assholes like you and your president may now make life difficult for them. They are a few days away from celebrating the end of Ramadan and I can't wait to smell and taste the wonderful goodies they will share with us. I missed them in my fitness classes at the gym. You on the other hand are a certified bigot and racist. I'm quoting this post to confirm it for everybody who has you on block/ignore to see for themselves. You should just leave here. You provide zero value to this MB. It would be better off without you. Nobody will miss you. And while you are at it it would be best if you never visited Dearborn or Michigan again. We don't really require your presence.

  4. I try to stay far away from political discussions, but apparently this was a Charlie Kirk quote: "I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights" - Charlie Kirk, 2023 If that was his stance, then his own death was worth it to himself. As I see it, the killing of my friend Brian (estrepe1) was not worth it. I’d rather have very tight gun control and have my friend back, among many many others.

  5. Great tweet today that I read. Ted Turner spent 20 years making it easy for a kid in Montana could watch the Braves. MLB has spent 20 years making it harder for a kid in Atlanta to watch the Braves.

  7. I had few run-ins with Mickey Lolich over the years... I grew up in the Rochester/Lake Orion area, so I remember his donut shops in both downtown Rochester and later in Lake Orion, which was right by my childhood church. One time when I was little, I was having dinner with my parents in Lake Orion at a restaurant called The Orion House and Mickey was there with his family. He got up and left his table, so my younger self followed after him hoping for an autograph. Not knowing any better, I followed him into the bathroom but quickly retreated back to my table once I realized what I had done. Mickey on his way back to his table, stopped by and signed an autograph for me (I still have it), and thanked me for allowing him some privacy. I was young, but still felt embarrassed... My parents still razz me about that to this day. When my older sister was in High School, she did a project for school about Mickey and was able to interview him at his donut shop. He didn't have to do that, but was happy to help her out. I remember listening to the tape she had with his interview over and over. Most recently, Mickey shared a common wall with my mother-in-law at an assisted living facility... My MIL moved from there in early 2025 and passed away a few months later at another facilty, but for about a year (2024) she lived just on the other side of the wall from someone she cheered on during the 68 World Series and for years after. Unfortunately for her (and probably fortunate for him 🙂), she wasn't with it enough to probably realize he was there. My wife ran into him on an occasion or two, and often saw his wife there visiting him. Lots of fun memories of him. I wish his family well in these times...

  9. Top of the fifth I turn to my friends behind me and say “man… 3-0 feels like 10-0”. Once they started hitting the place went nuts. From the fifth inning on every Tiger half inning the crowd stood and cheered them on. Hearing the crowd chant “Javy! Javy!” Before his HR was incredible. He and Riley’s HR’s will be legendary. This seriously might have been the best game in Comerica Park since 2013. Their performance redeemed a lot from September. The fans deserved this. I don’t fault the fans for booing when they did. But they turned it around quick.

  12. About 6 weeks ago this guy started getting sick and throwing up. Then he stopped eating. A bunch of tests and few thousand dollars later we still don’t know what it was. Doctor thought it was addisons disease which would have meant forever treatment. It wasn’t. She knew of a parasite with similar symptoms so we treated it as if it were that. I swear at one point I figured we were going to lose him. I had already told myself that. He was on prednisone and going out every hour. One night he’d just go out there and lay down. I had to put his leash on to simulate a walk and that got him back in. He would only eat chicken if we made it and barely any at that. Then one day he finally ate a half serving of his food. A few days later he was back to his normal diet and routine and now he’s better than ever. I was feeling guilty over not taking him for enough walks. Sunday is our long run day but with the freep half marathon last week and our post race massages, which is worse for us physically than the race itself, we decided to walk our route today and take him with us. He loved it. Out in the woods and taking in all the smells. He’s been sleeping since. Dogs rule!

  17. Yesterday I posted about my job being defunded - I'm a therapist who helps homeless individuals in the Twin Cities, primarily St Paul. 2 days ago Trump signed an order that cut 2 b-b-billion in SAMHSA funded programs that support those with mental illness and substance use struggles. Somebody clearly let him know what a nightmare that would cause. Last night he reversed his decision and released the funding. I was just called and restart tomorrow. Also, a judge just stopped Trump from stopping all food stamp (SNAP) benefits to Minnesota. Today is a good day! 18. If Colt Keith's throwing arm does not get injured again, and the Tigers can stop playing musical chairs with his fielding position, I think Colt will be fine at third base. He is an above average athlete - his base running value on baseball savant is in the 89 percentile. He is not a Castellanos, Malloy, or Jung. Colt has played the majority of his innings as a professional at third base. Colt is already an above average MLB hitter (107 OPS+) and getting better. Contrary to what media talking heads are saying, the Tigers have every reason to provide opportunities for Colt to improve over the next 7 years on a team friendly contract - as opposed to paying Bregman $200 million and watch the 30 something decline over the next 7 years.

