What Are You Listening To?

I guess I can take a stab at the top-ten list, though there's no way I can keep it to ten. these aren't even my favorite however-many songs, just my favorite song or two or three by I guess nine artists/bands.

so, in no order at all other than the first song:

there are even bands that I like more than some of these overall but whose songs I can't quite put on the list, like They Might Be Giants and Yes.

This song has been stuck in my head all day and I have not heard it in years and I HATE this song, but it's was in my brain for some reason today.  What causes this?  What triggered this?  Why would a song from 37 years ago, that I probably haven't heard in 35 years suddenly pop into my brain?

It has a good beat and I can dance to it. I'll give it a five.

I took my daughter to see AJR last night.  I know their songs and like them, but couldn't name them for the most part.  It's the go-to music in our house when we're all cleaning and the kids are fighting about what to listen to.  I walked away quite a fan.  Very impressive show.

I watch AEW (pro wrestling) and Jungle Boy uses this as his theme. Super catchy!

I really like those guys. Every song I've heard is super catchy. I've floated taking my daughter and/or son to see them, but neither of them took me up on it even though they like those songs too. Glad to hear they put on a good show. Maybe I'll push a little harder next time.

Are we still doing top ten songs? Here are my favorites at the moment

  • Theme from Dr. Pyser (live) - Ben Folds
  • So What - Miles Davis
  • Jesus Thinks You’re a Jerk - Frank Zappa
  • A Song for the Dead - Queens of the Stone Age
  • Know Your Enemy - Rage
  • Unchained - Van Halen
  • Get Up - James Brown
  • 6’1” - Liz Phair
  • Lost in the Crowd - Bassnectar
  • Nobody Speak - DJ Shadow
  • On My Own - Old Man Saxon
  • You Came to Party - Too Short
  • I Don’t Need a Reason - Dizzee Rascal

Not currently listening to them but I went to see some Geezer rock last night.

Loverboy opened. They were good. Lots of fun traveling down memory lane. The music was tight and Mike Reno danced around some notes but he hit the big one in Turn Me Loose. I suspect there was some electronic assistance but don't care because it's such a great part.

Styx took the stage second and smoked. I didn't expect much but they brought it. Very energetic and the harmonies were spot on. It was a great arena show and I'd see them again.

REO Speedwagon closed out and they were good but not great. The music was well played but it lacked energy. Granted I understand that Cronin is 70 and isn't going to be a spring chicken. However the dudes from Styx are close to the same age and they were all over the place.

Lots of people at the show of retirement age.....I'd say ¾ of them were visibly over 60. It was amusing to watch a woman, who had to be in her 70's, singing along at the top of her lungs with "Pour Some Sugar On Me" which was playing over the PA between bands.

I saw Styx perform about three years ago at the Ryman in Nashville for an "oldies" show. They can still bring it. Ricky Skaggs was on the same bill.

Don't discount the energy of the "retirement" gang. One of the local favorites here is a "horn group", shag band, Good Shot Judy. We caught them last year at a local winery. It was probably the venue's largest draw, mostly over 60. They had folks up and dancing from the start..

Last night I made a “if I am in a coma put headphones on me and play these songs” list. I wanted longer songs with a jam flavor to them.

Papa was a rolling stone

since I’ve been loving you (live version)

low spark of high heeled boys

mountain jam (live version)

in memory of Elizabeth Reed

no quarter (live version)

sugaree (Phil Lesh and friends from a festival in 2016)