They know they would get destroyed with reason and fact. The intellectual wing left the Republican Party. All that’s left are kooks, trolls, and grifters.

  22. I really dislike the narrative that nobody can compete with the Dodgers. This year's World Series was arguably the most competivive World Series in history. It went seven games wiith one game going 18 innings and the 7th game also going into extra innings. During the regular season, four teams won more games than the Dodgers.

  23. I still say MLB is largely at fault for partnering with gambling organizations. Sure, the pitchers broke the rules and should be banned from the game and punished for whatever cimes they committed. But MLB is sending a very bad message with their hypocrisy. This kind of thing was inevitable.

  25. The people who are complaining are people who just disagree with the Tigers operating principle. You have options as a team ownership: If you have the income you buy everything you want (NYM, NYY, LAD); or you build for a target window and go all out to win in that window (Tigers for a while under M Ilitch) and accept that you are going to leverage your future for your present; or you try to create your highest sustainable level of performance and hope that gets you a shot at the brass rings often enough. Those are choices that orgs make. Harris is on the third track. Many, many, fans want the 2nd track. But they should save their angst or just root for a different team, because if that is what you want, Harris is guaranteed to disappoint you every time. He's not on that page, and it's not by accident or incompetence.

  30. religion? do you think they asked if they were practicing or not in the roundups in Germany or Armenia or Rwanda? The fascists don't care about what your religion is or whether you practice it, and the American Christian right wingers don't care what you are either if you are anything outside their own cult (theirs being one of the most excluding theologies out there). Religion is never more than a convenient construct to define what groups will be the targets for redirecting the anger of the masses in a failing society. It's all about picking a target that is easy to identify, the 'why' of that identification is purely incidental. All that matters is that there is an elite who needs to deflect from their own corruption and greed, an intellectually lazy or economically exhausted mass who'd rather not be reminded about their own failures, and a set of identifiable targets the elites can persuade the masses are the cause of their problems. Religion never matters in and of itself. It's nothing more than the sieve.

  32. I rarely post here, mostly hang out in the Tigers and Pistons forums. Had to vent a bit though. I'm a left leaning independent. I have little faith either main party truly has everyone's welfare in mind. I've been a mental health professional since 1989. I work primarily with the homeless population, which involves a lot of community collaboration. My last job was contracting with Hennepin County (Minneapolis) corrections, working with homeless adults on probation. Feds cut hundreds of millions to MN social services last summer, and my program was axed. I just got a new job working with homeless in St Paul. I literally started Monday. Yesterday Trump cut 2 billion in samhsa grants that fund mental health and addiction services. My clinic was informed this morning. I was told this afternoon my job is gone. There are several million households behind in mortgage or rent at least 3 months. The booming homeless population is likely to boom even more, and soon. There has been so much widespread fraud. I understand why this administration is skeptical and taking drastic measures. But this doesn't punish Walz. It punishes the poor. I'm accepting that I may no longer be able to work on the streets. I'll be fine. This just adds another barrier to stability to thousands of people

  36. Boras to Cohen: Steve, next Winter I look forward to discussing Tarik's free agency with you and the Mets. Obviously, it would not be appropriate to discuss any terms while he is under control of the Tigers, but he did mention that he loves coming to NY for award season, and getting bagels at his favorite store at 440 10th Avenue. That's 440 and 10, Steve. If you are interested, go to 440 and 10, Steve.

  38. I’ll be in this section 337, a few rows up from where this pic was taken. So pretty high up, but overall a nice enough seat. The Tigers’ dugout is on the 3rd base side. Paid US$225 for a single on StubHub, all-in after fees (exorbitant) and taxes. More than I’ve ever paid for a baseball ticket, but road playoff baseball is a rare chance.

  40. I don't get the criticism here. Not counting Dobnak (that was a pure salary dump to balance the trade), the Tigers have added five pitchers to the mix. When your depth is ravaged*, that's a good thing. I much prefer that to putting all your eggs in one basket. And we are criticizing them for not giving up enough? I'm trying to figure that one out.
